Japanese Sense-Roid Robot Is For Hugging Yourself (Video)

Somewhere in Japan, a mannequin torso is being hugged like crazy. All in the name of science and robotics, of course. Besides, hugging is nice. Just check the video after the jump.

AT&T HTC Status Facebook Phone Gets Official

Earlier today we showed you some photos of the US version of the HTC ChaCha Facebook phone which is headed to AT&T, the HTC Status, and now AT&T has officially announced the HTC Status Facebook Phone.

The HTC Status features a 2.6 inch touch screen display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, processing is provided by an 800MHz processor and there is also a five megapixel camera on the back with auto-focus and a VGA camera up front .

Razer Debuts Cool DeathAdder Transformers Gaming Mice

Nokia 700 (Zeta) Symbian Belle Smartphone Leaked

The guys over at GSM Arena have managed to get their hands on some photos of a yet to be announced Nokia Symbian smartphone, the Nokia 700 (Zeta), along with some specifications.

According to the report the Nokia 700 is running Symbian Belle, which is the next version of Symbian after Symbian Anna, and it features a 3.2 inch nHD AMOLED display, and a possible 1GHz processor.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Breaks UK Sales Record Selling 3.72 Million Copies

Activision and Treyach’s Call of Duty: Black Ops first person shooter has set a new record in the UK by selling over 3.72 million copies since its release.

Becoming the biggest selling game in UK games market history beating the previous holder  Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which held the record with 3,702,410 copies sold, Call of Duty: Black Ops cumulative UK sales up to June 25th stood at 3,722,411

DyzPlastic Heroes And Villans Android Collectibles Announced

We have already featureds the previous versions of the Android collectibles from the guys at DyzPlastics, and now they are releasing a new range of Android collectible mascots called Heroes and Villans.

There will be four different versions available, and they will debut at the 2011 Interntaional Comic-Con in San Diego, and will only be available in a limited number, with one design being made available each day from Wednesday the 20th of July at Comic-Con.

MSI Launches 14 Inch CX480 Laptop With nVidia GeForce GT 520M

Samsung Files ITC Complaint Against Apple

It looks like the battle between Samsung and Apple is heating up, last week we heard that Apple had filed a lawsuit against Samung in South Korea, we also heard rumors this week that Apple are pulling away their business from Samsung.

Samsung currently makes a number of components for Apple’s range of iOS devices, and now it would appear that Samung has filed a complaint against apple with the ITC (International Trade Commission).

Buffalo Unveils MiniStation Plus USB 3.0 1TB Storage

Buffalo has launched a new line of portable storage solutions this week in the form of the MiniStation Plus drive. The new Buffalo MiniStation Plus comes in two storage capacities either 500GB or 1TB which is housed in a shock proof chassis.

It is also USB powered so there is no need to carry a power cable, which is always a bonus, and will provide transfer speeds around 5Gbps when used with a USB 3.0 port.

Pic3D Film Turns 2D Displays Into 3D (Video)

Global Wave from Japan has developed a new film which is designed to be placed over the display of your smartphone, tablet, computer monitor or HDTV, the film can apparently transform any 2D display into a 3D display.

the company behind the film are producing different sized versions for different sized displays, including LCD monitors, the Apple iPad the iPhone and the iPod Touch, have a look at the video of it in action below, which explains how the film works.

Google’s Android Apps Reach 4.5 Billion Downloads

It looks like Google’s Android Market has hit another milestone, as the Guardian is reporting that the Android Market has now hit a massive 4.5 billion app downloads.

This compares to 1 billion downloads about a year ago, the first 1 billion downloads took Google 2 years to reach, and according to Ian Carrington, Google’s mobile advertising director the last 1 billion downloads happened within the last 60 days.

Portal 2 Map Contest Winners Announced

Valves Portal 2 Summer Mapping Initiative has come to an end this week with the winners being selected. Out of 280 entries in the map design contest the overall winner selected by the 13 judges was a map called “Patent Pending”. A 30-minute level of intermediate difficulty with four chambers set in the destroyed Aperture Science facilities.

Taking a close second place was “Infinifling” pitting the player directly into a chamber filled with redirections. With an honourable mention of the “Edifice” map design due to the results being so close.

Verizon Samung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G Goes Up For Pre-Order

Verizon Wireless have just announced that the new 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now available to pre order, and prices start at $529.99 for the 16GB model and $629.99 for the 32GB version, this is subkject two a new two year mobile broadband contract.

As a reminder the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 10.1 inch touchscreen WXGA display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, there is also a dual core 1GHz processor, Android Honeycomb and two cameras.

Google Launches Its First Google Takeout Service (video)

Google Takeout is a new service that has been created by a team of engineers at Google called the Data Liberation Front (DLF) and has been designed to assist you to move your data away from Google to another provider if you so wish.

