Today is the big day that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 hits retail shelves nationwide for you to pick up. If you are holding out for a 3G packing version of the tablet, your wait may not be a long one. A new version of the Tab 10.1 has landed at the FCC. The new version is running 3G hardware that supports the AT&T spectrum.

Crytek Denies Rumor that it Has Xbox 720 Hardware

E3 2011 ended not too long ago and at the show we got a glimpse of the future Nintendo console called the Wii U. Nintendo really needed that new console with sales of its current system sagging. We heard a rumor last week that there was a new Xbox console being called the Xbox 720 coming to E3 2012 next year.

Tiny Tim Booklight Is Really Really Tiny

Can’t stress that enough—as in just 5 inches ‘tall’. It can fit in your pocket and be clipped somewhere, like the edge of a book. Of course, the Tiny Tim begs the question why bother with a reading light when most ereaders have backlit screens? Keep in mind what makes Tiny Tim attractive is the novelty. That, and it reminds people of Luxo, the Pixar mascot.

Valve Developing Free To Play Games

It was only last week Valve started adding free-to-play games to online Steam service and according to a recent interview with Valve’s Doug Lombardi it now looks like Valve are already developing their own free-to-play games.

When interviewed by the French site Barre De Vie, Valve's Doug Lombardi confirmed Valve was currently developing at least one free-to-play game for release, admitting that, while not popular in the US, the free-to-play model is still very a money maker in other markets.

Skype 5.5 Beta With Facebook Integration Released

Skype has just released a new beta version of their popular VoiP software for Microsoft’s Windows, Skype 5.5 Beta, and this latest version adds a number of new features to Skype, with one major one which is integration with Facebook.

Google Digitising 250,000 Books From The British Library’s Collection

This week Google and the British Library have announced that they will be working together to digitise 250,000 books from the out-of-copyright texts from the 18th and 19th centuries. Bringing a staggering 40 million pages to the digital world via both Google Books and the British Library’s website.

Google already has similar arrangements with some 40 other libraries around the world and will be looking to provide the new digitised books in a variety of languages, focusing on items that have never been available online before.

Acer Unveil Predator G5910 Gaming System

Processor options include either a K series Intel Core i7 or Core i5 CPU which can then be overclocked, using the included the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (IXTU) to help squeeze every last drop of power from the system and its components.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update (Video)

Back in March Sony Ericsson announced that they would be releasing an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original Xperia X10, and now Sony Ericsson has released a video which shows Android 2.3 Gingerbread in action on the Xperia X10.

Sony Ericsson have said that they are still testing out Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the Xperia X10, and are hoping to release the update at the start of August 2011.

Wacom Unveil Their New Bamboo Paper iPad Note Taking App

Wacom the creators of iPad Bamboo Stylus and highly regarded graphic tablets have this week launched their new note taking application, which has been designed to be used in conjunction with their Bamboo iPad Stylus. Although the iPad app will work with other styli and even your finger if needed.

Shuttle XG41 Barebone PC (Video)

Shuttle has added another barebone PC to their range with the launch of the Shuttle XG41, which is designed to be much smaller than Shuttle’s other PCs but still offer the same amount of computing power.

The Shuttle XG41 measures 24.2 cm by 20cm by 7.3 cm, and it comes with HDMI, DVI-I ports, plus six USB 2.0 ports, 2x COM (RS-232 + RS-232/422/485), plus two Gigabit network interfaces, S/PDIF and audio ports on the back and front.

Say Goodbye To Google’s “I’m Feeling Lucky” Button

Its look as though Google’s “I’m feeling lucky” button might be permanently removed from the search giants, query page. Going on new user interface designs currently being tested in Finland which show a Google search page without a “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.

There’s been no official announcement by Google saying the button will or has been removed as yet, but with developments in Google’s new instant search perhaps the button is now no longer required.

Olympus Pen E-PM1 Leaked

If you need to brush up on your golfing handicap Ping have created an app for that. The new iPing iPhone and iPod putter application has been designed for golfers to enable them to improve their putting by analysing their stroke type, tempo of the putting stroke and impact angle.

Eizo DuraVision FDH3601 4K2K Monitor Announced

Eizo Japan has added a new high resolution monitor to its line up, with the launch of the Eizo DuraVision FDH3601 36.4 inch monitor which features a 4K2K resolution, which works out at 4,096 x 2,160 pixels.

Other features on the Eizo DuraVision FDH3601 monitor include two DVI-D ports, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and two DisplayPorts plus a 799cd/M2 brightness and an 8ms response time.

