New App Lets User Dissect Exotic Cuisine Posted: 11 Sep 2011 09:51 AM PDT Not in the physical sense, wherein exotic cuisine is dissected, but in breaking down the language and cultural barrier that confronts hungry visitors. Developed in Purdue University, the app works as a translator and guide to foreign cuisine that a diner is likely to come across in their travels.

Really Long And Epic Chart Maps Our Future Via Movies Posted: 11 Sep 2011 09:28 AM PDT If sci-fi movies in the last 50 years are anything to go by, our future is a dark and terrible spectacle. Shenanigans too. This according to an immense new graphic that chronologically arranges our future according to several dozen science fiction movies and TV shows, including Futurama. Judging by the resulting timeline, the next 1,000 years are an awful mess. HP Teases New Affordable 3D Scanner Posted: 11 Sep 2011 09:02 AM PDT Note it’s a 3D scanner, not a 3D printer, so stop thinking about the Makerbot in all its glory. Surprise surprise, HP is teasing its new TopShot Laserjet Pro M275, which is being hyped as a high end scanner for the masses. Problem is the retail price is a bit of a downer. More on this after the jump.

Strange Ultra-Modern Thermal Spa To Rise In Germany Posted: 11 Sep 2011 08:46 AM PDT Thermal spas have a long history and remain favorite destinations among the health-conscious who seek natural solutions to their ailments. When it comes to downtime for rest and relaxation, Germans don't mind spending it in a spa. But something else has rissen in Bad Essen: an entire resort blessed with smart design and a host of excellent facilities. It’s more than a spa, it’s a spa plus. Nolan Bushnell Of Atari Fame Wants To Revolutionize Education Posted: 11 Sep 2011 05:29 AM PDT In what amounts as another boost to cloud computing, the guy behind Atari is lobbying for a revamp of the U.S. education system. By ‘lobbying’ isn't meant the usual method of currying favor in the halls of political power. Instead, Nolan Bushnell spoke about his plans in a Cloud Gaming Conference. According to Bushnell, for the past 10 years he’s been developing a gaming-based educational curriculum that could replace the usual high school circus. Is he a madman or a genius? Both, we think. Rumors Swirling Of AOL And Yahoo Merger Posted: 10 Sep 2011 03:58 PM PDT Nothing confirmed yet, but this change comes as no surprise. Yahoo has long been a whipping boy throughout the interwebs. As a company that never lived up to its potential, Yahoo is now on the verge of the final stages of decay. Alright, that was a little too grim for comfort. The point we’re trying to get across is news/rumors have emerged that a merger is in the works with (gasp!) AOL. Batman Bat Signal Keychain Might Put A Hole In Your Pocket Posted: 10 Sep 2011 03:56 PM PDT It’s because of the pointy edges. That’s the unforeseen problem with all sorts of keychains. Unless you keep them hanging from a belt or pouch, putting a keychain inside your pocket invites some serious wear and tear. Despite such misgivings, this is a nice looking laser pointer/mini-flashlight, for sure. FTC Cracks Down On Smartphone Apps That Allegedly Cure Zits Posted: 10 Sep 2011 03:56 PM PDT An ugly word indeed. Zits, mind you, not ‘FTC’. To soften its awful implications, let’s settle on acne. Turns out a rash (pun intended) of suspicious iPhone apps have been spreading and the FTC isn’t too pleased with the trend. The problem is these apps are claiming to cure acne via an iPhone. Crazy? You bet. (...) © Geeky Gadgets, 2011. | Permalink | Unauthorized duplication and or distribution of our content is strictly forbidden © Geeky Gadgets, 2011 |
Scary Lego Predator Bust Glowers At You Posted: 10 Sep 2011 03:54 PM PDT Ah, Predator. The most underrated sci-fi horror franchise ever. In fact, the only time Predator got any respect after the first movie starring Schwarzenegger is when it got mashed up with Aliens. If we’re not mistaken, said mashup is still very lucrative for the franchise, seeing the success of its movies and video games. Now get a load of this incredible Lego bust. Classic! Watch This Robot Almost Commit Suicide Then Pull Off A Stunt (Video) Posted: 10 Sep 2011 03:40 PM PDT Relax, this isn’t a tragic case of an otherwise benign household helper doing itself in. When you watch the video, you’ll realize it’s being done in the name of science. It’s a test that involves a particular type of thrill seeking wherein the subject dives off a steep edge then launches a parachute for a smooth descent. In other words, base jumping.