Google doesn’t want you to move your data but Google thinks its important that you can if you would like, hence Google Takeout. The Takeout service enables you to be able to extract your data from Google's web services into open, easily-transferable file formats. Galaxy Tab 10.1 Running Ubuntu On Android, Becomes ‘Tabuntu’ (video)

A great demonstration of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Ubuntu on Android has been putt together to show whats possible on Android. Ubuntu has been loaded on to the Tab without replacing the Android OS and runs in the background, "chrooted" or like a virtual machine.

One of the problems with Android even though it is based on Linux you cant actually run any native Linux programs on Android. The new ’Tabuntu’ device as it has now been dubbed gets around this and will now allow you to run native Linux programs on your Android tablet without the need to first remove the Android OS. 2011 MacBook Air Coming Mid July?

We have been hearing rumors that Apple would be launching the new 2011 MacBook Air some time in July, and now according to the guys over at 9 to 5 Mac it looks like the date will be around the middle of July.

We are expecting Apple’s new 2011 MacBook Air range to feature the latest Intel Sandy Bridge processors and also Intel’s Thunderbolt technology, and they will probably ship with Mac OS X Lion pre installed.

iPhone 5 Concept Design

We have been hearing rumors over the past few months of what features will be included in the new iPhone 5, now designer Michal Bonikowski has put together some of the rumors into a concept design of what he thinks the iPhone 5 may look like.

As you can see from the photos below, this concept design features a larger wider touchscreen display, something that has been rumored for a while, and also instead of the glass back on the iPhone 4, this has been replaced with an aluminum back cover similar to the iPad 2.

Xtreamer Prodigy Updated With New 3D Streaming Feature

This week Xtreamer has rolled out new updates to its Prodigy media streamer in the form of a revamp which now enables the device to stream 3D over HDMI 1.4, which Xtreamer claims makes it the first full HD Media Player with 3D support below €300.

The Prodigy’s internal hardware has also received upgrades and is now equipped with a 750MHz processor capable of running Android 2.2 together with support for USB 3.0 connectivity. A new dual boot feature to take advantage of the new CPU and allow Android 2.2 to run is currently under development and is hope to be released later this year.

Wakemate iPhone App Updated With Bluetooth Sleep Monitoring Wristband (video)

Wakemate has this week launched a new update to its sleep monitoring application which now uses a Bluetooth Wristband to help monitor your sleep patterns even more accurately.

Initially Wakemate did have a few problems with earlier versions of its applications but new updates released by the company since April this year now seem to have corrected the initial issues.

Olympus PEN E-PM1, Another Leaked Photo

Olympus is set to launch some new cameras in its PEN range, one of those is the new Olympus PEN E-PM1 that we saw a photo  of recently, and now another one has appeared online which gives us a good look at the front of the camera.

The photo below shows the new Olympus E-PM1, and according to the guys over at 43 Rumors, it will feature the same new 12 megapixel sensor as the EP-3, which has apparently been developed in house by Olympus.

Triggertrap Releases Your Camera’s Shutter Any Way You Like

Triggertrap is a new innovative shutter release mechanism design looking to make the jump from concept to production on the Kickstarter website.

Triggertrap has been designed by Ziah Fogel & Haje Jan Kamps and can be trigger either by sound, by breaking a laser beam, time or any other method you can think of via a Aux port. The Triggertrap device is based on a Arduino and is an open-source hardware project for photographers and geeks alike. Once its made available the Triggertrap will be sold as either a kit or assembled depending on your skills.

Angry Birds Cufflinks

It has been quite a while since we featured some geeky cufflinks here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest ones will appeal to fans of one of the most popular mobile games, Angry Birds.

Whilst we suspect these Angry Birds cufflinks aren’t officially licensed by Rovio Mobile, they do look pretty cool and come in a range of different styles which include all the Angry Birds from the game as well as the green pigs.

AT&T’s HTC Status (ChaCha) Poses For The Camera

Last week we heard that the HTC ChaCha Facebook phone would be headed to AT&T as the HTC Status, and now the guys over at the BGR have got their hands on a photo of the new HTC Status.

The first photo below shows the original HTC ChaCha, and the second one shows the AT&T branded version which is now called the HTC Status, as you can see from the photos there really isn’t much difference between the two devices except from the AT&T logo.

World of Fourcraft : New York City Becomes Real Life Risk Game Board

A new digital/GPS checkin game has been created using FourSquare and Risk, (the board game that requires you to capture areas of land to conquer the world) style rules which have now combined to create a digital version of Risk using New York City as the gaming board.

The new World of Fourcraft game use a combination of Foursquare and Google Maps APIs to split New York City into gaming area which have to be captured by teams of players. You can decide which team you join by swearing allegiance to one of New York City's five boroughs. The game then calculates which faction owns which neighbourhood by using the number of gamers who have checked into it from each team within the zones.

HP Offering Early Adopters $50 Towards TouchPad Tablet

HP’s new webOS tablet will go on sale shortly, and it seems like the company is looking to existing webOS smartphone owners to boost sales of the new Touchpad as the company is offering early adopters $50 off the price of a new TouchPad tablet.

HP are offering a $50 mail in rebate in the US and Canada up until the 31st of July, and you will need to have proof that you own either a Palm pre, Pre Plus, Pixi Plus in order to qualify for the deal.