OmegaCam Captures 268 Megapixel Photos Of Space

If you think your new DSLR camera is packed with a large megapixel capture limited, when compared to the OmegaCam designed to take photographs of outer space it falls short of the OmegaCam’s 268 megapixels. The OmegaCam is equipped with a massive 1,700 pound sensor that makes up the wide-angle eye of the VLT Survey Telescope at Paranal Observatory.

The sensor is constructed from 32 individual CCD sensors which are then combined to create the huge 268 megapixels images of our night sky and the furthest reaches of space.

The Beer Can Surfboard

We have featured quite a few cool creations made from beer cans here at Geeky Gadgets, like the beer can robot, and now we have the Beer Can Surfboard which is the work or San Diego artist Richard Morrison and surfboard maker Gary Seagraves.

The Beer Can Surfboard started out as a sculpture, but now it is probably the worlds first fully working surfboard made from recycled beer cans, and it is made up of a total of 72 beer cans.

New Meet The Medic TF2 Movie Arriving Soon?

The arrival of three birds and bird droppings all over the official TF2 blog site could indicate that Valve are nearly ready to release their highly anticipated movie “Meet the Medic”. Its been over two years since Valve released the last movie in the “Meet The…” series when we were introduced to the Spy. (Watch the video after the break).

Even though birds and droppings may not have much to do with medic’s if you click on the birds along the top of the site, you are then shown images of a waiting room, doctors office and hospital.

LG Optimus 3D Hits The UK 27th of June For £499

Last week LG announced that the new LG Optimus 3D was launching worldwide and it would start rolling out in Europe first and now one UK retailer has listed the Optimus 3D on their site with a delivery date of the 27th of June.

Razer Orochi Black Chrome Edition Gaming Mouse

Razer has added a new gaming mouse to their range this week with the launch of the Razer Orochi Black Chrome Edition gaming mouse. The Orochi Black Chrome is equipped with a 7 programmable buttons and while being used in wireless mode allows you to have up to 2000DPI sensitivity with a 125Hz polling/8ms response.

However if you leave it connected via the supplied charging cable that response time climbs to to 4000DPI, 1000Hz ultrapolling/1ms response and its supported by both PC and Mac systems.

Google Acquires SageTV

Google this weekend has announced its acquisition of SageTV who has been developing streaming television and media centre software for Windows, Mac and Linux since 2002.

Google acquired SageTV for an undisclosed sum and will surely put the company to work on its Google TV offering which has been lacking the edge to be able to make an impact on the market. Its now thought that SageTV may well bring DVR functionality to Google TV but this might duplicate the features of the system which has been primarily designed to work with existing DVR device rather than become a standalone.

Huawei MediaPad 7 Inch Android Honeycomb Tablet Gets Official

Huawei has been teasing their new Android tablet over the last few weeks, first we saw some teaser photos of the new Huawei MediaPad and then a video, and now Huawei has made the MediaPad official.

The Huawei MediaPad features a 7 inch IPS touchscreen display, and it will come with Android Honeycomb 3.2, which is basically the same  as Android 3.1 except it has been designed to work with 7 inch displays, there is also a dual core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor.

Apple And Samsung In Talks To Settle Patent Lawsuit

We have been hearing quite a bit about the lawsuit between Apple and Samsung over the last couple of weeks, and now it would appear that the two companies have entered talks in an attempt to resolve their dispute.

This seems quite strange, considering what both companies have been saying about each other over the last few weeks, with last week Apple accusing Samsung of ‘blatantly imitating’ Apple’s products, and before that Apple accused Samsung of harassment.

Firefox 5 Available Via Mozilla FTP Servers

A new version of Firefox 5 has been discovered which is now available on the Mozilla FTP servers. The final release of Firefox 5 hasn’t been officially released as yet, but if you are brave enough you can now download Firefox 5 from the Mozilla FTP servers.

Mozilla released its beta version of Firefox 5 back in May and the new browser brings with it  support for CSS animation, and much easy-to-find Do Not Track setting, together with a number of other performance and security enhancements.

Microsoft Gets FTC Approval To Buy Skype

Back in May, Microsoft announced that it would be buying Skype for a massive $8.5 billion, of course for this to go ahead Microsoft would have to receive approval from the Federal Trade Commission in the US.

The FTC announced on Friday that it has given its approval for the Microsoft Skype deal to go ahead, and the deal is worth a total of $8.5 billion in cash, this figure also includes Microsoft taking on Skype’s existing debts.

Fantastic Metropolis II Matchbox Car Cityscape (video)

We first featured the matchbox creations of Chris Burden back in 2010 when he was building the framework for his artistic Metropolis II Matchbox Car Cityscape which is 10ft tall and 28 ft wide. Burden's kinetic sculpture Metropolis II is a massive cityscape where more than a 1,000 toy cars racing down 18 lanes of freeways continuously.

