DTV Shredder Finally Gets An Army Upgrade

Alien Finder SETI Is Cash Strapped, Wants Donations

Since science and pretty much any ambitious, groundbreaking endeavor can hardly survive without generous patrons, a new website seeks to attract donor funding that will boost the faltering SETI program. What’s at stake are the SETI dishes ATA (Allen Telescope Array) in NoCal whose sole task is to find out if there’s life beyond the Earth. Surprise, surprise, the amount isn’t very large for such a high tech endeavor–SETI needs $200,000 to resurrect the ATA. So far  only about $25,000 has been raised.

Kensington Orbit Wireless Mobile Trackball Breaks Cover

Belkin ScreenCast for WiDi Notebooks Debuts

Belkin has unveiled a new accessory to go along with your WiDi packing Intel notebook computer. The WiDi tech allows the notebook to shoot video out to other devices without needing any cables. The ScreenCast TV will only work with notebooks that support WiDi so if yours doesn’t, don't other with this device.

PogoPlug Drops The Hardware And Becomes Software Only (video)

PogoPlug has now dropped the hardware it used to allow you to share hard drives and its creators Cloud Engines has today started offering a software only version which allows you to transform any PC or Mac into a cloud sharing device. Enabling access to your files through the Internet or around your house on your own personal cloud.

Once you have downloaded and installed the new free PogoPlug software your computer then becomes the cloud server and your HDD the cloud storage space, it even allows you to choose selected folders to setup as a separate devices on your network, all then linked to your one account.

Archos Arnova 7 Barebones Android Tablet For $99

Archos has just rolled out its new barebones Android tablet the Archos Arnova 7 which has just completed its way through the FCC and is now available to buy for just $99. Archos explains that the Archos Arnova 7 has been developed to bridge the gap between smartphones and the PC, and comes running Froyo 2.2.

The Arnova 7 barebones tablet is equipped with a 7 inch, widescreen resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixel. The tablet comes with a number of pre-installed applications ready to use straight out of the box. But you will also provide you with access to free and paid-for applications directly from the AppsLib app store, including games, news, communication and utilities apps.

Hitachi G-Connect iPad Wireless Router And Storage Solution

Hitachi have this week launched a new storage solution for multiple devices that allows can wireless streams up to five movies at once, while also providing shared Wi-Fi  Internet acces.

The Hitachi G-Connect can provide up to five standard or three HD video streams at one time and is equipped with 500GB of storage for your media files and movies. It also comes supporting iOS devices and apps for the iPad and iPhone enabling connectivity to iOS devices and Apple TV via AirPlay. Its also Mac OS X compatible and can be used with Time Machine.

Android apps for the Hitachi G-Connect are currently under development and will be released later this year.

Wi-Fi Fridge Equipped With Apps And LCD Screen

I have always dreamt of the day when you would be able to remove items from your fridge and have them noted automatically via the fridges onboard computer, which would then re-order the goods and miraculously reload the fridge in some way. Unfortunately I dont think we are quite there yet be Samsung’s new Wi-Fi fridge is definitely a step in the right direction.

The Samsung Wi-Fi fridge is equipped with a 8 inch screen and is loaded with eight apps: Memos, Photos, Epicurious, Calendar, WeatherBug, AP, Pandora, and Twitter, allowing you to organise your household.

The Facebook Icon Wall Clock

We have featured quite a few different geeky clocks here at Geeky Gadgets in the past, the latest one will appeal to fans of the worlds most popular social network, the Facebook Icon Wall clock.

As you can see from the photos below, the Facebook Icon Wall Clock is available in a couple of different versions, a wooden version and a plastic version, each clock has been hand made and instead of numbers to mark the time there are various icons for each hour.

Innovative Lytro Focus-Free Digital Camera, Under Development

An new an innovative way to take photographs is currently under development that could revolutionise the way you use your camera. The new Lytro focus-free digital camera uses light field technology which is currently under development.

Its being to created to remove the need to focus your shot before you press the shutter release button on your camera. Enabling you to take photographs instantly without having to worry about the camera going through its focusing procedure first and wasting precious seconds.

