Samsung has launched a new version if its massively popular Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone for Japan, the Samsung Galaxy S II WiMax which will be available with Japan’s KDDI au.

The new Samsung Galaxy S II WiMAX comes with new specifications over the original Galaxy S II handset, and it features a 4.7 inch Super AMOLED HD display.

MiVeu iPhone Case Transforms Your Smartphone Into A Rugged POV Camera (video)

Miveu has unveiled a new system at CES this month that has been designed to transform your iPhone into a rugged POV system. It has been specifically designed with a custom optical glass lens. Extending the viewing angle of the iPhone to record video from the an amazing perspective that would otherwise not be available.

The custom lens is attached to the iPhone using a rugged customised case, which incorporates a simple tactile shutter button providing easy operation even when wearing thick gloves. Watch the promotional video after the jump to see it in action.

Pantech In Talks With Microsoft Over Android Patents

Last week we heard that Microsoft had signed a new patent deal relating to Google’s Android OS with smartphone maker LG, which was reported to bring the agreements that Microsoft has with Android manufacturers close to 70 percent of all the Android devices produced.

Now it would appear that another Android hardware manufacturer is in talks with Microsoft, Pantech has revealed that is is having discussions with Microsoft on whether it should pay Microsoft a royalty on patents the company holds relating to Android.

Toshiba Portege M930 Slider Laptop Revealed, Ahead Of Official Launch

Toshiba has yet to officially announced their new Portege M930 slider laptop, but Microsoft has already been showcasing the new sliding laptop at CES this month. Giving us an easily glimpse of the new Toshiba slier laptop and its features.

The Toshiba Portege M930 is similar in design to the Asus Eee Pad slider laptop, launched at CES last year. But as you would expected detailed specifications for the new system are still very thin on the ground until any official announcement has been made by Toshiba.

Motorola Droid 3 Dropped To $99

With Verizon about to launch the new Motorola Droid 4, they have decided to drop the price of the Motorola Droid 3 before the new model goes on sale, and the device can now be had for $99 when you sign up to a new two year contract with Verizon.

As a reminder the Motorola Droid 3, which originally went on sale last June comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and it features a 4 inch qHD touchscreen display.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Gets Unboxed, Compared To Other Galaxy Tab Tablets (Video)

Samsung’s latest Android tablet is the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, and now we get a look at the new Galaxy Tab 7.7 compared to some of Samsung’s other Galaxy Tab tablets which include the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

As a reminder the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 comes with Android 3.2 Honeycomb and it features a 7.7 inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

Massive Lego Saturn V Rocket Stands 19ft Tall, Uses 120,000 Lego Pieces

Here on Geeky Gadgets we have featured a number of fairly large Lego creations, but they all look very small compared to their monster 19 ft tall Saturn V Rocket.

Nokia, Microsoft And EA To Bring New Games To Windows Phone (Video)

Microsoft has announced that it will be bringing a range of new games to its Window Phone platform, plus a range of games in conjunction with both Electronic Arts and Nokia and the games are expected to be available in February.

Some of the titles announced for Windows Phone include Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction and Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp.

Trax MkII Concept Watch Uses Tracks To Tell The Time

A new concept watch submitted to the TokyoFlash website this week called the Trax Mark II, has a very unique way to display the time, using a belt system of tracks, inspired by military hardware.

The time on the Trax Mark II concept watch is told by either three of four tracks. With the hours positioned on the right hand side and minutes on the left hand side of the watch face, if you can call it that.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Suffering From Random Reboot Bug?

It looks like owners of Google’s flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus are experiencing another problem with their new Android Ice Cream Sandwich device.

There have been a number of reports of a bug that causes the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to randomly reboot and the problem appears to be happening to owners of both the GSM version and the LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus.

SIM Free BlackBerry Bold 9790 Lands In The UK

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 was announced last November, and the device is expected to be available with a number of the mobile carriers here in the UK some time this month.

We just got an email from the guys over at Clove to let us know that they now have a SIM free version of the BlackBerry Bold 9790 available in the UK, and the handset is retailing for £330 including taxes.

Intel Windows 8 Tablets To Cost Between $599 And $899?

We are expecting to see the first Windows 8 tablets some time later this year, and now according to a recent report by Digitimes, Windows 8 based tablets which run on Intel’s Clover Trail hardware are expected to retail between $599 and $899.

The report says that the tablets may be priced this high as both Intel and Microsoft are unwilling to drop their related hardware and software prices for the devices, which would mean the manufacturers would have to charge these higher prices.

i’m Circle Hopes To Become The First Wireless, Multi-device, Single Processor System (video)

We have already featured the i’m Watch here on Geeky Gadgets but now its creators I’m are looking to create an even more revolutionary new device called the i’m Circle. Which sounds fantastic in theory but might prove a little harder to implement in to real life.

