Taiwanese Firm Outs The Life And Career Of Steve Jobs

Ever since the most iconic CEOs of the modern era stepped down, the tech world and beyond have been paying their respects to Steve ‘the Man’ Jobs. Taiwanese CGI animation studio Next Media has gone a little further with a biopic equal parts Star Wars, Tron, and Terminator. (Spoiler: Jobs fights Androids!)

ISS At Risk Of Being Abandoned

On August 24, a Russian Soyuz rocket failed at its third stage. It was unmanned but the unexpected disaster has checked further scheduled launches from Kazakhstan. Thanks to the multilateral connectivity of American, Russian, and European space programs this set back could leave the ISS unmanned by year’s end.

Apple Ends iTunes TV Show Rentals

Last year Apple introduced TV show rentals to iTunes and their Apple TV, and now it looks like the service has been canceled according to a recent report by All Things D.

The service would let you rent an episode of a TV show for $0.99, now you can only buy individual episodes or purchase a season pass which will let you watch the whole season of the TV show.

MIT’s Folding CityCar Electric Vehicle (Video)

MIT is working on a new electric vehicle, which is called the CityCar, and the vehicle will be able to fold up to reduce the actual size of the car when it is parked.

The video below shows a prototype of the CityCar in action, the final production version will be larger than the actual one featured in the video below.

Windows 8 Tablet Apps Get Previewed

Runner Creates 21KM Long Apple Logo As A Tribute To Steve Jobs

Last week we heard that Steve Jobs was stepping down as Apple’s CEO, marathon runner Joseph Tame has created a cool tribute to Steve Jobs, a 21KM long Apple logo created using GPS and 2 iPhones.

The photo below shows the 21KM route that Joseph ran to create the Apple Logo, and he used an app called Runkeeper to track his progress whilst he was running through central Tokyo.

Toshiba To Launch Ultra Thin Android Honeycomb Tablet AT IFA

Toshiba already has a couple of Android tablets on the market, although they haven’t exactly been that popular, now according to a recent report from Notebook Italia, Toshba is set to debut an ultra thin Android Honeycomb tablet at IFA this week.

The new tablet is expected to feature a 10 inch display like the Toshiba Thrive, but will be much thinner and will come with a microUSB, microHDMI and microSD card slot.

HP’s TouchPad Headed Back To Best Buy?

We heard a while back that Best Buy had over 200,000 HP TouchPad’s which they were looking to return to HP, and then last week HP dropped the price of the HP TouchPad to just $99.

This lead the HP TouchPad to be sold out everywhere as people scrambled to get their hands on the $99 tablet, but what happened to all those TouchPad’s that Best Buy were sending back to HP?

Apple Granted Expedited Trial In Samsung Lawsuit

Apple and Samsung have been suing each other for a while now, and we recently heard that a number of Samsung devices had been banned in Europe, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Apple has been attempting to get their Federal lawsuit in the US heard against Samsung sooner rather than later, and now it would appear that Apple has been granted an expedited trial  date in the case against Samsung ad the trial will take place on the 30th of July 2012.

Steampunk Xbox 360 Mod

We have featured quite a few different Xbox mods here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one was created by Robet LaMonte, a simple yet stylish design that gives his Xbox 360 a cool steampunk look.

Robert wanted to add some extra cooling to his Xbox 360, so he decided to give it a new look at the same time, he added some brass accents, some gears and had it painted with a wood look finish by the guys over at Liquid Transformations.

Motorola Droid Bionic Gets Shown Off On Video Again

More Photos Of The HTC Holiday Leaked

We saw some photos of the HTC Holiday a few weeks ago, the device pictured at the time was a prototype of the HTC Holiday, and now the guys over at Engadget have got their hands on some photos of the actual final HTC Holiday.

According to the report the HTC Holiday will feature a 4.5 inch qHD display, plus a dual core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, there is also an 8 megapixel camera with an LED flash on the back and a 1.3 megapixel camera up front.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Leaked

Last week we heard that Samsung intends to launch a new range of devices at this years IFA, one of those is the follow on to the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, and it will be called the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The guys over at Android Life have managed to get their hands on some photos of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 which you can see below, and it will feature a similar design to the Galaxy Tab 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE And Galaxy S II LTE Announced

Earlier we heard that Samsung may be launching an LTE version of the popular Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone, Samsung has now officially confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE will debut at IFA in Berlin later this week, along with a  new Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE.

Both new galaxy devices will feature a dual core 1.5GHz processor, and the Samsung Galaxy S II will feature a larger 4.5 inch display as we mentioned earlier.

