Amazon Sells 6 Million Kindle Fires in Q4 Alone According to Analysts

I think we all expected the Amazon Kindle Fire to be a successful little tablet. The tablet runs Android, has access to lots of apps, and has a massive digital bookstore. The frosting on the cake was that the Kindle Fire sells for under $200 making it a raging bargain compared to the iPad.

Nokia Lumia 800 Lands In Australia In March

As Nokia continues its global roll out of its latest Windows Phone devices, the company has announced that they will launch the Nokia Lumia 800 in Australia in March.

The Nokia Lumia 800 will be available with a number os Australia’s mobile carriers and the device will be available in a range of colors, which include white, black, blue and magenta.

Apple Patent Reveals Innovative Use Of Magnets To Secure Your iOS Device

A new Apple patent application has been uncovered by the Patently Apple website, which uses programmable magnets to lock and unlock iOS devices. The innovative patent which reveals some great concepts for using the programmable magnets was first filed back in July 2011.

Within the patent application Apple uses the example of a stylus which has been equipped with specially programmed magnets and can lock and unlock your iOS device simply by coming close to it.

Google Suggests Android Developers Drop The Menu Button

Before Android 3.0 Honeycomb the Menu Button played and integral part of Google’s mobile operating system and was often used by developers to display options that were relevant to the user, often using the activity's built-in options menu.

But as Ice Cream Sandwich rolls out to more devices Google has reached out to Android developers and asked them to start dropping the Menu Button in favour of the action bar. Stating that it's important that developers migrate designs to the action bar in order to promote a consistent Android user experience.

Samsung Galaxy Note Coming To AT&T 19th February For $299

We recently heard a rumor that the Samsung Galaxy Note would land on AT&T on the 18th of February, AT&T has just announced the official launch date, and the Galaxy Note will be available with AT&T from the 19th of February 2012.

AT&T will be charging $299.99 for the Samsung Galaxy Note when you sign up to a new two year agreement with the carrier, and the AT&T version comes with LTE.

Nokia Symbian Belle Update Coming 8th February?

It looks like we may have a date for the release of the Symbian Belle update from Nokia,  as Nokia Vietnam announced that the update will be released on the 8th of February 2012.

The page has since been removed from the Nokia Vietnam website, but not before a number of people managed to capture a screen shot of the announcement.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y470p Notebook Announced

Lenovo has added another new notebook to its range with the launch of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y470p, which is an updated version of the Y470 with improved graphics.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y470p comes with an AMD Radeon HD 7690 1GB graphics card and it features a 14 inch LED backlit display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

IdolPad $100 Android Tablet Now Available (video)

Idolian have announced this week that they are now shipping their new IdolPad Android tablet, which is priced at just $100. The Idolian IdolPad Android tablet is equipped with an unnamed 1GHz Cortex-A9 CPU, supported by 512 MB RAM, 4GB Flash, and fitted with a microSD card slot and WiFi connectivity.

Asus Working On Transformer Prime Update For Lock Up Issues

A number of owners of the Asus Transformer Prime tablet have been reporting issues with the tablet since the release of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Transformer Prime.

Asus Padfone To Launch At MWC 2012

Nook Tablet Locked Bootloader Circumvented Using Just An SD Card (video)

Barnes & Noble hoped to stop modders being able to side load applications on to their by releasing a new software update to their Nook tablet that was created to make the process hard to carry out. Sony Nypon LT22i To Be Called Sony Xperia P?

Sony has already announced the Sony Xperia S, and we have seen some details on the Sony Xperia U, now it looks like the Sony LT22i Nypon that we saw a while back will be called the Sony Xperia P.

The device will apparently look very similar to the Sony Xperia S, although it will be based on the NovaThor U8500 chipset, and the device is also expect to feature a qHD display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels.

A new Linux tablet has been announced, the Spark which will retail for $265 and will run the KDE Plasma Active interface, the tablet was announced by KDE plasma Active team member Aaron Seigo.

The Spark tablet comes with a 1GHz AMLogic processor, with Mali 400 graphics and it features a 7 inch capacitive multi-touch touchscreen display, plus 512GB of RAM.

Adobe Reveals Sneak Peek Of New Photoshop CS6 Features (video)

The Worlds First Lego Astronaut (Video)

Two Canadian teenagers have managed to send the worlds first Lego astronaut into space, with a budget of just $400 they managed to send a Lego Minifig out to the edge of space at a height of 85,000 feet.