Motorola Xoom Android 3.1 Update Rolling Out In Europe

Motorola has announced that it has started rolling out the Android Honeycomb 3.1 update to their Xoom tablet in Europe, and the update is expected to be rolled out accross Europe over the next few weeks.

Android Honeycomb 3.1 adds a range of new features to the Motorola Xoom, which include the activation of the Xoom’s built in SD card slot, customizable and re-sizable widgets, support for USB connected accessories, and expanded Bluetooth support, the news of the update was announced on Facebook by Motorola who released the following statement.

Nokia Windows Phone 7 Devices Launching 26th Of October?

Nokia has already announced that they would be launching their first Windows Phone 7 devices in certain European countries in quarter four of 2011, and now it seems that we may have a possible launch date of October the 26th.

Nokia has announced the dates for its Nokia World Conference, which will take place this year on the 26th and 27th of October in London, and there will be conference includes two daily keynote addresses as well as an event for the 26th of October which is currently listed as ‘To be announced’.

Impulse Response iPhone App Records A Locations Acoustic Characteristics

A new innovative iPhone application called Impulse Response has been created by Sam Harman, and enables the user to record the acoustic characteristics of a room or location. This acoustic data can then be transferred to a computer and used to create audio using the rooms acoustic signatures making the track then sound as if it had been played and recorded within that particular room or environment.

For example you could go to the Albert Hall and record its acoustic characteristics using the Impulse Response app, then add this data to music allowing it to sound as though it was played and recorded at the Albert Hall.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray And Xperia Active Smartphones Announced

Sony Ericsson has announced to new Android smartphones at CommunicAsia 2011, the Xperia Active and the Xperia Ray, and both models will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

First up is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, which features a 3.3 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 854 x 4780 pixels, it also comes with an 8 megapixel camera.

Google Adding Video Chat Functions To Chrome Browser

Google has announced this week via its Chromium-dev group that it is currently developing a video chat function which it will shortly be adding to its Google Chrome browser. The foundation for the new video chat features will be Google’s WebRTC project which provides open real-time voice and video chat using HTML and JavaScript.

Once rolled out the biggest beneficiary would be Google’s Gmail service which currently requires a separate plugin to allow video chat to users.

HTC Sensation Now Available From Three UK

The HTC Sensation went on sale in the UK back in May, it was available exclusively from Vodafone, and now it looks like the exclusivity has ended as the HTC Sensation is now also available from Three here in the UK.

Three are selling the HTC Sensation, and it is available on a range of different plans, with the cheapest starting at £30 per month on a 24 month contract, and the handset is available for free.

Samsung Denied Access To iPhone 5 And iPad 3

The lawsuit between Apple and Samsung continues, the last thing that we heard was both Apple and Samsung were in talks to settle their patent disputes outside of court.

Now it seems that Samsung has been denied access to Apple’s unreleased products, the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3, as according to Foss Patents Samsung’s motion to get their hands on Apple’s yet to be announced devices has been turned down.

SanDisk Launches 800GB Lightning SSD

If you thought solid state drives were restrictive with their current size limitations, its time to think again as SanDisk has now launched two new Lightning ranges of solid state drives with capacities ranging from 100GB up to a massive 800GB, just dont ask the price unless your sitting down.

The SanDisk Lightning drives ranges include three SLC (single-level cell) flash drives with capacities of 100, 200 and 400GB, together with three MLC (multi-level cell) flash drives with capacities of 200, 400 and 800GB. They are also available in a 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch standard form factor and have been designed to integrate seamlessly into existing SAS enterprise storage and server systems without the need for any changes to existing applications.

Nexus S Overclocked To 1.544GHz, Scores Incredible 10,082 In Smartbench2011

Android Community member Simms22 has overclocked a Nexus S to 1.544 Ghz and then with using a combination of rooting, adding CyanogenMod 7 and running the Trinity kernel together with a large amount of tweaking has been able to score and incredible 10,082 score in the benchmarking software Smartbench2011.

If you look at the screen grabs below you can see that when compared to other overclocked mobile devices the Nexus S is streets ahead. But Simms22 does admit the benchmarking systems used did have a few bugs and has approached the developers to get them fixed.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Coming To Sprint June 24th

Sprint has announced that it will start selling the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US from the 24th of June, and they will be offering the 16GB version which will retail for $499.99.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 features a 10.1 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, it will come with the latest version of Android, Honeycomb 3.1, and it also features a dual core 1GHz processor.