Sony S2 Will Be Called The Sony Tablet P

We have been hearing more and more about Sony’s new Android tablets the S1 and S2, and now the guys over at Engadget have got some more information on the Sony S2 tablet.

According to the report the Sony S2 will be called the Sony Tablet P when it launches next month, and it will feature dual 5.5 inch multi-touch displays, and with come with 512mb of RAM, 4GB of storage with a 2GB SD card included, 4G and WiFi connectivity, plus an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.

Samsung Galaxy S II LTE With Upgraded Specifications Launching At IFA?

Samsung is scheduled to launch the Galaxy S II in the US tomorrow, and now it would appear that the company may also be launching an upgraded version of the Samsung Galaxy S II later this week at IFA Berlin.

Samsung Galaxy S II US Launch Delayed Until Tomorrow

The Samsung Galaxy S II was expected to launch in the US today, the 29th of August, and the event was taking place in New York, Samsung have now decided to change the launch date to the 30th of August.

We heard last week that Verizon may not be carrying the new Samsung Galaxy S II in the US, so we guess this will be confirmed tomorrow one way or another.

Minecraft Developer Releases ‘Scrolls’ Trailer (Video)

Minecraft developer, Markus Persson has released the first trailer of his latest game, which is called Scrolls, and it is being developed by Persson and his colleague Jakob Porser.

The trailer below only has a couple of seconds of game play at the end but it gives us a brief idea what the game will be like, according to the developers, Scrolls is a combination between strategy games and collectible card games.

HTC Vigor Photos Leaked

A couple of weeks ago the HTC Vigor appeared online briefly, and we got to see some of the specifications of this new Android device from HTC, and now the guys over at Droid Life have got their hands on some actual photos of the HTC Vigor.

As we heard previously the HTC Vigor is expected to features a 4.3 inch HD display, with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which would mean it would be one of the first HD smartphones available.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook Receive 1 Million Apple Shares Worth $383 Million

Apple has filed a new report with the SEC with regards to the recent changes at Apple and the appointment of their new CEO Tim Cook, after Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple’s CEO last week.

It looks like Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook, has been given some share options, and assuming he stays at the company until 2021, he will receive 1 million Apple shares worth a massive $383 million at Apple’s current share prices.

Razer Blade 17 Inch Ultra Thin Gaming Laptop Announced

Razer is well know for its wide range of gaming accessories, and now the company has announced a new ultra thin gaming laptop, the Razer Blade, which will come with a 17 inch LED backlit display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which means it will be able to handle Full HD video in 1080p.

Processing on the Razer Blade is provided by an Intel Core i7 2640M 2.8GHz processor and it comes with 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics, with 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory.

Toshiba Smarbo Robot Vacuum Cleaner Announced

Toshiba has announced the launch of a new robot vacuum cleaner, called the Smarbo, and the company is obviously looking to compete with popular devices like the Roomba and other robot vacuum cleaners, although it looks like this one may be a little more expensive than other offerings.

The Toshiba Smarbo is capable of cleaning a 100sqm room in just 90 minutes, and it comes with 38 individual sensors and two CPU’s, and it will also come with a remote control.

Google TV Coming To The UK In 2012

On Friday we heard a rumor that Google TV would be launching in the UK some time within the next six months, and now Google’s Eric Schmidt has confirmed that Google TV will launch in the UK in early 2012.

Google has said that the UK version of Google TV will feature content from popular on demand services like the BBC’s iPlayer and the ITV player, with more services being added before the launch.

Amazon’s Android Tablets To Be Much Cheaper Than iPad?

We know that Amazon are working on their first tablets which will run Google’s Android OS, and it looks like Amazon will have a similar pricing strategy to that of their Kindle eBook reader, which is sold at a low price in order to get people to purchase the device and content for it.

According to a report from the New York Post, Amazon’s Android tablets will be priced at ‘hundreds less’ than Apple’s iPad, which would be a smart move for Amazon and could see their tablets becoming popular.

Motorola Droid Bionic Launch Date Confirmed, 8th September

We have been hearing rumors that the Motorola Droid Bionic would launch on the 8th of September, and now it looks like this will be the official launch date, as a Motorola twitter account has confirmed the 8th of September as the launch date.

Motorola has now also listed the Droid Bionic on their homepage, although it looks like the full official specifications are missing for now.

iPhone 5 (N94) Prototype Casing Leaked?

According to the guys over at Macpost, the photo below is of a white back cover for the iPhone 5, the casing is marked with the codename N94, this is something that has been found inside the iOS 5.0 SDK before.

It looks like this may actually be a prototype version of the back casing of the iPhone 5, so it may or may not look like this when it finally goes on sale later this year.