Amazon has launched a new app for Windows Phone 7, the app is called AmazonFresh and it is designed to let you order groceries from your Windows Phone 7 smartphone.

Art Lebedev’s Optimus Mini Six Keyboard Enters Production

An announcement by Art Lebedev Studio has now revealed that their new Optimus Mini Six keyboard has now entered production and will be available later this year to buy, with their full-sized Optimus Popularis keyboard arriving sometime in 2012.

The newly revealed Optimus Mini Six comprises of six keys which are equipped with full colour LCD displays using a 64 x 64 pixel screen. The new screens are smaller than previous versions and allow Art Lebedev to reduce the overall footprint of the Optimus Mini Six.

Silver-Inked Rollerball Pen Enables You To Draw Working Circuits

A new silver-inked pen has been developed by engineers at the University of Illinois which allows you to literally draw electrical circuits and interconnects on to paper, wood and other materials.

The pens ink is made from  a solution of real silver and once a circuit is draw the ink will then dry to create a conductive silver pathway similar to paper mounted wires.

The pathways retaining their conductivity, even if the paper or material use to write on is folded or bent, and have already been used to create flexible LED displays on paper, conductive text and three-dimensional radio-frequency antennas.

Yesterday Google launched its new its new social network, Google+, at the same time they released an Android app for Google+ and it looks like they are also working on an iOS version of the Google+ which should be available shortly.

In the meantime Google has created a web based app, written with HTML for iOS devices, and you can use it by going to plus.google.com, at the moment Google+ is in a limited trial so you will need to be part of the trial to use the web app.

Google Redesigns Its Homepage

Google has launched a new design of its homepage, if you go to Google.com you will now see a black bar at the top of the homepage, which features a variety of different links to a range of Google services.

Other changes to the Google homepage include a smaller logo, and some of the links have now been moved to the bottom of the page, and it looks like Google has a few more changes planned for Google.com over the coming months.

LeapFrog LeapPad Tablet For Kids Announced

LeapFrog has launched a new tablet designed specifically for kids, the LeapFrog LeapPad, and it features a 5 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 272 pixels, it also comes with 2GB of built in storage, and a rugged plastic case which is designed to be child friendly.

The LeapPad also features a built in camera, plus an accelerometer, a stylus and a microphone, and it comes with a range of educational games, and there are a total of 100 different applications and games available for the LeapPad.

Google’s New Swiffy Converts Flash Files Into HTML5

Google has unveiled a new service which allows you to convert Flash SWF files into HTML5 enabling you to reuse Flash content on devices that may not fully support Flash play back.

The new Google service called Swiffy, has been designed and developed by Google engineer Pieter Senster to convert Flash to HTML5 while he was working at Google’s mobile advertising team, researching ways to display Flash animations on devices that didn’t support Flash.

RIM Cancels 10 Inch BlackBerry Playbook, Working On New Superphone Instead?

We have been hearing rumors for a while that RIM would be releasing a 10 inch version of their BlackBerry Playbook tablet some time this year, and now according to N4BB RIM has decided to shelve their plans for a 10 inch PlayBook tablet.

The reason for this is that the company will be concentrating on producing a new QNX powered ‘Superphone’, which will either include a single core 1.2GHz processor or a dual core processor, plus a 900+ screen resolution on a 4.3 inch touchscreen display.

Facebook Confirms GeoHot Is Their Latest Employee

The other day he heard a rumor that George Hotz, or GeoHot, the hacker famous for jailbreaking the iPhone and also the PS3 had started working at Facebook, and now Facebook has confirmed to ZDNet that GeoHot is their latest employee.

Facebook wouldn’t give any details on exactly what George Hotz’s job at Facebook entails, although we did hear recently that Facebook are working on a new iPad app so maybe he has something to do with that.

Sony: “Virtual Reality” Coming Back

Intel’s Cloverview To Beat Windows 8 To Market

Intel doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to bringing mobile silicon to market in a timely fashion, but we’re hoping that with Nvidia’s Kal-El nipping at their heels, they will be starting to turn that tradition around. If Intel's Director of Product and Technology Media Relations Bill Kircos is to be believed, intel is all set to deliver a  "nice one-two chip-software punch", with the Atom Clover platform comprised of the Cloverview processor due out at the same time or even earlier than the turncoat Windows 8.

Google Launches Google+ Social Network

Despite Google’s previous attempts at entering the social network arena, chances are a far larger proportion of you reading this will tweet it or like it on Facebook than share it on Buzz. Google’s latest push is a bit different  though, aiming to tackle one of the problems social networking has been having since inception: you don’t want to share everything with everybody and you don’t want to constantly curate lists of friends to share specific things with.

Sunglasses are Made from Human Hair

These sunglasses may be the grossest sunshades I have ever heard of. They things are made from a mixture of some sort of resin and actual human hair. I assume the hair is the sort that was hacked off at a barbershop and then put inside the resin to achieve the design. I will say that the glasses look pretty cool and if I didn't know hair was inside they might be ok to wear.