This was done using a weather balloon which they purchased for $85, a Styrofoam box with some gel hand warmers, and some point and shoot cameras, have a look at the video of the worlds first Lego man in space below.

Mass Effect Texture Mod Improves Main Character Detail Four Fold

Any gamers looking to run back through the first and second Mass Effect games might be interested to learn that a new texture mod has been created that will allow you to add extra details to the graphics of the main characters.

The new Mass Effect texture mod has been created by JeanLuc761, which has been developed with the sole purpose of improving select textures (mostly for characters) in Mass Effect 1 and 2. When the game was released, character textures ranged from a resolution of 512×512 to 1024×1024. See a comparison of the old and new textures after the jump.

Google, Microsoft And Facebook And More Join Forces to Tackle Phishing Emails

15 companies including Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo and PayPal have joined forces to try and combat Phishing scams via email. The partnership has created a new antiphishing standard called Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance DMARC.org.

The new standard has been created to provide a system for verifying e-mails are originating from legitimate companies and not impostors trying to trick Internet users into clicking a phishing link. Providing companies with a legitimate way to communicate with their customers.

Barnes & Noble To Launch New Nook This Spring

LG Optimus L3 E400 Budget Android Smartphone Leaked

Over the weekend Paradox Interactive has released a new demo for its recently launched King Arthur II – The Role-playing Wargame. The new demo allows gamers to play through the title's tutorial and first mission, equalling around 60 minutes of gameplay, giving you a taste of whats in the full game.

999 Players Enjoy Massive Man vs Machine FPS Battle (video)

Over the weekend 999 gamers joined forces to play in the Swedish network technology company Pikkotekk’s world record attempt. Which was created to recruit a 1000 players to battle it out against each other in their custom built Man vs Machine first person shooter game.

Unfortunately Pikkotekk didn’t quite make the 1000 they hoped for but after the success of the weekends gaming, PikkoServer, say “Our goal now is to make this technology available to developers worldwide”. Command and Conquer FPS Renengade X: Black Dawn Launches (video)

Renegade-X: Back Dawn is a free First Person Shooter (FPS), being developed by Totem Arts; a group of volunteers committed to bringing the Command and Conquer FPS experience to the current iteration of the Unreal Engine. Black Dawn is a short singleplayer campaign, that was released on January 28th 2012, ahead of the upcoming multiplayer release.

Reneagde X is an updated versions go the game original multiplayer experience which was created in Unreal Tournament 3, and has been available for sometime. The development of Black Dawn has given Totem Arts the opportunity to update much of the outdated game code used in the Unreal Tournament version of the game.

Samsung To Launch New Galaxy Tab Tablet AT MWC 2012?

Samsung will be showing off a range of new smartphones at MWC 2012, we still don’t know whether they will unveil the new Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, but it looks like they will launch a new Galaxy Tab tablet.

According to a recent report Samsung will introduce the next generation Galaxy Tab tablet at MWC 2012, and the device is rumored to features a dual core 2GHz Exynos 5250 processor.

Habey Unveils BIS-6630 Fanless Embedded System (video)

Habey USA has this week launched its new BIS-6630 fanless Cedar Trail embedded system, which is equipped with wither an Intel Atom N2800 (1.83 GHz) or D2700 (2.13 GHz), depending on your preferences.

Measuring just 7.5 x 7.5 x 2.5 inches the new BIS-6630 fanless small form factor PC is equipped with 6 x USB ports, 6 x COM ports, a VGA port, a DVI-D port, and support for a 2.5-inch SATA drive with the option to use mSATA. Together with connectivity via Gigabit Ethernet one SIM socket for 3G/4G connectivity and WiFi via two Mini-PCIe slots, using just 12w of power.

Motorola RAZR Developer Edition With Unlocked Bootloader Announced

Motorola has announced that their are releasing a developer edition of the Motorla RAZR, which is basically a fully unlockable version of the Motorola RAZR, and the device will be released in Europe initially.

The Motorola RAZR Developer Edition will also be available in the US through MOTODEV, although Motorola hasn’t released any information on when either device will be available.

Sony And Ericsson’s $1.47 Billion Buyout Deal Approved By EU

Sony announced back in October that they would be buying Ericsson out of their Sony Ericsson joint smartphone venture for a total of $1.47 Billion, Sony would then re-brand its mobile phones under the ‘Sony’ brand.

It looks like the $1.47 billion buyout had now been approved by the European regulators on the 26th of January, and this will mean that Sony now has full control of its mobile phone division and also the patents that go with it.
