Blackberry Bold 9930 Hits Verizon Wireless Website Price in Tow

Last month the Blackberry Bold 9930 turned up on the Verizon website on a video for us to gander at. We also know most of the spec of the smartphone already. What we didn't really know last month was when the smartphone would hit the website to purchase and how much it would cost.

Fancy Water Pistol Umbrella Can Get You In Trouble

Emotigraph Mechanically Conveys Your Emotional State

Not sure if these were staples in most 19th century homes but the Emotigraph sure is retrogressive. It’s actually another weird invention by Matthew Garten, who is no stranger to Geeky Gadgets. Last time Matthew was featured, however,the man was ears deep in his steampunk phase. The Emotigraph is wholly different. An almost Rube Goldberg device full of small working parts, how it works is pretty delightful.

Mr Freeze Batman: Arkham City, Trailer (video)

Omnifer Braille iPad Case

A new concept has been developed you the iPad which allows visually impaired users to be able to read information from an iPad using Braille. The ingenious Omnifer Braille iPad Case uses tiny gas pockets which expand when exposed to light to provide braille on one side of the iPad’ screen as text is streamed from messages and email into a custom application.

What Does Google’s Purchase Of Motorola Mobility Mean For Android?

Google just announced that they are purchasing Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion, but what will this mean for Google’s Android OS, which is supposed to be an open software platform.

In Google’s announcement, Google has said that the purchase of Motorola Mobility will strengthen Google’s patent portfolio, which they say will enable them to better protect Android from ‘anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and other companies’.

Quantum Phantom Allows You Control Your PC With Your Web Camera (video)

An interesting and innovative concept called Quantum Phantom has been created and developed over the past year by engineer and self-described dreamer Ben Wu.

Quantum Phantom has been designed to allow users to be able to control the cursor on your Windows system with a web camera. The concept allows a user to move windows, write and even draw on the screen without the use of anything other than a web camera. Google To Buy Motorola Mobility For $12.5 Billion

Google has announced that they will be purchasing Motorola Mobility in a deal worth $12.5 billion, and will mean that Google will now been in the hardware business for Android smartphones and tablets.

Motorola has produced a range of smartphones and a tablet, the Motorola Xoom which use Google’s Android OS, and the deal will come as a surprise to many, and probably Google’s other manufacturing partners who produce smartphones using Google’s Android.

HTC Vigor Appears Online, 720p HD Display Confirmed?

We have been hearing more and more about the HTC Vigor recently, last week we heard that it could be the first HTC smartphone to feature Beats Audio, after HTC purchased a 51 percent stake in the company.

Now the HTC Vigor has appeared on an online mobile phone retailers website, although it looks like it has now been taken down, but not before the guys over at HTC Inside managed to get a screenshot.

Intel Offers Core i3 Users Processors Upgrades Via Software

Intel has unveiled a new upgrade path available to Core i3 processor owners that will shortly allow them to upgrade their processor by unlocking it, via a software update from Intel, and providing you with that all important extra processing power.

Asus Eee Pad Slider Full Specifications Announced

We have been hearing about the new Asus Eee Pad Slider which is expected to go on sale next month for quite some time, we have already heard most of the specifications for the device, although we now have the full ones as Asus has now listed the Eee Pad slider on their website.

The Asus Eee Pad Slider will come with a 10.1 inch LED backlit WXGA display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and according to Asus the display supports 10 finger multi-touch gestures and comes with scratch resistant glass, plus a slide out QWERTY keyboard.

KinectFusion Project Models 3D Environments In Real-Time (video)

During the SIGGRAPH 2011 conference this week researchers have demonstrated how a Microsoft Kinect motion controller device can be used to map and create 3D models of environments. The project is called KinectFusion and using a Kinect device the research team can quickly and easily render a 3D model of an entire room in real-time.

Watch the video after the jump to see the KinectFusion project in action. The video also hints at possible applications for the KinectFusion technology within gaming and architecture, when virtual paintballs are fired in augmented reality.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Now Available In The UK

The new BlackBerry Bold 9900 went up for pre-order here in the UK last week, and it has now gone on sale in the UK with mobile carrier Vodafone, and is available with a range of mobile contracts.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 comes with a QWERTY keyboard plus a 2.8 inch touchscreen display, it is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and it also comes with a 5 megapixel camera.

iPhone 5 Launching In October, Not September?

