Philips Vital Signs App Uses Your iPad 2 Camera To Measure Your Heart Rate And Breathing (video)

It does sound a little far fetched, but Phillips have created and this week launched a new iPad 2 application called Vital Signs Camera. Which has been designed to monitor your heart rate and breathing remotely, by just using the iPad 2′s camera.

The new Vital Signs application is able to measure your heart rate by just using the colour of your face, and measure your breathing by monitoring the motion of your chest.

BlackBerry Bold 9790 Headed To Vodafone And O2 UK

Earlier this week RIM announced its latest BlackBerry smartphones, one of those is the new BlackBerry Bold 9790, and it looks like it will be headed to at least two mobile carriers here in the UK, O2 and Vodafone.

According to the guys over at Unwired View the Bold 9790 will be available to enterprise customers with Vodafone and will be available to everyone on O2 some time in January next year.

SwiftKey X Keyboard Android App Updated With Multitouch Typing Support

SwiftKey has today rolled out a new update for its SwiftKey X Android application, which brings with it support for multitouch typing. Together with full language support for French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, now making 35 languages fully support by the SwiftKey X application.

Other new features include updates to its Fluency engine, which have been tweaked to reduce memory load and provide more efficient and faster response times whilst typing.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Headed To AT&T?

It looks like the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus could be headed to mobile carrier AT&T in the US, as the device has turned up at the FCC with HSPA+ bands which suggests it will be landing on AT&T.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus features a dual core 1.2 GHz processor and comes with a 7 inch multi-touch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

iPhone 4S Owners Reporting SIM Card Problems

There have been a number of problems reported for the iPhone 4S since it was launched, and also some for other devices including the iPhone 4, with iOS 5, the main one being the battery problems reported by a number of users.

Now it would appear that there may be another problem, although from early reports this one is exclusive to the iPhone 4S, some users have reported that their handset has stopped recognizing their SIM card.

Nintendo Builds Full Size Mario Carts (video)

Nintendo has this week unveiled two full size Mario carts its had made by West Coast Customs, to promote the launch of its new Mario Cart 7 game which will launch in December.

The two cars consist of the classic Mario Standard kart, complete with glider attachment, and the Luigi Bumble V kart, equipped with a rear propeller just incase you need to navigate underwater.

iBuyPower has added another high end gaming PC to their range with the launch of the Chimera 4, which comes with a choice of Intel Core i4, i7 and AMD FX-4100 processors.

Other specifications include up to 64GB of DDR 3 RAM, a choice of multiple AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards and enough room for 8 internal hard drives, with up to 24TB of storage.

iShred Snowboard Inspired By Steve Jobs (Video)

The team over at Signal Snowboards have a regular feature called ‘Every Third Thursday’ in which they create some weird and wonderful snowboard creations. In a tribute to Steve Jobs the team has built the iShred, a snowboard equipped with an iPad and other electronics inspired by Apple products and Steve Jobs.

Watch the video after the jump to see the team constructing the snowboard and overcoming a number of problems while trying to incorporate some flashy electronics and an aluminium base.

US Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launching 21st November?

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus went on sale in the UK yesterday, and now it looks like it will launch in the US next Monday, the 21st of November, a date we have previously heard would be the launch date on Verizon Wireless.

The guys over at the Verge have been told by Google that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus should be available ‘pretty much everywhere’ from the 21st of November.

BMW i8 And i3 Concepts To Debut At LA Autoshow (Video)

Some of our readers will remember the BMW i3 and i8 concept cars that we showed you a while back, both models will be shown off at this weeks LA Auto Show, and both cars feature hybrid engines.

As a reminder, the BMW i3 will have around 170 horsepower and will have a top speed of 93MPH, so we suspect this one will be designed to be used around town, whilst the i8 will be more of a sports car with a 0-60MPH time of under 5 seconds.

New Metallic Micro Lattice Becomes The Worlds Lightest Material

A new metallic micro-lattice material which has been developed by a team of researchers from the University of California, has become the world’s lightest material. The new micro-lattice material is so light it can be placed on top of dandelion fluff without causing it damage, as shown in the image below.

The new materials super lightness is due to the way it has been constructed using interconnecting hollow nickel-phosphorous tubes which create a micro-lattice. The nickel-phosphorous tubes have a wall thickness of 100 nanometers, which is the equivalent of 1,000 times thinner than a human hair.

