Alienware’s Gaming Laptops Get Latest Intel Ivy Bridge Processors

Alienware has announced that its range of gaming notebooks, which include the Alienware M14x, the M17x and M18 will be getting Intel’s new Ivy Bridge processors.

Prices will start at $1100 for the Alienware M14x, $1500 for the M17x and $2,000 for the M18x, and a number of different processor options will be available including a 2.9 GHz Core i7-3920XM for the M17x and 2.9GHz Core i7-3920XM for the new M18x.

UK Court Says The Pirate Bay Must Be Blocked By UK ISPs

A court in the UK has ruled that access to The Pirate Bay must be blocked by a number of ISPs here in the UK, the Internet Service Providers include Sky, Everything Everywhere, Talk Talk, O2 and Virgin Media.

The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) previously asked the ISPs in November of 2011 to block access to the site, but the ISPs said that they would only block access to the Pirate Bay if they were ordered to do so by a court order.

Intel Demos New NUC Motherboard That Fits In Your Hand

Intel has shown off a new tiny motherboard, much smaller than the previous mini-ITX system motherboards, called NUC or Next Unit of Computing, this tiny motherboard measures just 4 inches by 4 inches, this compares to the 6.7 inch by 6.7 inch size of the mini-ITX motherboards.

This new NUC motherboard will work with Intel’s Core i3 mobile processor, but could apparently also handle more powerful processors as long as the power consumption and heat generation isn’t too high.

More Details Leaked For Nintendo Wii U

Nintendo's upcoming Wii U console will launch some time later this year. We don’t have an official date, but now we have more details about Nintendo’s latest console thanks to a document from the folks over at N-Europe. The details center around the Project Cars game by Slightly Mad Studios and how the developer will be taking advantage of some of the console's features. It sounds like it will be a good console, with very versatile gameplay options.

Sprint Galaxy Nexus Having Data Problems, Fix On The Way?

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus recently launched on US mobile carrier Sprint, and it would appear that a number of owners of the device are having problems with data on Sprint’s network.

There seems to be quite a bit of talk about the issue over at the Sprint Community Forums, and according to a post by someone from Sprint, the company is aware of the issue and a fix is being worked on.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 pre-order cards confirm November 13 release date

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 to arrive. We still have a long way to go unfortunately, but now it looks like we have the November 13 release date confirmed, thanks to these pre-order cards. The official announcement of the game has not even happened yet, but rumor is it will happen tomorrow.

Skype For iOS Updated

Skype has released a new version of its app for Apple’s iOS platform, and the latest version of Skype for the iPhone and iPad comes with some new features as well as some performance enhancements.

There are some minor improvements to the user interface, and you can now move your own video preview around, plus there is a new sign in screen and the application will now automatically restart if it had previously shutdown unexpectedly.

Angry Birds Space Hits 50 Million Downloads

It looks like Rovio Mobile has another hit on their hands with the latest installment in the Angry Birds series, Angry Birds Space, as Rovio has announced that their latest game has hit 50 million downloads.

It took Rovio Mobile’s Angry Birds Space just 35 days to reach a massive 50 million downloads, and according to Rovio it is the fastest growing mobile game available at the moment.

We have featured a number of different USB drives here at Geeky Gadgets over the years, some fun ones, and some with added security to protect your data, the latest one falls into the latter category, the voice activated USB drive.

Samsung Galaxy S III With 4.8 Inch Display Leaked?

We have already seen a number of different photos of the new Samsung Galaxy S III Android smartphone, most of them have been in dummy boxes, which Samsung are using to stop the final design being leaked.

Now we have another photo, and if this one is real it confirms the rumored 4.8 inch display that we have heard previously that the new Samsung Galaxy S III may feature.

Panasonic And NHK’s New 145 Inch Ultra HDTV In Action (Video)

Pebble E-Paper Watch Raises $7 Million On Kickstarter

Some of our readers will remember the Pebble E-Paper watch that we featured on Geeky Gadgets earlier this month, it looks like it could end up being one of the most popular projects launched on Kickstarter.

The Pebble E-Paper Watch has now raised a massive $7,139,242 at the time of writing, not bad considering the developers of the watch only needed $100,000 to put it into production.

Samsung Series 7 CHRONOS 17 Notebook Announced

Samsung has added a new notebook to its range with the launched of the new Samsung Series 7 CHRONOS 17, the notebook features the latest Intel Core i7 quad core processors plus a 17 inch full HD display.

The 17 inch display comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and graphics is provided by an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 2GB GPU, and it features Samsung’s ‘FastStart’ which will apparently let you use the device in just two seconds.