The Match Box cityscape took artist Chris Burden, and his chief engineer Zak Cook, together with ten assistants four years to build in his Topanga Canyon studio, and now the Metropolis II has now been sold for millions of dollars and can been seen in all its glory in the video after the jump.

Japan’s K Computer Is The Worlds Fastest Supercomputer

Japan’s K Computer has taken the top spot on the Top500 Supercomputing list, which is expected to be officially announced later today as the world’s fastest Supercomputer.

The K Computer is housed in Kobe’s RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science, and it is capable of achieving more than 8 quadrillion calculations per second, and now takes the top spot on the list from China.

Nokia To Produce 125,000 Windows Phone 7 Devices This Year?

Last week Nokia announced that their first Windows Phone 7 devices would launch in Europe in quarter 4 of 2011, and would be available in six European countries which include the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands.

Now according to Eldair Murtzain, Nokia intends to manufacture just 125,000 Windows Phone 7 devices before the end of 2011, that would mean that the six countries would get around 21,000 Nokia WP7 device each to sell to customers.

T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide Poses For The Camera

We have previousl;y heard about the new T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide, and now the guys over at TMO news have got their hands on some decent photos of the new MyTouch 4G Slide.

It looks like the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slidewill come with Android Gingerbread, and will feature a HTC Sense UI, similar to that of the HTC Sensation, although it will have some specific MyTouch features.

HP TouchPad Goes Up For Pre-order In the US

HP’s first webOS tablet, the HP TouchPad is now available to pre-order from a wide range of retailers in the US, prices start at $499.99 for the 16GB model and $599.99 for the 32GB model, and it will start shipping on the 1st of July.

As a reminder the HP TouchPad will come with webOS 3.0 and it features a 9.7 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, processing is provided by a dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 512MB of RAM.

New Mac Pro’s And Mac Mini’s With Thunderbolt Launching In August?

It looks like Apple may be launching new versions of its Mac Pro and Mac Mini, and according to Cnet’s Brian Tong, they are scheduled to hit the stores either at the end of July or the beginning of August.

Both the new Mac Pro’s and Mac Mini’s are report to come with Intel’s new Thunderbolt technology, and both will apparently come preloaded with Mac OS X Lion.

Facebook’s Music Services Will Go Beyond Spotify

We have been hearing rumors for a while that Facebook and Spotify will be offering some sort of music service to Facebook users, and now it seems that Facebook has bigger plans for music than just Spotify.

According to a recent report by GigaOm, Facebook has bigger plans for music, and they are hoping to integrate other music service and applications with Facebook, and the company is currently working on adding more partners for its f8 annual developer conference.

Gordan Murray’s New Batmobile (Video)

The latest Batmobile has been designed by Gordon Murray, for the Batman Live World Arena Tour, Murray is the designer of the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, and it features a carbon fiber body that can breathe.

There is also four LED lit virtual wheels, and the whole car is based on formula one materials, and it looks like Batman has a new more environmentally friendly ride as it is powered by hydrogen fuel cells and lithium ion batteries, have a look at the video of it in action below.

HTC Thunderbolt Android 2.3.4 OTA Update Coming 30th of June

It looks like the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon Wireless will be getting an update an over the air (OTA) update to Android 2.3.4 later this month according to the guys over at Android and Me.

The Android 2.3.4 update for the HTC Thunderbolt will be released on the 30th of June and it will bring a range of new features to the device, which include the Amazon App store pre-installed, plus Skype video functionality and gTalk video.

Asus has added another gaming notebook to its range with the release of the Asus ROG G74SX notebook,  and it comes with the latest Intel Sandy Bridge quad Core i7 2630QM processor, plus a massive 12GB of DDR3 RAM and 1.5TB of storage.

On top of that the Asus ROG G74SX features a 17.3 inch Full HD display with a resoltion of 1920 x 1080, graphics are provided by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 3GB GDDR5 graphics card.

New York Post Blocks iPhone And iPad Users

The New York Post has decided to block mobile Safari users from accessing its website, instead of the New York Post website, users are greated with a screen which says that editorial content is now only accessible on the iPad through the New York Post app.

Of course, the New York Post will charge you a fee to use their app, which currently costs $6.99 a month, or $39.99 for six months, or a 12 month subscription of $79.99.

ChevronWP7 Labs Official Windows Phone 7 Jailbreak Comming Soon

When the guys from ChevronWP7 first developed their jailbreak for Windows Phone 7 devices, Microsoft contacted them and decided to enter discussion with them about releasing an official jailbreak solution for Windows Phone 7.

The tool was soon pulled and we have been waiting to here the outcome of the discussions with Microsoft for a while now. The ChevronWP7 team are releasing an approved Windows Phone unlocking tool.
