Sony offers New PSP-3000 Value Packs in Japan

We are all expecting the PS Vita to land in November of this year and the PSP-3000 that we have today will disappear. It’s really time for the PSP-3000 to leave; it was never that great a portable console to begin with. Sony needs something that will compete with the Nintendo DS and 3DS. Whether or not the PS Vita will compete we can't say at this point.

Gameloft Announces 12 Games Headed To All Mobile Platforms Before Christmas

Gameloft has announced a new range of games that it will be launching on all mobile platforms before Christmas, the list includes titles which are already available on  some mobile platforms like Apple iOS as well as some new ones.

The 12 games that Gameloft will be launching for mobile devices include Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Lego Batman, Immortals, Wild West Guns, Gangster Rio: City of Saints, Real Football 2012, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, Midnight Pool 3, Driver San Francisco, Sid Meier’s Civilization V,  Where’s Wally and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

You Just Want To Jump On This Millennium Falcon Beanbag Bed

The revered Millennium Falcon has a solid track record here at GG. So far, there’s been a cake, a scale model, and a good sized bed. Apple Starts Refunding Final Cut Pro X For Unhappy Customers

Apple recently launched the latest version of its Final Cut Pro video editing suite, Final Cut Pro X, the reviews of the software haven’t been that amazing as many users don’t seem happy with the changes over the previous version of Final Cut Pro.

Now according to The Next Web Apple has started issuing refunds to customers who were unhappy with the software, who have filed a request to Apple through the Mac App Store customer service.

Apple Xserve Experiences Issues After 10.6.8 Update

Its not just Apple’s TV that seems to be experiencing problems with updates from Apple this week. Reports are not surfacing that users of Apple’s Xserves are also experiencing a few issues after the latest 10.6.8 update.

Even though Apple has discontinued the Xserve line of systems updates are still being rolled out the same as other Apples OS X devices. But users seems to be experiencing problems with the Mac OS X Server-exclusive hardware monitoring daemon called hwmond.

Apple Removes SpyKey Keylogger App From The App Store

Some of our readers will remember the SpyKey keylogger app that we talked about last week, which Apple had approved and it was available to download from the App store.

Gizmodo first spotted the app last week, and they weren’t they only ones who were surprised to see this sort of app approved by Apple, it looks like it has now been removed from the app store, according to one of our readers, and I just checked for it myself and cant seem to find it anywhere.

The Light Scythe Creates Cool Digital Art

Mini Steve Jobs Action Figure Appears Online

Some of our readers will remember the Steve Jobs action figure that Apple stopped from being sold, now it looks like another company is attempting to sell another Steve Jobs action figure, and unless this one has Apple’s blessing we can’t really see it going into production.

The Mini Steve Jobs action figure is apparently 1/6th scale of Apple’s CEO, at it even come with a range of Apple products which include a miniature iMac, magic Mouse, Bluetooth keyboard and an iPhone 4.

Nikon Shows Off Concept And Prototype Cameras

Nikon has displayed a range of concept and prototype cameras that haven’t made it into production at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris as part of the Hello Demain (hello tomorrow) exhibition.

As you can see from the photos below there are a number of unique prototypes, including the first one, which is some sort of multi ball camera that is capable of capturing photos from multiple angles.

Apple Unveils New Thunderbolt Cable

Apple has to added new Thunderbolt cables to its online store to compliment the ever growing list of Mac systems equipped with Thunderbolt ports. The new Thunderbolt cables are 2 metres long and are available to purchase for $49 or £39 in the UK.

Even though new peripherals are still a little scarce at the moment couple of cool things you can do with your new cable, if you own a new iMac and Mac Pro both equipped with Thunderbolt ports. Is to connect them together and mount one computer as an external drive on the other, in Target Disk Mode or to use a new iMac as a display for a MacBook Pro equipped with Thunderbolt.

Google Activating Over 500,000 Android Devices Per Day

Google’s Andy Rubin has just announced on Twitter that Google are now activating over half a million Android devices each day, and according to the Tweet, this is increasing by about 4.4% each week.

The news comes just over a month after Google announced that they were activating 400,00 Android devices per day, Google also announced back in may that they had hit 100 million Android devices activated, obviously this number will have increased quite a bit since then.

New Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro Coming August 5th, Goes Up For Preorder

Sony Ericsson recently announced a new version of its Xperia Mini Pro, and now it is available to pre-order for £239.99 SIM free in the UK with online retailer Play listing it with a shipping date of August the 5th.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro features a 3 inch touch screen display with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, it comes with android 2.3 Gingerbread, plus a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 5 megapixel camera which can record HD video in 720p.

Opera 11.50 Final Released With Speed Dial Extensions (video)

Today Opera has released a new version of its browser in the form of Opera 11.50 which has been coded named “Swordfish” while under development. The new release brings with it a new lightweight look, password synchronisation and speed dial extensions, together with plenty of other tweaks and enhancements.

Wikitude Augmented Reality Browser Now Offers Android Honeycomb Tablet Support

Motorola Triumph Coming 19th July

Motorola and Virgin Mobile recently announced the new Motorola Triumph for the US and now it looks like it will be available in the US from Best Buy from the 19th of July.

Specifications wise the Motorola Triumph features a 4.1 inch WVGA touch screen display, plus a 1GHz processor and Android 2.2 Froyo, there is also a five megapixel camera on the back which is capable of recording HD video in 720p plus a VGA camera up front for video chat.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Adds TRIM Support, But Only For Apple’s SSDs

Apple’s latest OS X update 10.6.8 has brought with it TRIM an great new feature for Mac’s fitted with solid state drives. TRIM support enables your SSD to write data on top of deleted data without the need for another cycle first speeding up your machine considerable and stopping it becoming progressively more sluggish.

Unfortunately though if you have added your own personal SSD to your Mac system the new update will not add the TRIM feature and support to your SSD. As Apple has rolled out the update to only support official SSDs, rather than third party SSDs.

HTC EVO 3D Headed To Vodafone UK

The guys over at Vodafone UK just dropped us an email to let us know that they will start selling the New HTC EVO 3D shortly, whilst they didn’t give us an exact date it should be available some time in July as HTC announced yesterday that it would be available in Europe in July.

The HTC EVO 3D features a dual core 1.2GHz processor, plus a 4.3 inch qHD display that has a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, and it is capable of displaying 3D content without any 3D glasses.

Gadmei P83, $180 Glasses Free 3D PMP (video)

Last week we featured the Archos Arnova 7 Barebones Android Tablet priced at just $99 and this week a Gadmei P83 portable media player has been spotted over on Brando equipped with a glasses-free 3D display for just $180.

The unbranded Gadmei P83 PMP Player uses a naked eye 3D display and has an 8″ LCD backlit display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 supporting both 2D/3D videos and photography. LG DM50D 3D HTDV Monitor Announced

LG has added a new monitor to its range with the launch of the LG DM50D, although it seems it comes with a few more features than your standard computer monitor and according to LG the DM50D has all the features of LG’s Cinema 3D TVs.

The LG DM50D apparently has Full HDTV picture quality and it comes with a built in DTV tuner that offers support for MPEG4, DVBC, DVBT, and it also comes with HDMI so you can hook it up to your 3D Blu-Ray player or games console.

Adastra Trimaran Super Yacht Looks Like A Space Ship

We haven’t featured many boats here at Geeky Gadgets, but this one is definitely worth a mention, called the Adastra, this super yacht looks like some sort of alien space ship.

The Adastra is a high speed trimaran which was designed by John Shuttleworth, and it is currently being built in China for a Hong Kong couple, Anton and Elaine Marden.

Windows 8 RTM Coming April 2012?

We are expecting Microsoft to launch Windows 8 in the second part of 2012, probably around September October time, but now according to a recent report by ZDNet, Microsoft may deliver Windows 8 RTM (Release To manufacturing) in April of 2012.

The report also says that Microsoft will release the first beta of Windows 8 in September of this year, at the Build Conference 2011, which takes place from the 13th to the 16th of September.

Intel Working On Cloverview Platform For Windows 8

We are expecting Microsoft to launch Windows 8 in the autumn of 2012, their new OS is designed to be touch screen and tablet friendly and now it looks like Intel is working on a new Atom platform called Cloverview which is designed for Windows 8 tablets and touch screen devices.

According to a recent report by Liliputing, Intel is hoping to have its Cloverview platform ready for the launch of Windows 8, and the platform is designed to replace Intel’s current Oak Trail platform.

Activision Registers GoldenEye 007 Reloaded Domains

It has been discovered by Twitter user @supererogatory that Activision has been busy registering domain names containing the words “GoldenEye 007 Reloaded” which hint at a re-release of the popular 2010 Wii exclusive game GoldenEye 007.

