Tiny Glass Lens Could Be Used For Smartphone Projectors

Alps Electrical has developed a tiny aspherical glass lens that could be used in future smartphones for projectors, the lens measures just 1.0 by 1.0 by 0.8mm making it one of the world’s smallest of this type of lens.

The FLGS3 lens and these type of lenses are used in transceiver modules for optical communications, and are currently used for undersea cables and base stations, but they have also started to be used in palm sized projectors.

Sharp Galapagos A01SH 7 inch Android Honeycomb Tablet Announced

Sharp is the latest company to add a new Android tablet to their range with the launch of the Sharp Galapagos A01SH, which will come with a 7 inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixel and will run Android Honeycomb 3.2.

The Sharp Galapagos A01SH comes with a dual core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, plus 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built in storage, there are two cameras with a 5 megapixel camera on the back with an LED flash and a two megapixel camera up front for video chat.

GameBox For Facebook Enables Facebook Games On Your iPad

If you enjoy playing Facebook games but would prefer to move a little further away from your computer and be able to play on your iPad. You will be pleased to know that a new application just added to the Apple iTunes Store called GameBox For Facebook, will allow you to do just that.

Currently Gamebox for Facebook only allows you to play a couple of Facebook games: Digital Chocolate's Army Attack, and Zynga's CityVille, but more games area expected to be added shortly.

Sony S1 And S2 Leaked Screenshots Reveal Android Honeycomb 3.2

Yesterday we saw a new video from Sony teasing us on their new S1 and S2 Android tablets, we know that these two new Android tablets will come with Honeycomb, but we didn’t know which version until now.

Both the Sony S1 and Sony S2 Android tablets will come with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and the details were revealed by the guys over at Carrypad who spotted some screen shots on a Sony support site, the screen shots have now been pulled from the Sony site, but you can see some of them below.

Qbo Open Source Robot Can Now Control Music Via Hand Gestures (video)

Qbo the cute open source robot created by the Thecorpora, which was created around six years ago, to provide a low cost, open-source robot enabling anyone to enter the robotics and the artificial intelligence world. Has now been updated to recognise hand gestures to control the playback of music.

Qbo has been programmed to use its stereoscopic vision and only pay attention to hands that are nearby, successfully distinguish, in real-time, among several hand gestures associated with several commands including: play/pause, stop, volume up/down, next/previous song. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

Sony PS Vita US And UK Launch Delayed Until 2012

When Sony announced the PS Vita earlier in the year, we also heard that their new handheld gaming console would go on sale before the end of 2011, now it looks like it will only be Japan that will get the PS Vita before the end of the year.

Sony’s executive vice president, Kazuo Hirai has announced that the Sony PS Vita will go on sale in Japan by the end of the year but it wont go on sale in the UK, US and Europe until 2012.

Skype Enables Video On 17 More Android Devices

Skype has today rolled out a new version of its Android Skype application to 2.1 which brings with it video call support for an additional 17 of the most popular Android devices.

But even if your Android phone is not listed, if you are using Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above, you should still be able to enable video calling in your Skype settings. If you can not see the video call settings on your device then unfortunately at the moment your Android smartphone is not compatible.

HTC’s Bootloader Unlocking Tool Details Revealed

The last thing we heard about HTC’s bootloader unlocking tool for its Android devices that it would be available some time in August, HTC has now confirmed they are still on track for an August release and have also revealed some details on how the tool will work.

The bootloader unlocking tool for HTC devices will be available as a web tool and you will have to register an account with HTC, then plug your HTC smartphone into your PC with the Android SDK loaded to retrieve a device identifier token, this token can then be entered into the web tool and a unique unlock key will be sent to you via email.

3 Lego Minifigs Flying To Jupiter On NASA’s Juno Spacecraft

When NASA’a Juno spacecraft is hopefully launched tomorrow on its journey to Jupiter, the spacecraft will be carrying a rather strange cargo of three 1.5 inch tall Lego Minifigs representing Galileo Galilei, the Roman god Jupiter and his wife Juno.

