Google Adds Fun New Meme Text Feature To Google+

Today Google has rolled out a new fun feature to its Google+ social network that now allows users to add text to images. Enabling them to create their very own Memes directly within Google+.

Google has made it extremely easy to add text to a images. Simply drop an image in to the “Sharebox” on Google+, then click the “Add text” and your away. If you a Google+ user brace yourself for a tidal wave of images covered in text trying to be the next global meme.

NES Controller Hacked To Play iCade iPad Games

If you have any NES controllers lying around and enjoy a little gaming, you might be interested in this new hack that has been created by Paul Rickards. Who has taken a standard NES controller and modified it to work on the iCade games on the iPad.

Rickards admits the hack happened as a accident, while playing around with iMAME on his iPad together with his homebrew Commodore 64 keyboard. Which is connected to his iPad via a modded USB connection, he accidentally struck a key. Which then prompted iMAME to say “enabling iCade mode”.=

Syndicate Co-op Demo Arriving This Month (video)

Gamers looking to give Syndicate’s Co-op mode a play, will be pleased to learn that today EA has announced they will be launching a Syndicate Co-op demo. That will be arriving at the end of this month on both PSN and Xbox Live.

The new demo will allow four players to join forces and enjoy an early taste of the new Syndicate game which is currently being developed by Starbreeze Studios. Unfortunately for gamers in Australia the demo will not be available, due to the Syndicate game being refused classification by the Australian Classification Board.

WristQue Wristband Has Been Designed To Control Your Smart Surroundings

MIT researchers Have been working on a new concept wristband called the WristQue, which has been created to allow you to interact with smart building. While wearing the new wristband if you enter a smart building it will be able to track your location from room to room, and if you feel a little cold you will be able to automatically change the rooms thermometer by pressing buttons on the WristQue.

MIT researchers Joe Paradiso and Brian Mayton began the project in October. The project is still in the very early stages of development, and it is hoped that it can be developed to provide even more interactivity in the future. Including motion gestures which will be able to control TVs and computers.

Nokia Lumia 710 Now Available For Free In The US

Nokia recently launched their first Windows Phone smartphone in the US, the Nokia Lumia 710, and the device has been available with mobile carrier T-Mobile for $49.99 when you sign up to a new two year contract with the carrier.

The device hasn’t been available for very long in the US, and it scheduled to launch in the UK next month, now one US retailer has already decided to drop the price of the device and is giving it away free when you sign up to a new two year contract with T-Mobile.

Sega Brings The Olympics Games 2012 To Your Console, With Kinect And Move Support (video)

Sega has announced the release date for its official Olympic 2012 video game today, that will support both Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Kinect device and Sony’s PlayStation 3 motion controllers.

The new motion controls will be available to use in a number of sporting events within the game including 110m Hurdles, Beach Volleyball (Kinect only) and 25m Rapid Fire Pistol (Move only).

Facebook Open Graph Actions To Be Officially Announced Tomorrow?

Facebook has already officially rolled out its new Timeline and Ticker as part of its Open Graph revamp. Now it looks possible that Facebook may be unveiling its new Open Graph Actions feature, that it will be adding to its new re-design according to the AllThingsD website.

The announcement by Facebook may be made as early as tomorrow, with Facebook unveiling their new service which enables apps made by outside developers, to "frictionlessly" and continuously share Facebook users' actions. Once a user has given permission to the application to do so.

RIM To Launch Two New Playbook Tablets In 2012?

RIM launched its first tablet last year, the BlackBerry PlayBook, which hasn’t had the best response and has been met with disappointing sales for RIM, which has led the company to recently drop the price of the tablet.

According to a recent report from N4BB, RIM isn’t giving up on its PlayBook tablet, instead the company will introduce two new PlayBook tablets before the end of 2012.

Huawei Ascend P1 With LTE And Larger Battery On The Way?

Huawei recently announced their latest Android smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P1, and now according to a recent report the company may be about to release an LTE enable version of the P1 along with a larger capacity battery.

Brick Concept Smartphone Features Fully Transparent Screen (video)

We have featured a number of new technologies here on Geeky Gadgets that have started to incorporate transparent displays, Such as the Samsung Smart Window. Now designers Shaocheng Huang & Yuyin Huang have imagined what it would be like to have a transparent screen on your smartphone.

