Large Hadron Collider Finally Gets Lego Treatment

Turns out a big fan of CERN from faraway Denmark has done the unthinkable. A short while ago during the aftermath of the latest hysteria involving the Higgs boson, science nerd Sasha Mehlhase decided to build a scale model. Seen below is the fruit of many days’ labor, requiring a comprehensive 3D model and a few thousand Euro worth of LEGO blocks.

University Professors Create New Calendar, Want Predictable Year

A lot of crazy stuff goes down at venerable Johns Hopkins University. Since this is the verge of a new year, however, a project initiated by two professors could not have come sooner. Richard Conn Henry, an astrophysicist, has been in cahoots with his economist colleague Steve Hanke to bring forth the calendar to end all calendars. It’s a calendar so precise, each and every year is going to unravel with uniform precision. Is this even possible?

Awesome Mini-Submersible Fits Two, Has A Terrible Secret

In what amounts to an impressive example of thinking way outside the box, this newfangled SeaBird from AquaVenture goes around underwater towed. That’s right–it’s towed. Via a 400 ft cable attached to a boat on the surface. Dashes your dreams of going all Captain Nemo on his Nautilus, right? If that sounds a tad bizarre, the advantage of having this for your underwater ride is it goes faster than usual. According to AquaVenture, the two-passenger SeaBird is capable of an impressive 22 knots, which translates to 40 plus mph.

Cloud Backups Headed To Windows Phone?

It would appear that Microsoft is planning something new for their Windows Phone platform for 2012, according to a recent job listing for Microsoft, it looks like the company may bring some sort of backup and restore service to Windows Phone devices.

Nokia Lumia 710 Appears On T-Mobile’s Website

The Nokia Lumia 710 is Nokia’s first Windows Phone smartphone to launch in the US, and it would appear that the device is getting closer to release as it has now been listed on the T-Mobile website.

Although T-Mobile haven’t listed an exact launch date as yet, as it is just listed as coming soon on their website, and the handset will be available for $50 after rebates when you sign up to a new two year contract.

Samsung Galaxy Note Headed To The US Early Next Year

Yesterday we heard that Samsung had shipped over one million Galaxy Note handsets, and one thing we missed in the announcement was that Samsung has now officially confirmed that the Galaxy Note is headed to the US in 2012.

We have previously heard a rumor that the Galaxy Note would launch with US mobile carrier AT&T in January, this has still yet to be confirmed by AT&T, although now it looks like a possible date considering the recent Samsung announcement.

Acer Iconia Tab A700 Coming To CES 2012

Acer recently launched their latest Android tablet, the Iconia Tab A200 and now it looks like they will be launching the new Iconia Tab A700 at CES 2012 in January, as some details of the device have been leaked.

The guys from NoMobile (Translated), have got their hands on some photos and details of the device and it will feature a 10.1 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.

Fake Siri App Lands On Android Market

Google doesn’t check apps that appear on its Android Market, and in the past this has lead to a number of fake apps appearing on the Android Market, the latest one is called Siri for Android.

The app is published by a developer called ‘Official App’, obviously an attempt to make people thin this is in actual official app, and the developer also has another app called Pinterest, which obviously isn’t from the Pinterest team.

Verizon To Charge $2 Fee For Paying Your Bill Online

It looks like Verizon Wireless will be introducing a new fee for its mobile subscriber in January, if you pay your bill online or by telephone, Verizon will charge you an extra $2.00.

This new fee is reported to be introduced on the 15th of January, and whilst it hasn’t been confirmed by Verizon, leaked documents have revealed that Verizon intends to introduce this new fee next month.

Apple Planning Face Regonition For Future iOS Devices?

Google already has face recognition in its new Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, and now a new Apple patent has been revealed which could mean that Apple is planning to add face recognition to future iOS devices.

Amazon Sold Over 4 Million Kindle Devices In December

It looks like the release of Amazon’s first Android tablet, the Amazon Kindle Fire has helped the company boost sales of Kindle devices considerably for December, as Amazon has announced that they sold over 4 million Kindle devices in December.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Kindle Touch and Kindle were on the top three spots on Amazon’s best seller list for December, with the new Kindle Fire holding the top spot.

Samsung Mandel And HTC Radiant LTE Windows Phones Coming Next Year

It looks like we finally have some details on the first LTE Windows Phone smartphones from Microsoft, according to a recent report by the Verge both HTC and Samsung are launching LTE Windows Phone Devices early next year.

The two devices are the HTC Radiant and the Samsung Mandel and both handsets are reported to come with pre Tango versions of Windows Phone that offers support for LTE.

Nintendo Working On App Store For Wii U Console

It seems the latest company who intends to launch their own App store is Nintendo, according to a recent report by the Daily, Nintendo are working on their own app store for their Wii U console which will go on sale in 2012.
