Posted: 18 Jun 2011 11:51 AM PDT And he doesn’t wear pants! (Ahem.) Neither does ‘it’ live in the sea. But scientists were so fascinated y its shame and spongy appearance they named it Spongiforma squarepantsii after the insanely popular cartoon character. This new member of the Spongiforma genus was discovered last year in the jungles of Sarawak, Malaysia. Since its semi-controversial christening, the squarepantsii has garnered no small amount of renown across the blogosphere. Ex-Infinity Ward Heads vs Activision Trial Going Nuclear Posted: 17 Jun 2011 03:53 PM PDT Which just means there’s actually going to be a trial instead of those wimpy settlements big industry scuffles are usually resolved with. You may remember Jason West and Vince Zampella for heading up Infinity Ward during the development of the incredible Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and the considerably less incredible sequel, after the release of which Activision promptly fired them both and watched half of Infinity Ward leave with them to form a new studio. PS4 Not Coming “For Some Time”, Says Sony Posted: 17 Jun 2011 03:12 PM PDT Despite letting slip a few details to the contrary in a recent investor meeting, which were, to be fair, later brushed aside as referring to the PlayStation Vita, Sony says it’s new home console is still a long way coming. And honestly, having had a look at what the Wii U is bringing to the table, it’s pretty hard to argue. Not to mention that Sony even has a line of PlayStation tablets coming out soon. Japan Outlaws Computer Viruses Posted: 17 Jun 2011 02:49 PM PDT We’re pretty sure we’re missing something here. Yes, Japan has basically outlawed computer viruses and malware, slapping authors with a potential fine of $6200, which is still better than the alternative three-year sentence. We haven’t missed that part. But this does give rise to a few questions. Questions like is this a good idea? If it’s a good idea, why is Japan the first to implement it? And if it’s not, what exactly is holding everyone else back? Sony Xperia Duo Picture Doing The Rounds? Posted: 17 Jun 2011 02:19 PM PDT Sony Ericsson’s crusade against the ubiquitous screen bezel seems to be going swimmingly, if that really is its new and supposedly first of its dual-core kind for the company, the Sony Xperia Duo. We can’t really tell from the picture, although the UI design certainly seems familiar. Although, the whole thing looks roughly familiar, that could easily be a slightly tweaked Arc. Vizio Tablet to Hit Walmart in 6-weeks? Posted: 17 Jun 2011 12:55 PM PDT There are a bunch of tablets on the market today and most of them run Android. I have long said what we need on the Android tablet market isn’t necessarily a tablet with more performance, but a nicely featured Android tablet at a good price. The Vizio 8-inch tablet may be just that machine. The tablet is rumored to sell for $349 and it has nice specs. Fujitsu and Folli Follie Team for Weird Perfume Smelling Mobile Phone in China Posted: 17 Jun 2011 12:46 PM PDT Some weird things come out of Asia in the gadget world. I always think of the odd microscopes I have seen for checking the inside of your ears and such along with all the bizarre USB gear from masks to aromatherapy pots. One of the strangest devices to surface recently comes from Fujitsu and Folli Follie.