Then you concept smartphone called the Brick, is equipped with a large transparent screen which can be used for a number of different applications. Including being able to translate or magnify text. Star Trek fans will love the latest invention for the guys over at Think Geek, the Star Trek Door Chime which is designed to replace you standard door bell with something a little more geeky.

The Star Trek door chime is motion sensitive so when someone walks past it our approaches it, the door chime will play one of two sounds, which include the door opening sound from Star Trek and also an alarm sound.

Apple Files Lawsuit Against Samsung In Germany Related To 10 Smartphones

Apple and Samsung are engaged in a number of different patent lawsuits around the world, the most recent one being the case of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany.

Last year Apple managed to get sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned in Germany, Samsung changed the design of the device and it recently went on sale in Germany.

Adobe Flash And Air Update Fixes Android 4.0 Compatibility Issues

Adobe has rolled out a new update to its Adobe Flash and Air products this week, which brings with it fixes for compatibility issues within Google’s Android 4.0 operating system.

It’s good to see that even though Adobe have stopped developing their mobile Flash product, it’s still developing and releasing updates. The new updates fix a number of bugs and provide a variety of new enhancements to devices running Android 4.0.

Indie Game Q.U.B.E Sells 12,000 Copies In Just Four Days, Repaying Its Indie Funds Investment In Full

The first Indie funded game called Q.U.B.E developed by Toxic Games has announce that in just its first four days, its been able to sell over 12,000 copies and pay back the full investment amount back to Indie Fund.

Toxic GAmes first introduced Indie Fund to heir Q.U.B.E. game in late August of 2010 with an estimated budget of $42k. Indie Fund approved the game for funding about 2 months later. Last week the new Q.U.B.E game was launched on to Steam and has had an impressive start.

DeviceFidelty NFC Enabled microSD Card For iPhone Announced

Many of the new smartphones that are being released at the moment are coming with NFC (near field communications) built in, Apple’s iPhone doesn’t have NFC and we have already seen a couple of different cases that will bring NFC to the iPhone.

A company called DeviceFidelity Inc has developed an NFC based microSD card slot, that will bring NFC capabilities to Apple’s iPhone, the microSD card is used in conjunction with a special case for the iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy S II HD Headed To The UK?

Samsung has launched a HD version of their Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone in other countries around the world, we are yet to see one launch here in the UK although that may be about to change.

One online retailer, MobiCity has a listing on their website for a Samsung Galaxy S II HD, it looks like the listing has now been removed, but you can see the second photo below which was taken from their website by the guys from MoDaCo.

Max Payne 3 Launch Delayed Until May

Rockstar Games has today announced that the launch of their new Max Payne 3 game, scheduled for March, has now unfortunately been delayed until May 2012.

Max Payne 3 is an upcoming third-person shooter video game in the Max Payne franchise published by Rockstar Games for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and is the first game in the series not to be developed by Finnish game developer Remedy Entertainment.

Motorola Defy+ JCB Edition Android Smartphone Announced

The Recoil Winder has been developed by David Alden, and have just started their journey on the Kickstarter website looking to make the jump from concept to production. The project up until now has been self-funded by Alden, but now the designer needs a little help to create the final production products. CyanogenMod 9 Music App For Android Announced

Haier Demos 55 Inch Wire Free 3D HDTV At CES

Back in September Haier announced the worlds first 55 inch wire free HDTV, which is capable of being running without any power wires, instead the power is transmitted to the HDTV wirelessly.

As well as the TV being powered wirelessly there are also no wires to connect any of your devices, like your satellite or cable box, Blu-ray player and more, instead these devices also connect to the TV without the need for wires using WHDI (wireless HDMI)

Gears Of War Pistol Created Using Just Paper

Building a replica gun from a computer game is hard enough in itself, without building it using just paper alone. However Gears Of War fan Leo Firebrand has used his paper crafting skills to create a replica of a pistol from the Gears Of War game.

The Gears Of War pistol is not the first paper craft creation Leo has constructed, and follows on from his earlier creation. Which was a laser pistol from the popular Fallout 3 game.

