Doom Calculator Mod Now Available In Colour (video)

If you were impressed with the Skyrim calculator mod we featured yesterday here on Geeky Gadgets. You might also enjoy this new calculator modification that allows you to play the iD Doom game in glorious colour.

Unfortunately the Doom modification is still currently under development and at the moment doesn’t have any sound support available for the game. Check out the video of the Texas Instruments TI-nspire CX calculator equipped with OS 3.1 and Ndless 3 running the Doom game.

Minimalist Flaca LED Lamp Is Created From Single Steel Sheet

Many products available use a lot of resources to be created, but one LED lamp is fighting back on wasteful usage, and has been created using just a single thin sheet of steel. The minimalist design of the Flaca LED lamp has used the thin steel sheet to create a number of hinged panels which allows the lamp to extend up from the desktop.

The environmentally friendly design of the LED lamp has only used materials it needs and nothing more, with very little wastage from the sheet. The Flaca LED lamp has been designed by Mexican designers Masiosare Studio, in the lamp apt name “Flaca” means skinny in Spanish.

Asus Announces B23E Business Notebook

Skyrim 1.4 Update Detailed By Bethesda

Earlier this week we brought you news that Skyrim developers Bethesda were readying a new 1.4 update for the game, which was hoped to bring fixes to the lag issues being experienced by a number of PlayStation 3 gamers. Bethesda has now released more information about their up-and-coming Skyrim 1.4 update which is expected to arrive before the end of the month.

Bethesda have revealed that their new Creation Kit and Steam Workshop are also nearly ready to roll out before the months end, and both Bethesda and Valve developers have been working closely together to remove last-minute issues and carry out final testing before release.

Angry Birds Seasons Year Of The Dragon Released (Video)

Rovio Mobile has released a new update for their Angry Birds Seasons game, the update is called Year of the Dragon, and it has been released to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Toolbox BoomBox (video)

Are you looking for a more original speaker system? If you are and have a little spare time this weekend you, might like to create your very own Toolbox BoomBox, which has been designed and built by Floyd Davis IV.

Floyd explained that he has equipped his Toolbox Boombox with a Pyle Pro stereo amplifier, together with speakers bought second hand from a thrift shop. The speakers are mounted onto a plywood sheet which has then been mounted in to the toolbox with the amplifier. Check out the video after the jump to see the making of the Toolbox Boombox.

Samsung Galaxy Note Update Brings New Features

Samsung has released an update for their Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone, and the update brings a range of new features to the Samsung Galaxy Note which are designed to improve the device.

The Galaxy Note’s keyboard gets upgraded in the update and the new keyboard now shows five rows of keys as well as the number row, which means you wont have to switch between keyboard like you had to before.

BASF And Philips Develop Solar Powered OLED Sun Roof

BASF and Philips have developed a new prototype solar powered sunroof designed for cars, the technology has been developed using OLED panels which have been combines with transparent solar cells.

The idea is that the sunroof will let in light during the days and also charges the solar cells at the same time, and at night time the panels turn into a light and are powered by the electricity which was stored earlier.

Microsoft Acknowledges Colour Issues With Last Xbox 360 Update, Fix On its Way

Xbox 360 gamers who have been experiencing colour issues on their displays after installing the last update rolled out by Microsoft. Will be pleased to know that Microsoft has now acknowledged the existence of issue with the colorspace on some Xbox video applications. Microsoft announced the acknowledgement via Twitter this morning, and has said they are currently working on a fix, but as yet no date or timescale has been set.

Samsung NX200 RS Retro Camera Leaked?

Samsung announced their NX200 compact system camera back in September of last year, and now it looks like the company is about to reveal a new model, the Samsung NX200 RS, which is reported to come with a retro design.

The specifications on the Samsung NX200 RS are expected to be the same as the original NX200, it will feature a new design with a silver top plate which is designed to give it a retro look, the first photo below is of the new RS version.

MuchDifferent Planning 1000 Player World Record Breaking FPS Shootout On Jan 29th (video)

Any first person shooter gamers that might be interested in taking part in setting a new world record. Will be interested to learn that the Swedish non-profit company MuchDifferent, who is dedicated to the development of over-the-top technology. Is planning to organise a game of “Man vs Machine” that will include 1000 FPS gamers on January 29 at 4.00 Central European Time.

The setup that will be used to run the game will consist of eight single threaded servers running Unity, which is the development platform and game engine for browsers that will be powering the FPS game.

Sony Walkman B170 MP3 Player Announced

Sony has added another MP3 player to its Walkman range with the launch of the Sony Walkman B170, which as you can see from the photos is designed to be small and portable.

The Sony Walkman B170 measures 88.8 mm by 22.5 mm by 15.0mm and it weighs in at just 28g, it comes with a choice of 2GB or 4GB of built in storage which  is enough to store around 970 songs on the 4GB model.

Google+ Reaches 90 Million Users

As well as announcing their latest figures on Android, Google also revealed some details on their new social network, Google+ in their recent earnings call, and Google+ now has over 90 million users around the world.

Google opened up Google+ to everyone just four months ago, the last figure we heard on Google+ number was back in December, where we heard that that Google+ had around 62 million users, although these figures were estimated.

The other day we heard that Namco Bandai would be releasing Soul Calibur for Apple’s iOS devices, which include the iPhone and iPad, the games is now available from the iTunes app store at $11.99, this is apparently a launch discount price which will be increased to $14.99.

Soul Calibur was originally released as an arcade machine back in 1988 and it has also be available on consoles including the Sega Dreamcast and  Xbox 360.

Google’s Android Market Hits 11 Billion Downloads

Google has releases its fourth quarter earnings results for 2011, and along with the release comes some new on Google’s Android OS, most notable is that Google’s Android Market has now reached a massive 11 billion downloads.

Resident Evil 6 Coming November 2012 (Video)

Capcom has announced the latest installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 6 will will launch on the 20th of November 2012 in the US and Europe and the 223nd of November in Japan.

The release dates given are for the console versions of Resident Evil 6, and it will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, it is also coming to the PC although Capcom have not given an exact release date for the PC version.

Apple Launches iTunes U iPad And iPhone App

As well as unveiling their new iBooks 2 and iBooks Author Apple has also launched an app of its iTunes U service for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, and the application is designed to work in the same way that iTunes U does on the Mac or PC.

The iTunes U application provides students with educational content from top universities, and it gives them access to complete course materials, and this information is now available through the app on Apple’s range of iOS devices.

LG Spectrum 4G LTE Lands On Verizon

LG and Verizon recently announced their latest Android smartphone, the LG Spectrum 4G LTE and now the handset is available on Verizon Wireless for $199.99 when you sign up to a new two year contract with the carrier.

The LG Spectrum comes with support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network and it features a 4.5 inch HD display, the display comes with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which means it can display HD videos and content in 720p.
