Hackers Steal Car Using Android Smartphone Posted: 05 Aug 2011 04:39 AM PDT Some of our reader will remember that the article we featured last Friday, where security researchers have developed a method to unlock car doors using SMS and smartphones. The hack was named ‘War Texting’ and it was created by Don Bailey and Matthew Solnik from security firms iSec partners, and they had developed a hack that was able to intercept the wireless messages that travel between software based systems like OnStar and cars, they were able to crack the protocol behind the systems and then duplicate it with a laptop. Google Responds To Microsoft On Android Patent Dispute Posted: 05 Aug 2011 03:51 AM PDT Earlier today we heard from Microsoft that they had asked Google to join them in the bid for the patents from Nortel related to mobile technology, the patents were purchased in the end by a consortium of companies for $4.5 billion, and the companies included Microsoft, Apple and Oracle. Google’s David Drummond whos is Google’s Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, has responded to Microsoft and basically accused Microsoft of trying to divert attention from the real issue. It was only back at the end of April this year that Minecraft passed the 2 million sales mark, and before that in January that I wrote about Minecraft passing the 1 million sales mark. Most games would be delighted to receive such sales but its creator independent developer Markus Persson has done all this without any kind of support from publishers, relying purely on viral communities to spread word about the game, and Paypal to accept payments. This amazing and the worlds largest Post-it note animation to date, has been created as as an advertising campaign for a new Melissa shoe store in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and took 25 animators over five months to create. The existing plan for the city wide WiFi previously included London’s tube stations and bus stops, but now a spokesperson for the Mayor’s office has revealed that the plan now includes the London buses. That would give the Nokia N9 a launch date of the 23rd of September, and although we still don’t have any official pricing from Nokia, we have heard rumors previously that it may cost around $660 SIM free. Some US Internet Providers Are Hijacking Users Search Results Posted: 05 Aug 2011 12:04 AM PDT According to two researchers at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkley, California, some of the US Internet providers are hijacking users search queries and redirecting them. The two researchers, Christian Kreibich and Nicholas Weaver discovered that certain ISP’s were using a technology by Paxfire which redirects a users search results when they type in a certain keyword to their search engine of choice. HP Drops 16GB TouchPad By $100 Posted: 04 Aug 2011 10:43 PM PDT On Wednesday we heard that HP had dropped the price of both the 16GB and 32GB TouchPad by $50, now it looks like HP is attempting to increase sales and generate more interest in the TouchPad as they are reducing the price of the 16GB TouchPad this weekend, starting today by $100 so it will now cost $399. The deal is only available from today the 5th of August until the 7th of August, but we suspect the $399 price may appeal to quite a few webOS fans who have held off purchasing HP’s first webOS based tablet. Matt Johanson and Kyle Osborn two researchers from White Hat Security's Threat Research Center,were able to access a number of things within Google’s Chrome OS, which included contacts, emails, Google Docs and even Google Voice messages. We would have thought that despite Rage’s bog-standard… well, everything apart from the visuals, there’d still be at least 100k people out there who were willing to give it the benefit of the doubt on the strength of the Carmack name alone.
