Google Sued Over Chromebook Name

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 07:04 AM PDT

Even before Google’s new Chromebook systems have even launched the company has already received claims that the Chromebook name infringes on its trademarks.

ISYS the owner of the Xi3 Corporation insists that the Chromebook name is too close to their already existing ChromiumPC, a desktop computer that runs the Chrome OS.

This isn’t the first fight the two companies have engaged in as Google after ISYS tried to trademark their ChromiumPC name last year. But Google stepped in and objected saying the name was too close to their Chromium OS name.

iTunes Match To Be US Only At Launch

Posted: 10 Jun 2011 05:44 AM PDT

Earlier today we heard that the UK wouldn’t get the music part of iCloud when it launches in the Autumn, this has yet to be confirmed by Apple, but after looking at the iCloud page over at Apple it clearly states that iTunes Match will be ‘starting in the US’, when it launches later this year.

This gives us the impression that iTunes Match will only be available in the US at launch, and this seems to be down to the fact that Apple hasn’t secured deals with record companies and music publishers in other countries outside the US.

Apple’s iCloud Allows Banned Apps To Be Downloaded Again

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 11:19 PM PDT

We have all downloaded apps from the Apple App Store, that have subsequently been removed or banned from the App Store, but now it seems that some of the apps have reappeared and can be downloaded thanks to Apple’s iCloud.

According to the guys over at CDFXApps, who discovered this, if you have downloaded an application in the past and Apple has removed it from the app store, it still shows up on your iPhone or iPad in the purchased app tab and can be downloaded again.

iDos

The guys over at DFX noticed this and managed to download iDos, which was removed from the app store because it allowed it allowed root access and allowed you to run EXE files.

No doubt Apple will probably close this loophole, so if you need to re-download anything that has been removed from the app store now might be the time to do it.

UK Won’t Get Music Part Of iCloud Until 2012?

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 10:38 PM PDT

When Apple recently announced iCloud they said it would be coming this fall at the same time as iOS 5, one thing they didn’t mention was whether or not the service would launch in other countries at the same time.

Now according to a recent report by the Telegraph, we won’t see the music part of iCloud with iTunes Match launch in the UK until the early part of 2012, and this is down to deals not being signed with the record labels here in the UK.

It looks like Apple has started talk;s with the Performing Rights Society, and also individual record labels here in the UK, bot both talks are reported to be in the ‘early stages’, and one music executive has been quoted as saying the following.

Apple iCloud

Tentative talks have begun between the major labels and Apple in the UK. However, all talks are at the really early stages and no one expects to see the cloud music service live on this side of the pond until 2012."

So how does this leave other countries in Europe and around the world/ We suspect that many countries will see a similar situation and it will take Apple longer to roll out the music part of iCloud to other countries as individual deals will have to be signed within each country.

So it looks like iCloud will probably launch in the UK at the same time as the US, but UK users wont be able to use iTunes Match and unless Apple manages to get the deals signed before launch.