The idea is to eliminate overlapping technology in our everyday devices and put them into one central device, for all of them to use. Nokia Lumia 900 With 12 Megapixel Camera Headed To Other Carriers (Rumor)

Earlier today we heard that the Nokia Lumia 900, which is Nokia’s first LTE enabled Windows Phone smartphone would be available with US mobile carrier AT&T in March.

AT&T seems to have an exclusive deal with Nokia for the Lumia 900 in the US, and now there are reports that the Lumia 900 will be headed to other carriers in quarter three of 2012.

SoulCalibur 5 Story Mode : The Theater of History, Trailer Released (Video)

Following on from the news that SoulCalibur will be arriving on Apple’s iOS devices later this month. Developers Namco Bandai of SoulCaliber 5 have this week released a new trailer for the story mode side of the game which provides a little insight in to the storyline you can expect from the game. Soul Calibur Headed To iPhone And iPad January 19th

Namco Bandai have announced that they will be releasing Soul Calibur for Apple’s iOS devices on the 19th of January 2012, and the game will be compatible with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4G and the iPad 2.

The original Soul Calibur was released as an arcade game back in 1998, and it was also available for consoles like the Sega Dreamcast and also Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

Four Player Ping Pong Table Adds A Unique Twist

There are always new variations of well known games being created, but this new one takes the traditional table tennis table and splits it into four, and throws in a few rules from billiards to add another unique twist to the game.

Samsung To Merge Bada OS With Tizen

As well as producing a number o0f popular Android and Windows Phone devices, Samsung also produces a range of smartphones which run its own Bada OS.

Now it would appear that Samsung has some new plans for its Bada OS, and Samsung has told Forbes that it plans to merge it Bada OS with Tizen, which is a joint operating system project between Samsung an Intel.

Notion Ink Releases Alpha Android 4.0.3 For Their Adam Tablet (Video)

Notion Ink has released an Alpha build of Android 4.0.3 for the Notion Ink Adam tablet, which comes two weeks after the company released the first pre-alpha version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich for the Adam tablet.

The new Android 4.0.3 Alpha release brings a number of bug fixes and features to the Adam tablet, plus a range of features are now enabled on the device which include Bluetooth,  audio, GPS and more.

Windows 8 ARM Devices Will Ship With Locked Bootloader

Anyone hoping to be able to run a couple of different operating systems on the new range of ARM powered Windows 8 tablet arriving later this year. Might be disappointed to learn that the bootloader options on the ARM Windows 8 tablets will be locked by default, and will come with no unlock switch.

Microsoft explains that it will require any ARM devices running a client version of Windows 8, to ship with a secure boot enabled. The Secure Boot featured on the devices will require signed keys to allow operating systems to boot. Disabling the ability for owners to be able to install multiple operating systems if desired.

Sony Xperia S In Action (Video)

Earlier today we heard that the Sony Xperia S would be available in the UK in March, and now we have a video of the new Sony Xperia S in action, and the device looks pretty impressive from the video.

The Xperia S features a 4.3 inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, processing is provided by a dual core 1.5GHz processor and it will also feature 32GB of storage.

Asus Releases Statement About Transformer Prime Availability In The UK

Last week Asus announced that their Transformer Prime tablet would be available in the UK from last Thursday, and the company said that it would be in stock at a number of stores as well as online stores.

There was just one problem with the announcement from Asus, nobody was able to get their hands on the Transformer Prime tablet in the UK, and people who had pre-ordered the device from companies like Amazon were also told that their pre-orders were not available yet.

Powerpukk Water Powered Smartphone Charger (video)

A new mobile charging system has been unveiled this week at CES called the Powerpukk, which has been developed by Swedish firm myFC who has created the PowerTrekk charging system, SiGNa who has designed the PowerPukk charger. The new type of charging device uses just water and a non toxic chemical called sodium silicide to create hydrogen gas which then powers the fuel cell.

The PowerPukk charger is equipped with hockey puck sized cartridge of sodium silicide on one side and a water tray on the other. Simple add a couple of spoonfuls of water to start the power up process to charge your devices. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

ViewSonic announced a new Android smartphone at CES this year, the ViewSonic ViewPhone 3, which will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features dual SIM card slots.

Multi-Touch Glass Keyboard Shown Off At CES, Headed To Production

Back in November we featured a Multi-touch glass keyboard and mouse that had been designed by Jason Giddings and David Rogers, the pair were trying to raise $50,000 via Kickstarter to put the device into production.

It turns out that they managed to raise over $140,000 for their project, and have now shown off a prototype of the keyboard at this years CES, which you can see in the photo below.

Life Size Edible Stormtrooper Cake

We have featured plenty of weird and wonderful geeky cakes on Geeky Gadgets over the year. But this awesome full sized edible Stormtrooper cake has to be the largest we have featured.

