Motorola introduces Motorola Defy Pro with QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen display

Motorola is launching its first Defy smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen display in Brazil next month. It's called the Motorola Defy Pro. This phone is dust-proof, water-resistant, and features Corning's Gorilla Glass display.

Dell Project Sputnik Combines Linux And XPS 13 Ultrabooks (video)

Dell has today made a number of resources live for developers that might be interested in their new system under the Spunik Project, which sees Dell and Canonical partnering to create developer specific Ultrabooks.

The Dell developer Ultrabooks are taking the form of the XPS 13 which is loaded with a Ubuntu 12.04 together with a set of general developer tools.

Minecraft 1.3 Patch Combines Single And Multiplayer, Adds TripWire, Emeralds And More

This week Mojang the creators of the popular Minecraft game have officially rolled out the Minecraft 1.3 patch which brings with it a number of changes to the game engine.

Asus Announces Covers For Google Nexus 7 Tablet

Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet is expected to go on sale shortly, and now access has announced some nee accessories for the Google Nexus 7 on Twitter, which you can see in the photo below.

So it looks like Asus will be offering this new cover for the Google Nexus 7 in a range of colors which include black, magenta, cyan, light gray and orange.

Facebook App Center Launches In The UK

Facebook’s app center has been available in the US for a while, and now it has launched in the UK and is available to UK users from today, and there are a range of different apps available.

EyeMusic Transforms Colours Into Music For The Visually Impaired

A new system to help the blind has been developed called EyeMusic, by a team of researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The new EyeMusic sensory substitution devices (SSD) converts images in to music, enabling the visually impaired to "see" using music.

The team of researchers and developers have programmed EyeMusic with a number of algorithms that use different musical instruments for five different colours, providing the wearer with music as the camera passes over colours.

Take Time Watch

We have featured a number of different modern day pocket watches here on Geeky Gadgets over the years, but this neat little watch called the Take Time, can be attached to almost anything.

HTC’s Profits Fall By 50 Percent Due To Customs Ban And Weak Sales

HTC hasn’t been doing as well as it has in the past over the last few months, and now the company has released its latest financial results and its profits are down 50 percent on the same time last year.

HTC has had a number of issues over the last couple of months, the main one being the delay of its new smartphone launches in the US due to two devices being held by US customs after a legal dispute with Apple.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 To Be Announced Next Month (Rumor)

We have been hearing quite a few rumors about the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 over the last couple of months,the device is expected to feature a 5.5 inch unbreakable display, and also have a number of other upgrades over the existing model.

Other rumored specifications on the Galaxy Note 2 include an improved camera, possibly a 12 or even a 13 megapixel version, and according to a recent report Samsung intends to announced the device at IFA in Berlin which starts on the 31st of August.

Left 4 Dead On PS Vita Looks Awesome (video)

A video has been published on YouTube showing how Left 4 Dead has been able to be played on a PS Vita using remote desktop play and PlayStation Mobile.

The Left 4 Dead controls have been rigged to the PS Vita motion controller, and makes the game look like excellent fun on Sony’s latest pocket gaming console. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

Apple Fixes Corrupted App Store Problems

Battlefield 3 Matches Feature Adds Customised Competitive Multiplayer

EA has just announced that a new feature will be arriving on their Battlefield 3 game called Matches. Which will add a number of new customisations for competitive multiplayer gaming within Battlefield 3.

Google’s Nexus 7 Tablet To Start Shipping Next Week?

Google hasn’t given an actual release date for their new Nexus 7 Android tablet in the US, although is is expected around the middle of the month, and now it would appear that the Nexus 7 may actually start shipping next week.

The news comes from some of the guys over at the XDA developers forum, as one person who pre-ordered the tablet, and then tried to cancel it was unable to do so as the device had already started shipping.

Fujitsu Launching DIY Custom PC Assembly Service

Fujitsu has announced this week that it will be launching a new service for customers called the Hands-on Custom PC Assembly Service. Which enables customers to build their very own systems with support from Fujitsu during the build process.

The new Fujitsu DIY systems will be provided semi-constructed with the motherboard already in place and wired to power. Together with 15 packages containing everything else you need to build your own PC, regardless of your computer knowledge and skills.

LibreOffice Android Suite Making Progress

Last year LibreOffice announced that they were busy developing an Android version of their suite of software packages, and now it looks like the Android version is making good progress.

Thanks to developer Michael Meeks who has this week posted an update on progress together with a few screenshots, but explained that an official release of the new Android LibreOffice is still sometime away.

HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE Gets Reviewed

We have been hearing about the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE for Verizon Wireless for quite some time, the handset has finally gone on sale and the reviews are starting to come in on this new Android smartphone.

CyanogenMod Team Working On CyanogenMod 10 With Android Jelly Bean

The CyanogenMod team have announced the next version of their popular ROM for Android devices, CyanogenMod 10 which will be based on the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Although we may have to wait a little while as the source code for Android 4.1 has not been released yet, as soon as it is we can expect the CyanogenMod guys to get to work on CyanogenMod 10.

Google Confirms Galaxy Nexus Removed From Sale Due To Apple And Samsung Lawsuit

Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone was banned from sale in the US earlier this week, the device was removed from Google’s Play Store, and Google noted on their store that the handset would launch next week with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Now Google has confirmed that the reason the Galaxy Nexus was removed from sale is because of the lawsuit between Apple and Samsung, Google confirmed this to ABC News.

Amazon Working On Smartphone To Take On Apple’s iPhone (Rumor)

Amazon has done well with their Kindle Fire tablet, they are expected to release a new model next month, and now according to a recent rumor, Amazon is working on their own smartphone in an attempt to take on Apple and the iPhone.

The news comes from Bloomberg, who have said that Amazon are working with Foxconn on this new device, the same company that produces the iPhone for Apple.

Archos 97 Carbon Android 4.0 Tablet Announced

Archos has added a new Android tablet to their range of the Archos 97 Carbon, the device comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a 9.5 inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

The Archos 97 Carbon is powered by a single core 1GHz processor and features 1GB of RAM, there is also 16GB of built in storage, plus a microSD card slot which can take up to 32GB cards.

Facebook updated in BlackBerry Beta Zone

Facebook invests in underwater Internet cable for Asia

Facebook wants more members in Asia and it is going to great lengths to get them. Facebook has reportedly invested in a new underwater cable project that will stretch up to 10,000 kilometers. That’s 6,214 in miles. The project is called Asia Pacific Gateway and the idea is to improve Internet speeds for the majority of the people on the continent by using fiber-optic cable to send and receive data to North America faster.

Levitating light bulb needs no wires
