Posted: 12 Jan 2012 11:46 AM PST

How awesome would it be if some of the stuff from Star Trek was real? I’d like to just be able to beam back and forth from the grocery store. It would also be cool if the doctor didn't need to take blood to find out why you don't feel good. This is where the Qualcomm Tricorder X Prize comes in.

Turns out that the cosplayer pictured below has garnered enough laughs to go viral. Real name is unknown and as for his, er, cretaion–like they say, there’s no accounting for good taste.

Uh Oh: Doomsday Clock Is Set To Almost-Doomsday

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 10:40 AM PST

On Wednesday the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists (BAS) moved their symbolic Doomsday Clock a minute closer to midnight, which should get people nervous if this were still the Cold War. However, in absence of a possible nuclear showdown, the worrying move was supposed to shine a light on contemporary issues. The first is the BAS’ age-old concern over nuclear proliferation, which it thinks has not received enough action other than promises among nuclear states. The second bone it wishes to pick is climate change–unless global industry changes course, BAS claims within five years a whole lot of awful is coming humanity’s way.
