World Smallest Electric Motor Is Made From A Single Molecule Posted: 05 Sep 2011 08:23 AM PDT Researchers from the Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts have created the worlds smallest electric motor which is made from just a single molecule and measures an amazing a billionth of a metre, or just one nanometer across. The team led by associate professor of chemistry Charles Sykes were able to move a single butyl methyl sulfide molecule back and forth using a scanning tunnelling microscope and dropping the temperature of the molecule down to 5 Kelvin or 450F to be able to count the rotations of the molecule. Google’s Android Grabs 47 Percent Of UK Smartphone Market Posted: 05 Sep 2011 06:22 AM PDT According to recent figures released by consumer analyst firm Kantar Worldpanel, Google’s Android has increased its share of the smartphone market here in the UK to 47.1 percent, which is then followed by RIM with their BlackBerry devices at 21.5 percent and Apple with 20.8 percent. The report also says that Symbian is around 7.2 percent and Windows mobile just a 1.7 percent of the total UK smartphone market. Android has increased from 22 percent for the same period in 2010. As it has no hands or clock face to tell the time but uses a system of knocks. The very unique Knock Clock has been created by a three Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design students, Gijs Huisman, Giorgio Uboldi, Michael-Owen Liston, for entry into a competition and took around 48 hours to build.