Last week we heard a rumor that Apple’s iPhone 5 would be announced on  the 7th of September, now according to Kara Swisher from All Things D, this rumored launch date is incorrect and the iPhone 5 will launch in October.

Now if Apple does hold their annual iPod event in September, with the rumored date of the 7th of September, we suspect that they will announce the iPhone 5 at the same time, but it actually wont launch, or go on sale until October.

Innovative LA-EA2 Sony Lens Adapter Specifications Leaked

Over the past week or so a number of leaks have revealed a range of products from Sony’s new NEX 7 range. Well weeks leak is glimpse at Sony’s new LA-EA2 Lens Adapter designed to provide a convenient way for users to use a larger Sony lens on their new NEX cameras.

Rather than simply providing an adapter for the lens, Sony has taken its design a little further and installed a translucent mirror to help skim a little bit of the light from the image traveling to the camera, after which it is then redirected to a phase-detection autofocus sensor in the base.

Raspberry Pi $25 Computer Readies For Launch (video)

You may remember a little while back in May of this year we featured a super small computer which was being developed by David Braben, a UK game developer. Braden was developing the Raspberry Pi to allow school children to enjoy computer programming in schools with their own PC.

Well the new Raspberry Pi $25 or £15 PC is now entering the final stages of development and is preparing to launch to the public very soon, with alpha boards arriving from the factory this week for testing. Citrix Receiver Brings Windows To Chromebooks

If you need to access a Windows desktop from your Chromebook, you might be pleased to know that Citrix has this week launched a new client application called Citrix Receiver on to the Chrome Web Store. That will allow you to access your applications and Windows desktop at your office, home, or on the road.

Citrix Receiver has been available for sometime on Windows, iOS, Mac and BlackBerry and has now arrived on Google’s Chrome OS, and comes along at the same time Google has released a new update to their Chrome OS that brings with it VPN and secure Wi-Fi support (802.1X) features.

Samsung To Appeal European Galaxy Tab 10.1 Ban 25th Of August

Last week we heard that Apple had won an injunction against Samsung in  Europe, which banned Samsung from importing the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 into all European countries except the Netherlands.

The court in Germany which is dealing with the case between Apple and Samsung has scheduled a court hearing for the 25th of August, and no doubt Samsung will be able to appeal the injunction which was granted to Apple.

Windows Phone 7 Mango Leaked

Netflix Unveils New Child Friendly User Interface

Netflix has this week unveiled its new child friendly user interface (UI) that its been developing specifically for smaller users of their service. Currently the new child friendly navigation UI has a prominent scrolling bar at the top, showing favourite children characters such as Shawn the Sheep, Pingu, Hello Kitty and Big Bird to name  juts a few.

After a child clicks a featured character a new page then opens, (providing a similar feel of the BBC’s iPlayer app on the iPad) showing episodes featuring the character along the bottom. Netflix is developing their new UI to make the navigation for children more friendly and fun.

Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 Devices To Undercut Android Devices?

Nokia announced a while back that they intend for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform to be their major smartphone platform, and the deal between Nokia and Microsoft will enable Nokia to invest heavily in Windows Phone 7.

Now it would appear that Nokia intends to price its Windows Phone 7 devices competitively, particularly against the wide range of Android smartphones produced by a variety of manufacturers.

Smart Phone Note, Holds Your iPhone While You Take Notes

An interesting accessory has been developed  for Apple’s iPhone 4 which is currently on sale in Japan and called the Smart Phone Note. The design incorporates a writing notebook together with a holder for an iPhone, allowing you to position your iPhone above your writing area for easy viewing when writing notes.

The iPhone cutout within the Smart Phone Note allows you to position your iPhone in either landscape of portrait orientations and even allows you to carry the Notepad with the iPhone in location providing access to the headphone socket, enabling you to listen to tunes as you carry it.

TableDrum, The Augmented Reality iPhone And IPad Drum Kit (Video)

TableDrum is a new app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that lets you turn virtually anything into a drum kit, the app syncronizes the sound of any real object and then triggers a response in real time with drum sounds.