The new domain registrations could indicate a sequel might be under development and gamers have longed for a remake of the GoldenEye 007 game launched on the N64. However due to the developers of that game, Rare now being owned by Microsoft that route to remake the game might be a little trickier.

HP TouchPad Launching With HP Created Facebook App

It was originally thought earlier today that the HP TouchPad had been chosen by Facebook and beaten Apple’s iPad to become the first tablet with an official Facebook application installed when it launches this Friday.

Some of our readers will remember the photos of the new T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide that we featured on the site last week, T-Mobile has now made the MyTouch 4G slide official.

The T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide features a 3.7 inch SLCD multi-touch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, processing is in the form of a dual core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and it will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Mitsubishi 22 Inch TV Includes Blu-ray And 500GB HDD

Mitsubishi have launched a new Real LCD-22BLR500 TV in Japan this week which includes both a Blu-ray player with AVREC support and 500GB of hard disk drive storage onboard.

The 22 inch TV has a LED-backlit 1,366×768 resolution screen together with a variety of ports on its rear including: 2 x HDMI slots, i.LINK, Ethernet (VOD support), 1 x USB port and an SD card slot for media transfer and viewing. The compact footprint and added features make the Real LCD-22BLR500 TV a perfect portable system.

The new What Do You Love? search service has been setup to help users search multiple channels using broader more vague search terms and returns a multitude of different resources from videos to translation, using Google range of products.

PayPal Reaches 100 Million “Active Users”

Paypal has now reached the 100 million their “active user” milestone, reports PayPal who have confirmed the news with technology news website Tech Crunch. Since the end of the last year PayPal has around 94.4 million active users and every month since then has been added users at a staggering rate with an estimates one million new active accounts every month.

One thing that hasn’t been confirmed by PayPal as yet is what they deem to be an “active user”, as this still remains a little unclear at the moment.

Hauppauge have this week launched their new Digital Broadway Box which has been designed to provide an easy way to watch live TV on your mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets whilst on your home network or while travelling. All you need is access to a Wifi connection.

The new system is compatible with Android phones and tablets plus the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, PC and Mac sending live TV to non-Apple mobile devices using Flash. The Broadway Box determines which device you are trying to stream video to and will adjust the video format to suit using its a built-in high quality H.264 HD video encoder.

Acer’s AC700 Chromebook Arrives This Month, 3G Model To Follow

Today Acer has announced that their new AC700 Chromebook will be arriving in the US this month for $350 and will be followed by the release of a 3G version during the summer months.

Acer’s AC700 Chromebook is the first in a planned line of products designed to run Google Chrome OS and is powered by a Atom N570 processor supported by 2GB of DDR3 memory. Local storage on the AC700 Chromebook is provided by a small 16GB SSD drive, with most of your documents residing in the cloud, eliminating the need for a large hard drive and helping to protect your data against loss.

Fring iPad App Provides 4 Way Group Video Calls

Sony Europe Unveils Vaio Z With External GPU

Sony Europe has just unveiled its new Vaio Z notebook, equipped with an external graphic card provided by a AMD Radeon HD 6650M with 1GB of VRAM and an optical drive, which are contained within the external Power Media Dock as Sony calls it, pictured below on the right.

The Vaio Z notebook is fitted with a 13.1 inch 1600 x 900 resolution screen, powered by a dual-core 2.7GHz Core i7 processor which can be supported by up to 8GB of RAM. Ultra fast storage is provided by dual 128 SSD drives configured in a RAID stripe, creating a combined 256GB drive.

Microsoft Iffy On 3D For Xbox 360

Well, the gaming public isn’t really crazy about the thing either, so it’s kind of nice seeing Microsoft keeping a cool head. Not that making people buy a $250 console and turn off its main feature , train themselves to power through headaches or sacrifice a decade of graphical advancement so they can play with bulky plastic glasses on doesn’t mean 3D isn’t wildly successful.

Supreme Court Rules Games Are Protected Speech

A law criminalizing the sale of M-rated games to children in the state of California has been overturned by the US Supreme Court, with a frankly astounding 7 to 2 vote. Not only that, but even the two who voted for the legislation were against it in principle, they just thought that given the current legislation against selling pornography to minors, not supporting this bill would show a double standard. And they were right. Sort of.
