What’s at stake are the SETI dishes ATA (Allen Telescope Array) in NoCal whose sole task is to find out if there’s life beyond the Earth. Surprise, surprise, the amount isn’t very large for such a high tech endeavor–SETI needs $200,000 to resurrect the ATA. So far only about $25,000 has been raised. Impulse Response iPhone App Records A Locations Acoustic Characteristics Posted: 22 Jun 2011 03:42 AM PDT A new innovative iPhone application called Impulse Response has been created by Sam Harman, and enables the user to record the acoustic characteristics of a room or location. This acoustic data can then be transferred to a computer and used to create audio using the rooms acoustic signatures making the track then sound as if it had been played and recorded within that particular room or environment. For example you could go to the Albert Hall and record its acoustic characteristics using the Impulse Response app, then add this data to music allowing it to sound as though it was played and recorded at the Albert Hall. Google Adding Video Chat Functions To Chrome Browser Posted: 22 Jun 2011 03:01 AM PDT Google has announced this week via its Chromium-dev group that it is currently developing a video chat function which it will shortly be adding to its Google Chrome browser. The foundation for the new video chat features will be Google’s WebRTC project which provides open real-time voice and video chat using HTML and JavaScript. Once rolled out the biggest beneficiary would be Google’s Gmail service which currently requires a separate plugin to allow video chat to users.

Nexus S Overclocked To 1.544GHz, Scores Incredible 10,082 In Smartbench2011 Posted: 22 Jun 2011 12:26 AM PDT Android Community member Simms22 has overclocked a Nexus S to 1.544 Ghz and then with using a combination of rooting, adding CyanogenMod 7 and running the Trinity kernel together with a large amount of tweaking has been able to score and incredible 10,082 score in the benchmarking software Smartbench2011. If you look at the screen grabs below you can see that when compared to other overclocked mobile devices the Nexus S is streets ahead. But Simms22 does admit the benchmarking systems used did have a few bugs and has approached the developers to get them fixed. The Apple TV rumour is not new by any means and has been mentioned before but now a former Apple executive has apparently told the website that Apple is looking to ”blow Netflix and all those other guys away” by moving into the the HD TV business. There seems to be quite a bit of speculation on when Apple will actually launch the iPhone 5, as they normally announce it earlier in the year at WWDC, but it looks like it will either be the end of August or the start of September that we will get some official word from Apple on the iPhone 5. Amazon Tablet Coming This Summer? According to the report, the Amazon tablet will feature a processor provided by Texas Instruments and a touchscreen panel provided by Wintek, and their supplier are expected to ship around 700,000 to 800,000 tablets to Amazon starting in August. The Toshiba DX1215 is the first All-in-One PC the company has manufactured for the US market and enables buyers to either install an Intel i5 or i7 processor together with 1TB of storage, making the DX1215 a good home media centre storage solution. Its also fitted with a pair of Onkyo stereo speakers professionally tuned by experts at Waves, to provide high quality sound for media playback.
