| 800Mbps LED Light Networking WLAN Posted: 02 Aug 2011 03:35 AM PDT LED Light networks have been under development for sometime, but the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI in Berlin, Germany has now been pushing the technology to its limits and is hoping to create a 800Mbps WLAN using the LED light network technology. Currently the optical WLAN co-opts white LEDs used for regular illumination to transmit data up to 100 Mbit/s, by flickering the LED’s more rapidly than the human eye can see. Devices are then fitted with a simple photo diode to receive the wireless connectivity, with each LED light providing around a 90 square foot range for connectivity. | RIBA II Robot Designed To Help With Nursing Care Posted: 02 Aug 2011 03:05 AM PDT Researchers at RIEN and Tokai Rubber Industries in Japan have developed a new robot which is designed to assist with nursing care, and it is capable of lifting a patient from the floor or a bed up to 80KG in weight and then it can move them to either a bed or a wheelchair. The RIBA II robot is designed to be an assistance to care givers and patients, and the companies who developed it intend to put these robots into production.

| Android Close To 50 Percent Worldwide Smartphone Market Share Posted: 02 Aug 2011 02:47 AM PDT Google’s Android OS has become incredibly popular amongst smartphone users, and now according to a new report from research firm Canalys, Google’s Android OS is getting close to a market share of 50 percent of smartphones worldwide fir quarter two of 2011. According to the report which tracked 56 countries around the world, Google’s Android has in the lead in 35 of those countries with an overall share of 48 percent of the worldwide smartphone market.

| Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Headed To Australia After All Posted: 02 Aug 2011 01:47 AM PDT Earlier today we reported that Samsung wouldn’t be releasing the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, the news came after Samsung and Apple had reached an agreement about releasing the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia. It turns out that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will go on sale in Australia, and the agreement between the two companies related to the US version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung has now confirmed to AusDroid that it will be releasing a different version for the Australian market, you can see the statement from Samsung below.

In the video below you will see a young woman walking around a New York park with four iPads attached to her head, this is definitely one of the strangest uses of the iPad we have seen.

| Nokia And Microsoft To Announce First Windows Phone 7 Handset 17th August Posted: 01 Aug 2011 11:49 PM PDT We have already seen some leaked photos and a video of Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 smartphone which is codenamed ‘Sea Ray’, and now it looks like we could be getting closer to an official announcement from the two companies which could come later this month. Microsoft and Nokia have announced that they are holding a joint special event in Cologne, Germany on the 17th of August, so we suspect the event will be used to unveil the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 device.

The guys over at Cnet have obtained some specifications on these new Android tablets, and according to the report the Sony S1 tablet will we available as a 16GB WiFi only version, a 16GB WiFi and 3G version, plus a 32GB WiFi only version and a 32GB WiFi and 3G model.

The major new feature in the latest version of Apple TV is the ability to stream TV shows that you have already purchased direct from the cloud, and you can also re-download them on other iOS devices if you have purchased them on your Apple TV.

| Apple’s iCloud Will Feature Web Apps Posted: 01 Aug 2011 11:21 PM PDT Apple has released iCloud beta for developers, along with the iCloud pricing, and it looks like iCloud will feature the same web apps as MobileMe plus some new ones. The guys over at Tech Crunch have been testing out the iCloud Beta, and have found some new web apps which include iCloud for Pages, iCloud for Keynote and iCloud for numbers.

| Posted: 01 Aug 2011 11:06 PM PDT Apple’s iCloud service is due to launch in September, the service will come with 5GB of free storage, but if you want extra storage how much is it going to cost, Apple has now revealed the pricing for the extra iCloud storage. In the US an extra 10GB of iCloud storage will cost you $20 a year, and extra 20GB of iCloud storage will cost you $40 a year and an extra 50GB of iCloud storage will cost you $100 a year.

| BMW Reveals i3 And i8 Electric Concepts (Video) Posted: 01 Aug 2011 10:57 PM PDT BMW is the latest car manufacturer who is interested in producing electric cars, and they have now unveiled two electric concept cars, the BMW i3 and the BMW i8, and whilst the i3 is designed to be like an SUV the i8 will be a hybrid vehicle with an electric motor and a 1.5 liter three cylinder engine. The BMW i3 will have around 170 horsepower and will have a top speed of 93MPH, so we suspect this one will be designed to be used around town, whilst the i8 will be more of a sports car with a 0-60MPH time of under 5 seconds.

| Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Sales Stopped By Apple Lawsuit In Australia (Updated) Posted: 01 Aug 2011 10:49 PM PDT The various court cases between Apple and Samsung are heating up, recently we heard that Apple has tried to ban imports of Samsung devices in the US, and then Samsung filed another complaint with the ITC. It would seem that the first device to be effected by the lawsuits is Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, which now wont go on sale in Australia until the case between the two companies is resolved.

| Sarcos XOS 2 Exoskeleton Turns You Into Iron Man (Video) Posted: 01 Aug 2011 10:41 PM PDT Some of our readers will remember the Sarcos XOS 2 Exoskeleton suit that we featured on the site last year, the manufacturers of the suit have now said that they should be putting it into production within the next five years. The video belows Actor Clark Gregg who starred in Iron Man 2 as Agent Coulson testing out the Sarcos XOS 2 suit and from the looks of the video the suit has improved since the last time we saw it.

| iPhone 5 Clones Appear In China Posted: 01 Aug 2011 10:32 PM PDT Apple hasn’t even announced the new iPhone 5 yet, which we are expecting to happen some time in September, but it would seem that the iPhone counterfeiters in China have a crystal ball as they have already started producing iPhone 5 clones, even though we don’t know exactly what the iPhone 5 will look like. We presume that counterfeiters have been reading many of the rumors over the past few months on what the iPhone 5 will look like and feature and they have come up with the following design.

The Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition is a full tower case which weighs in at 12.7Kg, and measures 584mm by 282mm by 590mm, and it comes with 300 x 200mm colorshift fans which change color, plus 1 x 140mm fan.

| Nokia 500 Symbian Anna Smartphone Announced Posted: 01 Aug 2011 10:00 PM PDT Nokia has added another smartphone to its range with the launch of the Nokia 500, and it will come with Symbian Anna and features a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. The Nokia 500 features a 1GHz processor and a five megapixel camera on the back, plus 2GB of built in storage, plus a microSD card slot which can take up to 32GB cards.