Asus Says No Transformer Prime 3G In The Works

There have been a number of reports over last few days that Asus would be releasing a 3G enabled version of their new Transformer Prime tablet, and now Asus has responded to the rumors.

Google Tests QR Login Feature For Gmail

Google is currently testing a new login feature for their Gmail users which now allows you to login to your Gmail account using a QR code rather than typing in your username and password.

The new logging feature is currently being tested by Google to make their Gmail service more secure for users who need to login to their mail account via public or potentially insecure Wi-Fi networks. Mercedes-Benz Demos DICE HUD Concept With Gesture Controls (Video)

Car maker Mercedes-Benz has sown off a new gesture controlled HUD (heads up display) at this years CES, the system is called DICE, which standard for Dynamic and Intuitive Control Experience.

The DICE system doesn’t have any buttons to control the system, instead it uses gestures and a range of proximity sensors which detect your movements and perform which task you want, have a look at the video of it in action below.

Samsung Galaxy Note Headed To Verizon As Galaxy Journal?

The Samsung Galaxy Note has been available in Europe for the last few months, the device was recently announced for AT&T in the US, and it is expected to be available within the next couple of weeks.

According to a recent report by the Examiner, the Samsung Galaxy Note is also headed to Verizon Wireless and Sprint  in the US and the device will be called the Samsung Galaxy Journal on those networks.

Asus Transformer TF101 Android 4.0 Update Awaiting Google’s Approval

Asus announced recently that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the original Transformer tablet,the Transformer TF101 would be available some time after the 12th of January.

We knew that Asus were working on the update for the Transformer TF101, but it would appear that Asus has now finished the update, and are waiting for it to be approved by Google.

Apple To Announce e-Book Tools At Education Event On 19th Of January

HP VantagePoint 132 Inch Multitouch Display Unveiled

HP has this week unveiled their new VantagePoint display which measures a massive 132 inches across its diagonal, and is capable of supporting up to 32 touch points simultaneously. The new ultrahigh resolution interactive wall has been designed by HP to provide an immersive interactive experience, allowing users to use videos together with local and online applications in addition to live web feeds.

The VantagePoint system has been created by combining 6 x HP LD4730G 47 inch Ultra-Micro Bezel displays and measures 11 feet wide by 7 feet high. The VantagePoint is connected to a high performance HP Z800 Workstation enabling it to handle even the heaviest audio and video loads and full on-screen interaction.

Asus Transformer Prime Suffering Android 4.0 ICS Update Issues

It would appear that some owners of the Asus Transformer Prime are reporting problems when they try to update to the latest version of Android, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

A number of users have been met with a message which says ‘unknown serial number’ when they try to apply the Android 4.0 ICS update to their Transformer Prime tablet.

Sony Releases Short Teaser Video For New DotSwitch Technology To Be Announced Next Month (video)

Sony has released a new teaser video this week which primes us with the news that Sony will be making an announcement on February 21st regards any new technology they have developed called DotSwitch.

The 30 second video clip released by Sony doesn’t provide any specific details on the new DotSwitch technology but shows a user with an Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc handset, triggering different multimedia devices.

iPad 3 References Discovered In iOS 5.1 Beta 3

We are expecting the new iPad 3 or iPad HD or whatever Apple decides to call the device to launch around March, and we have already heard plenty of rumors about the device.

Now a reference for a new iPad has been discovered in the latest developer build of Apple’s mobile OS, iOS 5.1 Beta 3, and there are two separate references which would be one for the iPad 3 WiFi and one for the iPad 3 WiFi and 3G.

Woz Thinks Android Is Ahead Of Apple

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has previously said that he likes Google’s mobile OS, Android and now according to a recent report, Woz thinks that Android is ahead of Apple’s iPhone and iOS.

Samsung SUR40 Microsoft Surface Starts Shipping

The Samsung SUR40 is the next generation Microsoft Surface device, it was announced last year and went up for pre-order back in November, and the Samsung SUR40 has now started shipping.

The Samsung SUR40 features a 40 inch multi-touch LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which means it is able to handle full high definition content in 1080p.
