| Hanako 2 Dental Robot Is Very Impressive (Video) Posted: 01 Jul 2011 10:09 AM PDT No other country on Earth seems to be more dedicated to realizing Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell than Japan. They might as well deify Ridley Scott and proclaim him the spiritual father of the country’s various humanoid robotics projects. Pictured below is the lovely Hanako 2, a rather stimulating female root that’s supposed to train dentistry students and oral healthcare professionals in the fien art of looking after teeth.

| LED Lunar Lamp Puts Moonlight In Your Hands Posted: 01 Jul 2011 09:50 AM PDT Keep in mind what’s pictured below isn’t our lovely moon after it’s been zapped by a shrink ray. Shrink rays don’t exist. There aren’t Decepticons buried under the moon dust either. Seen below is a creation by Nosigner, a Japanese design studio. The Lunar Lamp is a 3D orb illuminated by a LED bulb. It’s supposed to commemorate the tragic earthquake-tsunamio that struck Japan in late March.

| Ricoh Acquires Pentax’s Digicam Business For Expansion Plans Posted: 01 Jul 2011 07:39 AM PDT It has been confirmed today that Ricoh has purchased Pentax’s Digicam business from its current owners Tokyo-based Hoya group. According to reports the sale is worth around $124 million for Pentax and details have been issued in a PDF from Hoya. Ricoh plans to expand its already existing but relatively small camera business which sold around 1.6 million cameras last year but lacks DSLR products. By developing the Pentax single-lens reflex range to enter markets in developing countries. The latest version of Google+ for Android will now let you use multiple Gmail accounts when you sign into the app, it has also had a minor UI update and Google have also added a ‘Spiffy new profile icon on the menu screen’.

| Olympus Pen E-P3 Appears On Amazon Posted: 01 Jul 2011 05:45 AM PDT Yesterday Olympus unveiled three new cameras in their PEN range, the flagship model was the new Olympus Pen E-P3, and it has now appeared on Amazon for pre-order although there doesn’t seem to be any delivery date as yet. The Olympus PEN E-P3 features a 12.3 megapixel Live Mos sebsor which has been developed by Olympus, there is also a 3 inch OLED touchscreen display, and it can record HD video in 1080i.

Traditional flash memory has some great advantages and is currently used in a huge number of devices from Mac Book Air’s to mobile phones, however its weakness is its limited lifespan. IBM is hoping their new PCM technology will be able to replace solid-state flash memory in the near future, and we could see devices equipped with the new PCM memory within the next five years. | New WiFi SleepWell Technology Doubles Device Battery Life Posted: 01 Jul 2011 03:11 AM PDT WiFi communications from your mobile device can eat through your battery life fairly quickly and this is magnified considerably if more devices are using the same hotspot, as a queue is then formed with each device waiting for its turn to download data. This waiting in line method tends to burn even more battery life from your device as it needs to stay awake while waiting its turn. Now a new system named “SleepWell’ has been developed by a Duke University graduate student which is looking to double the battery life of mobile devices. The new system allows devices to sleep while waiting for their turn, hence saving their battery life and the battery life of the device currently downloading data.

It looks like Google will not be happy with the outcome of the patents auction as a consortium of technology companies has acquired the Nortel patents for a total of $4.5 billion.

| Windows Phone 7 Mango Adds Front Facing Camera Support Posted: 30 Jun 2011 11:31 PM PDT It looks like Windows Phone 7 Mango will add support for front facing cameras on Windows Phone 7 devices, as the guys over at WPCentral have discovered a new icon within the camera function in Windows Phone 7. The button looks like it can be used to toggle between front and rear facing cameras, and they have also found a reference to a ‘self portrait camera’ in the latest Beta 2 of Windows Phone 7.
