Including acquisition of 188 granted patents and 29 published pending applications from IBM in its patent assignment database on Dec. 30, 2011 The most recent patent purchase follows on from the previous patent acquisitions bought by Google from IBM during July, August and September totally around 2,100. No details have been disclosed as to the details of the new patent purchase, but its expected that both Google and IBM will remain tight lipped about the proceedings that were sealed late last year. | Amazon Kindle Fire Silk Browser Ported To Other Android Devices Posted: 04 Jan 2012 04:58 AM PST Amazon’s Silk browser is exclusive to their Kindle Fire Android tablet, but now it would appear that some of the guys from the XDA developers have managed to port the Kindle Fire’s Silk browser to other Android devices. To use the Silk browser port on yo0ur Android device you will need to root your smartphone or tablet and also run CyanogenMod 7, and it appears to have worked with a number of devices so far.

| Samsung Series 5 Ultrabooks Go Up For Pre-order Posted: 04 Jan 2012 04:49 AM PST Samsung recently announced a new range of ultrabook notebooks, the Samsung Series 5, and now both models have appeared online for pre-order with retailer J&R, with the 13.3 inch version starting at $800 and the 14 inch version starting at $949. As a reminder the 14 inch model comes with up to 1TB of storage whilst the 13.3 inch model comes with up to 500GB of storage, or you can choose up to a 128GB solid state drive and a total of 8GB of RAM.

| Android Gingerbread Now On 55 Percent Of Android Devices Posted: 04 Jan 2012 04:13 AM PST Google has released its latest distribution figures for its Android platform, and Android Gingerbread is now on 55.5 percent of all Android devices, this is up from 50 percent in December. Android 2.2 Froyo is still in second place with 30.4 percent of Android devices, which is then followed by Android 2.1 Eclair at just 8.5 percent.

| Microsoft Suing UK Retailer Comet For Selling Counterfeit Copies Of Windows Posted: 04 Jan 2012 03:21 AM PST Microsoft has just announced that they are suing one of the UK’s largest electronics retailers, Comet, for allegedly selling counterfeit copies of their Windows software, in the form of Windows XP and Windows Vista. According to Microsoft, Comet produced and sold more than 94,000 counterfeit Windows Vista and Windows XP recovery CDs, and Microsoft has said that the alleged counterfeits were sold to customers who purchased Windows PCs and laptops.