Sony’s PlayStation 3 Celebrates Its 5th Birthday Today

This week has seen two of the major gaming consoles celebrating their birthdays. With Microsoft’s Xbox celebrating its tenth birthday earlier this week, together with Sony celebrating its PlayStation 3 gaming console and PlayStation Network turning five years old.

Five years ago today the PlayStation Network and PlayStation 3 launched in the United States and brought with it a Blue-ray DVD player to gamers. When it originally launched the PS3 came with a 60GB hard drive.

Samsung Galaxy Note Lands On O2 UK

The Samsung Galaxy Note went on sale here in the UK recently, the version that was available was the SIM free model, and now mobile retailer O2 are selling the Samsung Galaxy Note with their range of contracts.

The Samsung Galaxy Note is available for £249.99 on O2′s cheapest 24 month contract which costs £16.50 a month and it is also available on their 18 month c0ntracts.

Nikon iP-PJ Transfer App Allows You To Project Media Via Your Coolpix S1200pj

Nikon has today launched their newly updated application called the Nikon iP-PJ which now allows you to use the integrated projector in their Coolpix S1200pj camera to project media from your iPhone 4 or similar iOS device.

Any images projected through the camera will be scaled down to the Coolpix S1200pj camera’s 1024 x 768 projector resolution. But the application and projector camera combo will allow you to view slideshows and the streaming of YouTube content.

Amazon Working On Smartphone To Take On IPhone?

Amazon launched its first Android tablet this week, the Amazon Kindle Fire, and now there are rumors that Amazon may be developing their own smartphone, which would probably run Google’s Android OS.

The rumor comes from Gitigroup, who have said that we may see an Amazon smartphone in quarter 2012, based on analysis of supply chains, and Amazon are reported to be working with FIH on the device.

FXI Cotton Candy USB Stick Transforms Any Screen In To An Android System

This week FXI has unveiled its new Cotton Candy device which is a new USB stick capable of transforming HDTV, laptops, phones, tablets, or set-top boxes into dumb terminals for the devices Android operating system to run.

The Cotton Candy device, is equipped with a USB 2.0 connector at one end and a HDMI jack on the other. Its powered by a dual-core 1.2-GHz Samsung Exynos ARM CPU, which is the same one used in the Galaxy S II.

Google Music App Launched For Google TV

After a long delay Google has finally jumped in to the music market and yesterday launched their Google Music service. Wasting no time Google has followed up yesterdays launch and has today announced the release of its new Google Music application, designed specifically for Google TV. Google’s Motorola Takeover Approved By Stockholders

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Gets Reviewed

Google’s first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus went on sale in the UK yesterday, and now the first reviews of the Galaxy Nexus have started to appear online.

As a reminder, the Galaxy Nexus features a massive 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and it also comes with a dual core 1.2GHz processor and an advanced 5 megapixel camera on the back, pls a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime Goes Up For Pre-Order In Germany

Asus’s second generation Transformer tablet, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime will go on sale in December, and the device is now available to pre-order in Germany from Amazon.

As a reminder the Transformer Prime comes with a 10.1 inch LED backlit Super IPS+ touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, it will launch with Android Honeycomb 3.2, although ti will be upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS shortly after release.

HTC Quattro Tegra 3 Tablet Leaked

It looks like HTC’s latest Android tablet has been leaked, called the HTC Quattro, the device is expected to come with NVIDIA’s new quad core Tegra 3 processor and will feature a 10.1 inch touchscreen display.

Other rumored specifications on the HTC Quattro include 16GB of built in storage, 1GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, and the display is reported to come with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels.

Totally Unnecessary: Street Legal Garia LSV Golf Cart

The above is right on the greenbacks, by the way. Because unless golf courses will start sprouting up in public spaces like parks, only then can a street legal cart be of some value. Then again, when the gas runs out maybe it is a good idea to start moving around in golf carts. Besides, who rides around in a golf cart thinking they’ve got it made? Probably that guy in the promo pic below, cruising through Times Square like an entitled Master of the Universe. He won’t be smiling once he runs into the #OWS crowd, who’ll probably mistake him for a one percenter and pelt him with harsh language.

It’s quite obvious not a lot of imagination went into the title above. Give it a break and just let this post run its usual course. Besides, this pocket gadget might be of interest among Bluetooth diehards, i.e. anyone with a smartphone. Found in the depths of online electronics hive Brando, the TK2 is blessed with Bluetooth v2.1 multipoint awesomeness. The big deal is it can be sued to receive calls from different Bluetooth enabled devices.
