Yamaha’s Retro Cool THR5 Amp Debuts

Posted: 23 Dec 2011 11:24 AM PST

Yamaha makes all sorts of audio gear. I’ve seen more docks for smartphones and home theater bars than anything from the company. It has a new amp for musicians that looks really cool with a very retro design. The outside may look like something from decades ago, but inside it’s modern.

Japanese Geniuses Building A Gundam

Posted: 23 Dec 2011 07:52 AM PST

The Japanese are still at it, people. (Okay so they’re always at it.) More than 50 years since Ozamu Tezuka conceived of Astro Boy, Japanese scientists continue to obsess over that most illusive goal–a robot. But this time, they’re building a giant one. Fine, it’s not a Gundam, but what else can you call a 13 foot mecha? The Hajime Research Institute, rather than give Bandai free promo, consider their current work as building a viable ’4 meter robot’ aka mobile suit. Close enough.

Like classic Star Craft, some games never get old. Seen below are a set of dominoes. Look unfamiliar? Don’t fret, it’s the same dominoes you loved before you fell under the spell of first person shooters. Except this time, well this time the artful creators chose bronze as their material. Charcoal blackened bronze, to be specific. The result is a 21st century hyper modern reinvention of the ancient game, which when played correctly, may last ages.

Shortly after the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1N was released in Germany, Apple filed another case with the court in an attempt to have the new tablet banned again, although it would appear that the judge in the latest case thinks Samsung has changed the tablet enough to avoid another ban.

In the annals of odd music, James Struthers’ latest single ranks…somewhere. Titled ‘You, Me, and Optimus Prime,’ the chill out track inspired a music video where a young man gets to enjoy outdoor escapades with the Autobot stalwart. It’s obvious Michael Bay had no input on this concept (there are zero explosions), but it’s unsure if Sam Witwicky (as played by Shia LaBeouf–spelling?) is comfortable with his best extra terrestrial giant robot friend hanging with someone else.

After so many years, Ridley Scott finally returns to the genre that established his name as a cutting edge director. ‘Prometheus’ follows a team of scientists on a dangerous mission whose outcome they barely survive. That has to suffice for now, but for a giant spoiler, just do some smart googling. Word on the street is ‘Prometheus’ is an un-credited prequel to the Alien saga, taking place long before the events of the first Alien movie transpired. Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, here is the trailer whose score is oddly reminiscent of ‘Inception,’ full of booming noises and and shouting.
