Intel Says No to 50% CPU Price Cut Request by Ultrabook Makers

Intel has been talking up its new Ultrabooks with their thin profile and performance for a while now. The main feature was that the notebooks were supposed to have a price of under $1,000. Some of the top tier notebook makers have now said that that price will be hard to achieve with the processors from Intel racking up as much as a third of the cost of the notebooks.

HTC Sues Apple Again Over Patent Infringements

Today HTC has added more lawsuits to the already complicated legal disputes between HTC and Apple. HTC has now filed three more lawsuits against Apple seeking to halt the sale of Apple products within the US.

HTC says that it has legal possession over the patents which it acquired in 2008 and 2010 and are being infringed by Apple on its Mac computers, iPads, iPods, iPhones and other devices. HTC is seeking compensatory damages, triple damages for willful infringement and other remedies.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 European Ban Lifted, Except In Germany

Last week we brought you news about Apple’s injunction against Samsung banning them from importing their new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 into all European countries. Well luckily for Samsung an announcement has been released stating that Apples injunction, banning Samsung selling their Galaxy Tab 10.1 across Europe has now been temporarily lifted in all European Countries except Germany. Where the injunction against Samsung Electronics GmbH, a German subsidiary of Samsung still stands.

No details have been released as yet to why there has been a U-turn within the Düsseldorf district court about the applied injunction. But the lifting of the ban until after Samsung’s August 25th appeal hearing is good news for Samsung.

Supply Change Issues May Delay iPad 3 Launch?

Over the last few months rumours have been circulating that Apple might be launching a new iPad 3 late in 2011. However new rumours are now circulating that supplying chain issues might affect the rumoured launch date of the iPad 3 pushing it back into 2012.

Sources close to Apple’s supply chain have explained to the Digi Times that Apple has cancelled its iPad 3 supply schedule for the second half of 2011. Other reports are also indicating that Apples new A6 processor is also not going to be ready until 2012.

Street Fighter x Tekken, Gamescom 2011 Trailer (video)

Doom Classic FPS Game Arrives On iPad

Mac OS X Lion Drops Support For Analog Modems

Analog modem support is the latest causality to have been discovered with Apple’s new OS X Lion software. Joining the list with other such as Rosetta and Quicken who have also lost support and features.

Apple dropping the analog modem drivers is mainly due to Lion running in 64-bit most of the time, while drivers for older analog modems are still stuck in 32-bit. Even if you plug in Apple’s own analog USB modem in to a system running OS X Lion you will receive the message below.

HP Pre 3 Turns Up For Pre-order In Germany

HP’s Pre 3 has turned up for pre-order on HP’s website in Germany for 349 Euros, about $500, and according to HP the Pre 3 is scheduled to ship within one to two weeks.

As a reminder, the HP Pre 3 comes with a 3.58 inch touchscreen display and a slide out QWERTY keyboard, the display comes with a resolution  of 480 x 800 pixels, and processing is provided by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor.

Twitter Launches Its Photo Upload API To Third Party Developers

Twitter has today announced on its Developers Blog its ready to share its media upload API with third party developers. The newly launched Photo Upload API is now ready for download and available from the Twitter Developers website.

Even though some third party applications have already supported sending photos via Twitter, the services needed to use their own methods or use additional help provided by TwitPic or yFrog.

So if you prefer using one of the other alternative applications available for reading and responding in Twitter you should soon see a nice update soon that will also allow you to send photos.

Apple’s OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive Goes On Sale

When Apple launched the latest version of their Mac operating system, OS X Lion, it was only available as a digital download from the Mac App Store, Apple announced shortly after its release that they would release a USB version of Lion.

The USB version of OS X Lion has just appeared on the Apple Store online, and it is available for £55, with a shipping date of 1-3 business days, this compares to the £20.99 price of the digital download.

Motorola Defy+ Rugged Android Smartphone Announced

Some of our readers will remember the Motorola Defy that was announced last year, it was a rugged Android smartphone, and Motorola has now announced its successor the Motorola Defy+.

The Motorola Defy+ shares the same design as its predecessor, although the hardware has had a bump over the previous version as the Defy+ comes with a 1GHz single core processor and Android Gingerbread 2.3.4.

iFixit Launch Mac Mini Dual Hard Drive Installation Kit

Apple Presented Misleading Evidence In Samsung Galaxy Tab Case?

We heard recently that a German court has banned imports of Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab 10.1 in all European countries except the Netherlands, Samsung will be appealing the decision on the 25th of August at the next scheduled court hearing.

Now according to Webwereld.nl, Apple may have presented misleading information to the German court that put a stop to the imports of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Microsoft Wanted To Buy Motorola Mobility

According to a recent report from Om Malik over at GigaOm, Google wasn’t the only company interested in getting their hands on Motorola Mobility, Microsoft were also interested in purchasing Motorola and their wide range of mobile patents.

It looks like Microsoft were more interested in the patents that Motorola owned, than the actual whole company and the hardware they produce, this could have been the reason that Motorola chose Google, as Google will continue to run Motorola as a company that produces hardware.

Microsoft Discontinues Glossy Xbox 360, In Favour of Matte Black Finish

Its time to say goodbye to fingerprints on the outside of  Xbox 360 consoles, as Microsoft has announced that it will be dropping the Xbox 360′s glossy finish and replacing it with a matte black finish.

The change from gloss to matte has already started and you should be able to see the first new matte consoles in stores very shortly in either 250GB & 4GB hard drive capacities. Microsoft hasn’t completely dropped the glossy finish completely and may still use it on limited edition consoles, such as the upcoming Gears of War 3 Console.

Google Will Pay Motorola $2.5 Billion If The Deal Doesnt Go Through

Yesterday we heard that Google were purchasing smartphone and tablet maker Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion , of course the deal hasn’t gone though yet and there are number of things which could stop it going ahead.

It the deal doesn’t go through, and Google decides not to purchase Motorola, they will have to pay Motorola a massive $2.5 billion break up fee, probably the largest break up fee, and Google must be confident that the deal will go through to have agreed such a high fee.

CyanogenMod Founder Steve Kondik Hired By Samsung

It looks like the founder of CyanogenMod, one of the most popular ROM packages for Android, Steve Kondik has a new job, as he has changed his employer status on his Facebook page to Samsung Mobile.

Steve Kondik has said that he will continue to work on CyanogenMod as a side project and it is no way related to his work at Samsung Mobile, although we suspect this is what got him the job in the first place.

A couple of week ago HTC announced that they would be releasing their bootloader unlock tool for a number of HTC devices this month, and now HTC has released the bootloader unlock tool for the HTC Sensation.

Gears Of War 3 Gets 3D, Jaggies As Trade-Off

It must have been an exceedingly strange feeling for Epic, being on the outside looking in at a type of graphics technology they couldn’t quite support in their games when they’ve spent the past decade or so setting the standard for game visuals in the industry. Even the compromise they reached with the 3D technology they did manage to implement for Gears of War 3 doesn’t seem to satisfy them.

Lego Universe Getting Free Trial

We here at Geeky Gadgets love universes since we’ve pretty much been living in one for a while now and it’s working out swimmingly. Probably the only thing we love more is LEGO because… well it’s LEGO alright? Three year olds don’t need an explanation for that one and neither should you. All of which should make our reaction to the news that Lego Universe is getting a free to play trial entirely predictable.