NASA engineers thought it would be fun to include the three Lego Minifigs on the flight to Jupiter and Lego was pleased to help create the three Minifigs sculpted from solid aluminium at a cost of $15,000.

Gmail Web App Updated With Retina Icons And Pull Down To Refresh Feature

Google has rolled out a new update to their mobile Gmail web application designed to bring it more inline with a native application you might find on Apple’s iPhone 4. To make the feel of  their Gmail web app a little more polished, Google has now added high resolution icons, providing a smoother and sharper user interface on retina display smartphones.

Other new features included in this update include a new Pull-to-refresh feature, that makes it quicker and easier to check for new messages and download them to your smartphone. As explained in the digram below there is now a bar along the top which if flicked down and released will now start the send and receive process.

Google Releases Latest Android Platform Distribution Details

Google has released new statistics on its Android platform distribution, and the statistics show that many users are still on Android 2.2 Froyo, with around 55.9 percent of users still on Android 2.2.

Next up is Android 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 Gingerbread with 23.7 percent of all devices using Gingerbread, after that we have Android 2.1 on 15.2 percent, Android 1.6 using just 2 percent and Android 1.5 just 1.3 percent.

Worlds Smallest Battery Is 60,000 Times Smaller Than A Single AAA Battery

If you take a peak into any of the recent gadgets, tablets, notebooks and smartphone devices that have been dissected by the likes of iFixit and others. Find My Mac Coming In iCloud

Apple’s find my iPhone is a useful applications if you lose your phone or its gets stolen, now Apple are releasing a version for the Mac called Find My Mac, which will let you track the location of your Mac if it has been lost or stolen.

Unlike the iPhone version which uses GPS, Find My Mac will rely on nearby WiFi networks to tell you the location of your Mac, and once located you will be able to send a message to the Mac , or remotely lock the screen or even wipe the hard drive.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Hits The UK August 12th?

We have been hearing a lot about Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 recently, but what about their new Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet? The last thing we heard was that it had turned up on Amazon Germany, but there were no details on when it would actually launch.

Now the Galaxy Tab 8.9 has turned up on Amazon UK, and Amazon have it listed with a shipping date of the 12th of August, which is next Friday, so that looks like it could be the possible UK launch date.

HTC To Launch Up To Eight New Smartphones This Quarter

HTC’s smartphones have become incredibly popular over the last few years, mainly thanks to Google’s Android OS, and they also produce Windows Phone 7 smartphones.

Now HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou has announced that the company will launch between six and eight new smartphones this quarter, and whilst he didn’t give details of any models that will be announced, we suspect that we will see some of the rumored devices we have heard about over the last few months.

Pierre Cardin Launches ‘Designer’ Android Tablet

Pierre Cardin has launched what it is calling the ‘UK’s first designer tablet PC’, and this new tablet features a 7 inch capacitive multi-touch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and it comes with Android 2.2 Froyo.

Other specifications on the Pierre Cardin tablet include a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM 4GB of built in storage plus a microSD card slot that can take up to 16GB cards.

Samsung’s Australian Galaxy Tab 10.1 Launch Event Postponed

First we heard that Samsung had decided not to launch the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia until it an Apple settle their differences through court on the lawsuit that Apple is bringing against Samsung on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and other devices.

Then Samsung announced that they would be launching the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, although it would be a different version than the US version that Apple are disputing, Samsung were scheduled to launch the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia next week, the event has now been cancelled and Samsung has released the following statement.

Activision has announced its fourth pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops, the latest one is called Call Of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection, and it will be released for the Xbox 360 first on the 23rd of August and then for the PS3 and PC at a later date.

Samsung Shows Off TouchWiz UX For Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Video)

It’s A reason, just probably not a good one, as, let’s face it, all of those people dropping their cash in Activision’s lap weren’t exactly on their way to buy the Ico/Killer 7/Okami special edition combo box-set and got stuck with nationalist military fantasies about men named Soap by mistake.
