Amazon Starts Renting Textbooks To Students Via Kindle Posted: 18 Jul 2011 07:43 AM PDT Amazon has this week introduced a new rental system for students allowing them to now rent textbooks via Kindle devices rather than purchasing them and carrying the heavy textbooks about campus. Amazon rental service now allows students to rent books for a minimum of thirty days and save up to 80% off the print list price. If you need to rent the books for longer you can add additional days and pay the additional cost. The rental scheme is available on Kindle devices and devices capable of running Amazon’s Kindle including: PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android device, Windows Phone 7, and Blackberry. Its been designed to use a Verified Email Protocol, with security in mind and enables websites to get proof of ownership using public key cryptography. HTC To Appeal ITC Ruling On Apple Patent Infringements Posted: 18 Jul 2011 02:35 AM PDT Earlier today we heard that the International Trade Commission (ITC) had initially ruled that HTC has infringed on two of Apple’s patents relating to iOS devices, the initial ruling was done by an ITC judge and is still subject to a further ruling from a panel of six ITC judges. As we mentioned earlier, the ruling is bad news for both HTC and Google’s Android OS, if the final ruling from the six ITC judges find in favour of Apple this could cause major problems for Android, and HTC has now announced that it will be launching an appeal with the ITC. It looks like Apple has finally caught up with the demand for the iPad 2 as they have now listed the device as shipping on their website within 1-3 business days, which is the standard shipping time on most Apple products.