Goodyear Self Inflating Tires

Goodyear has announced a new innovation in tire technology that could soon make the humble tire pump to become obsolete. Goodyear’s new Air Maintenance Technology (AMT) will allow tires to remain inflated at the optimum pressure without the need for any external pumps or electronics, and have been designed to help improve safety and reduce fuel costs for users.

Even slightly under pressure tires can lead to an increase in fuel costs and if Goodyears new self inflating tire technology can help haulage companies and consumers save money its going to be a very welcome new product.

Electra One, The Solar Powered Electric Plane (Video)

We have featured quite a few green gadgets and solar powered devices here at Geeky Gadgets, including a number of electric powered cars, but I think this is the first electric powered plane we have featured.

The Electra One is an electric plane which can fly for up to three hours at 100mph on one charge, and the plane is charged when it is placed in its hangar that featured solar panels on the roof.

Amazon Cleans Up Its Kindle Store, Removing Duplicate Content

If you use an Amazon Kindle or one it its supporting applications on a tablet or smartphone you are sure to have noticed the increase in low quality and duplicate content trying to cash in on the surge in popularity with e-Books, which has appeared in the Kindle e-Book Store over the past months.

The low quality e-Books and duplicate content have been repackaged in a flood of  e-Books under a retail concept known as "private label rights," or P.L.R. The surge of this kind of e-Book has always been a concern for Amazon as it will certainly damage the quality associated to their Kindle Store.

Samsung Galaxy S Launching In US 29th Of August?

The Samsung Galaxy S II has been available in Europe for a while now, it has still to go on sale in the US, but now it looks like the wait is over as Samsung has scheduled a special event in New York for the 29th of August.

We suspect Samsung will officially been announcing the Samsung Galaxy S II for the US, and we will find out when it will be available with the major mobile carriers in the US.

Apple Releases Of New Cupertino Space Ship Campus

Back in June we heard that Apple has plans to build a new ‘Space Ship’ campus in Cupertino, on the 98 acres of land they acquired from HP, and now Apple has release some new images which show what the campus will look like if it is built.

Apple will probably get the go ahead for the Campus, as when it was announced the Cupertino Council made it clear that they intended to work with Apple to make the campus a reality.

Nokia N9 Turns Up On Amazon For $500

We recently heard from Nokia that they had decided not to sell the new Nokia N9 in the US and UK, but now it would appear that a SIM free version of the Nokia N9 has appeared on Amazon, which would mean you would be able to but it in the US after all.

According to the Amazon listing, the Nokia N9 is available SIM free for $500 for the 16GB model of $650 for the 64GB model it it will apparently ship on the 23rd of September.

Mozilla is scheduled to release Firefox 6 Beta tomorrow, but it looks like the files have already been released for Windows, Mac and Linux and are now available to download a day earlier than scheduled.

Unfortunately there aren’t any release notes as yet for Firefox 6 Beta , we can expect to get those tomorrow when it is officially released, although Firefox 6 brings a range of changes to Mozilla’s popular web browser.

Prototype MacBook Pro With Built In 3G Appears On eBay

One of the features that many people would like to see in Apple’s MacBook Pro is a built in 3G modem, Apple has yet to release a MacBook Pro with built in 3G, and now a prototype MacBook Pro with built in 3G has turned up on eBay.

The prototype MacBook Pro is a 15 inch model from 2007, so at least we know Apple has been working on built in 3G for the MacBook Pro, although we do wonder why they haven’t released one as yet, the photos below show it has a built in 3G antenna and a 3G SIM card slot.

Google Looks To Help Android Developers In Lodsys Patent Cases

Lodsys a company which owns some patents relating to in app purchases for mobile devices are in the process or suing Apple’s iOS developers and Google’s Android developers.

We have heard quite a bit from Apple on this, who are attempting to act on behalf of its iOS developers, but we hadn’t heard anything from Google, until now.

HTC Holiday Prototype Leaked

We have already seen a photo and heard some specifications on the HTC Holiday, and now a prototype of the HTC Holiday has appeared on Craigslist, and the device was purchased by one of the guys from the XDA Developers.

The photos show the device with a broken display, but if you have a look at the back of the HTC Holiday there is some sort of inductive charging on the back.
