| Hackers Steal Car Using Android Smartphone Posted: 05 Aug 2011 04:39 AM PDT Some of our reader will remember that the article we featured last Friday, where security researchers have developed a method to unlock car doors using SMS and smartphones. The hack was named ‘War Texting’ and it was created by Don Bailey and Matthew Solnik from security firms iSec partners, and they had developed a hack that was able to intercept the wireless messages that travel between software based systems like OnStar and cars, they were able to crack the protocol behind the systems and then duplicate it with a laptop.

| More Evidence That Amazon’s Android Tablet Will Land In October Posted: 05 Aug 2011 04:13 AM PDT We know that Amazon is working on their first Android tablet, we recently heard that the Amazon Android tablet would go on sale in October, and now there is more evidence which hints at an October launch date. According to Cens, Amazon’s manufacturer of the Kindle, Quanta, who also makes the PlayBook for RIM, will be making the Android tablet for Amazon, and they are expected to ship around three million units of the new Android tablet to Amazon in October.

| Google Responds To Microsoft On Android Patent Dispute Posted: 05 Aug 2011 03:51 AM PDT Earlier today we heard from Microsoft that they had asked Google to join them in the bid for the patents from Nortel related to mobile technology, the patents were purchased in the end by a consortium of companies for $4.5 billion, and the companies included Microsoft, Apple and Oracle. Google’s David Drummond whos is Google’s Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, has responded to Microsoft and basically accused Microsoft of trying to divert attention from the real issue.

| Minecraft Passes 3 Million Sales Posted: 05 Aug 2011 03:44 AM PDT Minecraft has today passed the 3 million milestone for game sales, even before the game has even been officially launched. It was only back at the end of April this year that Minecraft passed the 2 million sales mark, and before that in January that I wrote about Minecraft passing the 1 million sales mark. Most games would be delighted to receive such sales but its creator independent developer Markus Persson has done all this without any kind of support from publishers, relying purely on viral communities to spread word about the game, and Paypal to accept payments. This amazing and the worlds largest Post-it note animation to date, has been created as as an advertising campaign for a new Melissa shoe store in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and took 25 animators over five months to create. | The Worlds Strangest iPhone Case Posted: 05 Aug 2011 02:44 AM PDT We have featured quite a few different iPhone and iPod cases here at Geeky Gadgets, some with a cool design, and some not, I think this one falls in to the latter category and could quite possibly be the worlds strangest iPhone case. The Hand iPhone Case, as the name suggests, is a silicone case for your iPhone 4 with a plastic hand attached to the back, why we have no idea, but according to the manufacturer it should make it safer to hold and less easy to drop.

| Posted: 05 Aug 2011 02:24 AM PDT London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson wants WiFi to be more available in London, we heard a while back that the plan was to get it city wide before the 2012 Olympics, and now it looks like the plan also included installing WiFi on London’s many buses. The existing plan for the city wide WiFi previously included London’s tube stations and bus stops, but now a spokesperson for the Mayor’s office has revealed that the plan now includes the London buses.

The new TouchWiz UX upadet brings a range of new features to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, icnluding new widgets, and a range of preloaded applications which include Amazon Music Cloud Player, Amazon Kindle, and Words With Friends from Zynga, and Samsung has also added in some enterprise solutions and services.

| Posted: 05 Aug 2011 12:41 AM PDT We had heard previously that Nokia would be launching the N9 some time in September, and now Nokia has uploaded an officially countdown clock on the Nokia N9 homepage, which currently shows the N9 launching in 49 days, as of today. That would give the Nokia N9 a launch date of the 23rd of September, and although we still don’t have any official pricing from Nokia, we have heard rumors previously that it may cost around $660 SIM free.

| Some US Internet Providers Are Hijacking Users Search Results Posted: 05 Aug 2011 12:04 AM PDT According to two researchers at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkley, California, some of the US Internet providers are hijacking users search queries and redirecting them. The two researchers, Christian Kreibich and Nicholas Weaver discovered that certain ISP’s were using a technology by Paxfire which redirects a users search results when they type in a certain keyword to their search engine of choice.

| Motorola Droid Bionic Full Specifications Revealed Posted: 04 Aug 2011 11:43 PM PDT We have been hearing about the Motorola Droid Bionic since it was first show off at CES in January, the device was scheduled to launch earlier in the year and it has been delayed a number of times and there had even been rumors that it would be canceled. The last thing we heard was that the Droid Bionic would go on sale in September, and now it has been spotted on Motorola’s support site along with full specifications, the page has now been pulled but the cached version is still available here.

| HP Drops 16GB TouchPad By $100 Posted: 04 Aug 2011 10:43 PM PDT On Wednesday we heard that HP had dropped the price of both the 16GB and 32GB TouchPad by $50, now it looks like HP is attempting to increase sales and generate more interest in the TouchPad as they are reducing the price of the 16GB TouchPad this weekend, starting today by $100 so it will now cost $399. The deal is only available from today the 5th of August until the 7th of August, but we suspect the $399 price may appeal to quite a few webOS fans who have held off purchasing HP’s first webOS based tablet.

| Microsoft Says They Asked Google To Bid On Novell Patents Posted: 04 Aug 2011 10:24 PM PDT Yesterday Google’s David Drummond, who is Google’s Chief Legal Officer and also the companies Senior Vice President posted an article on the Google Blog, with the title 'When patents' attack Android'. The article criticized, Microsoft, Apple and Oracle over the recent patents which were purchased by the consortium of companies from Nortel Networks relating to mobile technology, the article also said that the patents were purchased in an attempt to block Google’s Android OS.

| Google’s Chrome OS Hacked By Security Researchers Posted: 04 Aug 2011 10:09 PM PDT It looks like Google’s Chrome OS has been hacked by two security researchers who demonstrated the hack at the Black Hat security conference yesterday, and according to a report they used a web based attack to compromise the security of Google’s Chrome OS. Matt Johanson and Kyle Osborn two researchers from White Hat Security's Threat Research Center,were able to access a number of things within Google’s Chrome OS, which included contacts, emails, Google Docs and even Google Voice messages.

The existing apps to be update are the Shuffle by Album, Zune Reader, Penalty! Flick Soccer, Email, and Echoes, and they have also released a range of new applications.