Apple HDTV Arriving This Autumn?

The Apple rumour mill is causing a stir once again this week with reports that Apples iPhone 5 is arriving in August or September and now the Daily Tech website reports that Apple may have partnered with a major OEM to sell iOS equipped TVs which could be arriving in the Autumn.

The Apple TV rumour is not new by any means and has been mentioned before but now a former Apple executive has apparently told the website that Apple is looking to ”blow Netflix and all those other guys away” by moving into the the HD TV business.

iPhone 5 Coming In September With A5 Processor?

Yesterday we heard that Apple may launch the iPhone 5 in August, the new came from the BGR, and now Bloomberg is reporting that it will launch in September, not August as reported yesterday.

There seems to be quite a bit of speculation on when Apple will actually launch the iPhone 5, as they normally announce it earlier in the year at WWDC, but it looks like it will either be the end of August or the start of September that we will get some official word from Apple on the iPhone 5.

Amazon Tablet Coming This Summer?

We have been hearing a number of reports that Amazon are working on their own Android tablet, and now according to DigiTimes, the Amazon tablet is expected to launch in the late summer, with a reported launch some time at the end of August or the start of September.

According to the report, the Amazon tablet will feature a processor provided by Texas Instruments and a touchscreen panel provided by Wintek, and their supplier are expected to ship around 700,000 to 800,000 tablets to Amazon starting in August.

Leica has today launched their new M9-P digital camera which the company says is the smallest, full-frame digital camera in the world, measuring just 139 x 37 x 80 mm.

The Leica MP-9 is a newer version of Leica’s M9 rangefinder digital camera and has been designed for the professional user combining all the benefits of the original, with its compact size,  full-frame, 18 megapixel 24 x 36mm sensor, together with a robust construction and $8000 price tag to match.

Firefox 5 Final Version Released By Mozilla

Mozilla has now launched the final version of their new Firefox 5 browser, for Windows, Mac and Linux keeping their promise to follow a more accelerated release format which was announced back in March.

Firefox 5 the first release under the new accelerated schedule made the cut on Mozilla’s self-imposed deadline of June 21st and has brought with it over a 1,000 improvements to the browser, says Mozilla. But most of which have been tweaks and minor bugs fixes, but new features in the final Firefox 5 include a new easier method to switch channels with the new browser. Allowing you to select the Aurora development stage, Beta or Release channels with ease.

Case-Mate Unveil $300 Titanium iPhone 4 Case (video)

We have featured a number of Case-Mate cases here on Geeky Gadgets over the last few years, but their new Titanium iPhone 4 Case has to be the most expensive priced at $300.

The Case-Mate Titanium iPhone 4 Case is machined from a single piece of titanium, which is used in the manufacture of aircraft and luxury vehicles. The case comes with its own mini tool set including a mini-screw driver to help you attach the Titanium case to your iPhone 4. Toshiba Unveils All-In-One Full HD Touchscreen PC

Today Toshiba has unveiled their new All-in-One PC the Toshiba DX1215 which is equipped with a full 21.5 inch 1080p HD touchscreen and is powered by Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processors.

The Toshiba DX1215 is the first All-in-One PC the company has manufactured for the US market and enables buyers to either install an Intel i5 or i7 processor together with 1TB of storage, making the DX1215 a good home media centre storage solution. Its also fitted with a pair of Onkyo stereo speakers professionally tuned by experts at Waves, to provide high quality sound for media playback.

In its complete state the Motorola Xoom tablet runs Googles Android Honeycomb OS and comes equipped with two cameras, one the front and one on the rear together with playback support for AAC, H.263, H.264, MP3, MPEG-4, ACC+ Enhanced, OGG, MIDI, AMR NB, and AAC+ media formats.

Verbatim Unveils Wireless Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard

Verbatim has announced that its cool Wireless Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard is now compatible with iOS devices and Android 3.0. The keyboards integrated media console will also control the media playback on the Android 3.0 tablets as well. The keyboard folds and has a leather style pouch for storage.