No New Windows Phones Coming From LG, Focusing On Android Instead

According to a recent report by the Korea Herald, LG has announced that they have no plans to introduce any new Windows Phone smartphones, instead the company has decided to focus its efforts on Google’s Android platform.

LG was one of the first companies to launch a Windows Phone device, but it would appear that the partnership with Microsoft has not worked well for them financially.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Amaze 4G ad Sensation 4G Getting ICS Update Next Month

It looks like a couple of Android devices on T-Mobile’s network in the US will be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update in May, and the list includes the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II, the HTC Sensation 4G and the HTC Amaze 4G.

The guys over at TMO News have discovered that the three devices will be getting Android 4.0 in May, with the Samsung Galaxy S II being the first device with an apparent update release date of the 14th of May.

Microsoft Invests 300 Million In New Barnes & Noble eBooks Business

Barnes & Noble has struck a deal with Microsoft, where Microsoft will invest $300 million in a new joint venture between the two companies, and Barnes & Noble has announced that they have formed a new subsidiary of B&N which will include its Nook business and also its educational College business.

The new company will take a $300 million investment from Microsoft for a 17.6 percent share in the company, this values the new company at $1.7 billion.

Google Tells Court Galaxy Nexus Code Is Closed Like iPhone Code

In the latest lawsuit between Samsung and Apple, Apple have attempted to obtain the source code from Google on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Apple actually subpoenaed Google to give evidence in the case.

Google has now told the court the the source code for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is closed, just like Apple’s iPhone code, although Google’s Android platform is supposed to be an open source platform.

Google TV YouTube App Gets Updated

Google has released a new version of their YouTube application for Google TV devices, and the latest update is designed to improve video playback and also comes with some other performance enhancements.

BlackBerry 10 Development Phone Leaked

We have been hearing more and more about RIM’s new BlackBerry 10 devices over the last few weeks, and now it looks like we have a photo of a BlackBerry 10 development handset.

The photo below was released by the guys over at CrackBerry, who have said that this is a BlackBerry 10 Developer Alpha device, and the device will apparently be given out to attendees of the BlackBerry Jam this week.

KegDroid, The Android Controlled Beer Dispensing Android Mascot (Video)

Kegdroid is the creation of Paul Carff, and as you can see from the photo and video below, the Kegdroid is a giant Android mascot which can dispense you a nice cold pint of beer.

LG Cloud Service Announced

LG is the latest company to launch its on cloud based service, called LG Cloud, the service will offer the ability to stream content to your LG smartphone, tablet and compatible LG TV, and the service will also be available on PCs.

The LG Cloud will offer the ability to stream content using LG’s Real time Streaming Transcoding technology, which performs server based media conversion of content to make it compatible with whichever device you want to stream the content to.

Maingear Announces New Ivy Bridge Desktops

Google Releases FCC Street View Report

The FCC has now finished its investigation of Google’s Street View, the company came under scrutiny when it was found to be collecting users data whilst taking photos with its Street View cars.

According to Google the collection of private data was ‘inadvertent’, and the report blames a single rogue engineer for the collection of users personal data, although the engineer apparently declined to speak to the FCC during their investigation.

HTC One X Gets CyanogenMod 9 Port

HTC’s latest high end Android smartphone the HTC One X has just got a port of the new CyanogenMod 9, it comes in the way of an unnoficial port and most things on the device seem to be working.

According to the guys over at MoDaCo, the mobile network including calls and data plus SMS are working as well as Bluetooth and Bluetooth tethering, plus WiFi and the hardware video decoder.

Apple And Samsung CEOs Meeting In May To Discuss Settlement

Apple and Samsung are engaged in a number of different court cases around the world, with each company accusing the other of infringing on their patents, one of the cases is in the US, and now it looks like the two companies will be meeting up next month to discuss a possible settlement.

The judge in the latest case in the US recently ruled that the two companies should hold discussions, and this has now been scheduled for the 21st and 22and of May.

Nokia To Sell Off Vertu For 200 Million Euros?

According to a recent report by the Financial Times, Nokia is in discussions to sell of its luxury mobile phone brand, Vertu in a deal which is reported to be worth 200 million Euros.

Nokia’s Vertu branded mobile phones are high end devices not in terms of specifications, but what they are made from, gold and other precious metals, which retail for around $20,000.

Apple’s Mac App Store Hits 10,000 Apps

Apple launched their Mac App Store back in January of 2011, and now according to a recent report, the Mac App Store has hit a new milestone of 10,000 apps, although this has yet to be confirmed by Apple.

The news comes from two different third party sources who have estimated the amount of apps in the Mac App Store, and according to MacGeneration there are now more than 10,000 apps available to download.