The life size edible Stormtrooper cake has been created and baked by Oak Leaf Cakes, for the Arisia Science Fiction Convention in Boston, and measure a massive 6ft 4 inches in height. It took ten people two full weeks to make the cake and put all the pieces together.

Nissan Announces Self Repairing iPhone Case

Nissan is better know for making cars than it is for making smartphone accessories, but the company has announced that it will be introducing a new range of self repairing iPhone cases called the Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone cases.

According to the announcement, the iPhone case uses special paint technology that is capable of repairing itself which Nissan calls self healing paint, and this paint is already used in a number of Nissan vehicles.

Liquid Image Ego HD Video Camera For Extreme Sports Fans

White Samsung Galaxy Nexus Poses For The Camera

We recently heard that Samsung would be releasing a white version of their Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0 smartphone, and now we have some actual pictures of the device, which you can see below.

Ortery Technologies has unveiled a new 3D Pure white Photography system at CES this month. Which Ortery say is the worlds first system to create 360 degree Flash/HTML 5 animations with a pure white background.

iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak In Action (Video)

Last week we heard that the iPhone Dev Team were getting closer to releasing the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and the iPad, the jailbreak has been available for Apple’s A4 processor based devices for a while.

The iPhone Dev Team have been working to bring the untethered jailbreak to Apple’s A5 processor based devices, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, and the video below shows the jailbreak in action on an iPhone 4S.

LifeBook Concept Combines Camera, Smartphone, Tablet and Notebook

We have featured a number of different concepts here on Geeky Gadgets for combining devices together, and Asus have taken the idea mainstream with the Asus Padfone. Which combines a smartphone and tablet together into one unit to share processing power and features.

Designer Prashant Chandra has taken the concept one stage further and incorporates , a camera, smartphone, tablet and notebook in to one device. Enabling them to all to share features and processing power and be charged and synced at the same time.

Samsung Unveils New Blu-ray Players With UltraViolet Cloud Access

At CES last week Samsung featured their new line of Blue-ray players with UltraViolet Cloud acess which use technology developed by Flixster and Rovi. Enabling users to import they’re existing Blu-ray and DVD collections from participating studios into the UltraViolet Cloud.

The UltraViolet Cloud is the “buy-once, play-anywhere” technology that a collection of Hollywood studios and technology companies developed last year. Enabling users to watch their media on a wide range of compatible devices, and will initially be available using the Flixster application on Samsung’s Smart Hub.

Texas Instruments Shows Off OMAP 5 Android 4.0 Reference Design

We recently saw a demo of a Windows 8 Tablet from Texas Instruments which is running on their OMAP 4 processor and now the company has shown off a new Android 4.0 reference design which is based on their new OMAP 5 processor.

The new reference design was shown off at this years CES, and Texas Instruments will start sampling the new OMAP 5 processors to manufacturers shortly.

Google And LG Working To Build Google ‘Nexus’ TV Device?

Google already produces flagship models of its smartphones when it release a major new version of Android, which have been released under the Nexus name, with the latest one being the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which was released with Android 4.0.

Now it would appear that Google is considering doing a same thing with its Google TV platform, and it is reported to be in talks with LG who would produce the Google ‘Nexus’ TV for the release of Google TV 3.0.

HTC Ville Headed To T-Mobile?

We first heard about the HTC Ville, which is possibly one of the first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphones from HTC, back in November of last year.

The HTC Ville has yet to be officially announced by HTC, but now it looks like this new HTC ICS smartphone will be announced at MWC 2012 in Barcelona next month, and it is reported to be headed to T-Mobile.

Sony Xperia S Goes Up For Pre-order, Lands In The UK In March

Sony recently announced their first smartphones under the Sony brand, which will take over from their previous smartphone brand of Sony Ericsson, and one of those devices is the Sony Xperia S.

Now it looks like the Sony Xperia S will be available in the UK from March, as one online retailer has put up a SIM free version of the smartphone for pre-order, and the device will be available for £467.99 SIM free including taxes.

Nokia Lumia 900 Lands On AT&T In March

Nokia recently announced its first LTE Windows Phone smartphone for the US, the Nokia Lumia 900, which the company unveiled at CES earlier this month.

When the Nokia Lumia 900 was announced we were told that the new Windows Phone smartphone would be headed to US mobile carrier AT&T, although at the time of the announcement we were not given any details on a release date.

So there’s a company called D-Wave Systems over in Canada who are pushing the envelope with this whole Quantum computing stuff. It’s among the farthest technological frontiers of our time and like most cutting edge territories, it’s hard to understand. But this hasn't kept news of a breakthrough from spreading. It turns out a qubit-powered quantum computer made by D-Wave did an impressive calculation recently, garnering much commented attention.

What makes thrombin awesome is it's a natural coagulant, which means it’s responsible for arresting blood flow—somehow. Don’t expect thrombin to work miracles though. Epic Open Source Program To Improve Raven II Surgical Robots
