| Microsoft’s Windows Phone Gaining In Europe Posted: 22 Jan 2013 07:01 AM PST It looks like Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is gaining ground in Europe according to a recent report by Kantar Worldpanel, Microsoft has increased its share of the smartphone market in the UK from 2.2 percent to 5.9 percent in the last quarter of 2012. Microsoft has also seen good sales of Windows Phone device in other European countries, with a 13.9 percent share of the smartphone market in Italy, this is up from 2.8 percent.

| Verizon Sold 6.2 Million iPhones In Quarter 4 Posted: 22 Jan 2013 06:44 AM PST Apple are going to be announcing their financial results tomorrow and we will find out just how many iPhone’s the company sold in their last quarter, although Verizon have just announced their latest quarter results and in the results was the news that they sold 6.2 million iPhones in quarter 4 of 2012. Verizon ended up selling a total of 9.8 million smartphones in quarter four, and whilst 6.2 million of these were iPhones, we also get some details on Android devices, Verizon sold a total of 3.6 million Android smartphones in quarter four.

| Apple Has 51 Percent Share Of US Smartphone Market In Q4 2012 Posted: 22 Jan 2013 06:18 AM PST According to a new report by research firm Kantar Worldpanel, Apple has taken the top spot in the US smartphone market for the final quarter of 2012, with a 51.2 percent share for the 12 week period up to the 23rd of December 2012. Android is in second place with a 44.2 percent share of the US smartphone market, they also revealed some details on the various mobile carriers, with AT&T grabbing the largest share of 33.3 percent which was then followed by Verizon with a 32 percent share.

| AT&T Acquires Alltel’s US Wireless Operations for $780 Million Posted: 22 Jan 2013 06:05 AM PST US mobile carrier AT&T has made another acquisition, this time it is the US retail wireless business of Alltel, and the deal is reported to be worth around $780 million US dollars. The deal means that AT&T will acquire Alltel’s wireless properties, network assets, around 585,000 subscribers and licenses, and AT&T are hoping the deal will improve its coverage in rural areas.

| Samsung Galaxy S4 To Be Announced March 22nd At Samsung Unpacked Event (Rumor) Posted: 22 Jan 2013 05:42 AM PST Earlier today we heard that Samsung are expected to star selling the Samsung Galaxy S4 in April, which would mean that the device would either be unveiled at Mobile World Congress next month, or at a separate Samsung Unpacked event in March. Now it would appear that we may have a possible date for a Samsung Unpacked event or the 22nd of March, which would sound about right if Samsung intend to start selling the Galaxy S4 in April.

| Hilco Takes Over Troubled UK Retailer HMV Posted: 22 Jan 2013 05:20 AM PST UK music and video store HMV recently went into administration, and now it would appear there is some good news for the company as it has been taken over by Hilco, who already owns HMV Canada. Hilco has purchased the debts of HMV, which are rumored to be around £176 million from Lloyds and the Royal Bank of Scotland, this now gives Hilco control over HMV in the UK.

The Samsung Ativ Smart PC features an 11 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768, and is powered by a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor, it also comes with 2GB of RAM.

| Sony Working On 6.44 Inch Full HD Smartphone Posted: 22 Jan 2013 03:06 AM PST It looks like Sony may be the latest company working on a large screen smartphone, as a photo had been leaked of a Sony branded display which measures 6.44 inches, you can see the display in the photo below, which was posted to Chinese language website Difi-wo forum. Sony just recently announced their Xperia Z, which features a 5 inch display, and the company also mentioned recently that they would be concentrating on higher end devices.
