Google Rolls Out New Update For Android Docs And Reader Applications

Following on from the roll-out of its new Reader service update yesterday Google has now rolled out updates to its Android Reader application and its Google Docs Android application.

The new Google Reader app v1.1.1 version is now equipped with Android 4.0 designed user interface together with matching widgets and the ability to now navigate using gestures. With the removal of the old previous and next buttons, users can now move between posts/entries by swiping left to right or right to left on the screen.

HTC Rezound Press Shots Leaked Ahead Of Official Launch

HTC are holding a press conference in New York later today where they are expected to unveil the new HTC Rezound android smartphone that we have been hearing so much about over the last few weeks.

Motorola Xoom 2 And Xoom 2 Media Edition UK Price Revealed

Earlier today Motorola announced two new Android tablets, the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition and now it looks like we may have some pricing for both tablets here in the UK.
According to the guys over at Clove the Motorola Xoom 2 will retail for £325 plus taxes, which would mean it would retail for £390 and the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition will retail for £299 plus taxes which would mean it would cost £345 including taxes.

Kobox Vox Android Tablet Now Available

Some of our readers will remember the Kobo Vox Android tablet that was announced last month, it is now available for $299 and it comes with Kobo’s eBook store which has access to over 2.2 million eBooks, with about 1 million which are available for free.

The Kobo Vox Android tablet comes with a 7 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, there is also an 800MHz processor plus 512MB of RAM and 8GB of built in storage.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Starts Shipping

One of Samsung’s latest tablets is the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus which went up for pre-order in the US recently and is due to go on sale on the 15th of November, although it would appear that Amazon has already started shipping the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus comes with a 7 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, plus Android 3.2 Honeycomb, plus a dual core 1.2GHz processor.

iPawn Interactive Pieces Add A New Twist To iPad Gaming (video)

The idea of an interactive gaming piece which would be able to interact with your iOS device was first introduced back in August 2010. But this week iPawns have been launched and have been designed to transform your digital iPad into an interactive old school style game board.

The iPawns have been created from a special ABS plastic that allows them to conduct the energy from your fingers to the iPad’s display. So while you are not touching the iPawn on the screen they can sit dormant and unrecognised by the iPad, but as soon as you pick up an iPawn the iPad will automatically recognise your move. Sony Patents Biometric Handheld Consoles And PS3 Controllers

It has been discovered by the Siliconera website that Sony has been busy registering patents for biometric handheld consoles and PS3 controllers. Which would allow the devices to be able to receive feedback from your body as you play.

The Sony patents include controllers and handheld consoles with sensors built in design that would be able to read your electro muscular data. In layman’s terms your muscle contractions and skin conductivity using the amount of moisture on your skin. Together with the ability to be able to read your heart rate.

New Boogie Board RIP Now Has Onboard Storage

Improv Electronics the makers of the original Boogie Board have this week launched their new version called the Boogie Board RIP which now comes with built-in on-board storage allowing you to save your notes.

The new design is equipped with a 9.5 inch scratch resistant LCD display onto which you can scribble your notes using the included plastic stylus. The benefit of the Boogie Board RIP is its internal 8 MB storage which is enough to be able to allow you to store around 200 notes at a time.

Robotic Spiders Have Been Designed For Hazardous Missions

If you don’t like spiders this might be your worst nightmare, but the Fraunhofer Institute have unveiled their new spider robot which has been designed to be highly mobile and uses hydraulics and bellow system to force fluid into its legs to enable it to scurry about.

A number of versions of the spider robot have been created by the Institute and some have even been designed to jump. The spider robots have been created to be able them crawl into small tight spaces inaccessible by humans to check for leaks and problems.

Swiss Engineers Create Worlds First Gold Coated Thread

If you enjoy a little bling in your clothes you will be pleased to hear a team of Swiss engineers have now been able to create the world’s first 24 carat gold coated silk. Enabling fashion designers to be even more extravagant with their creations in their next fashion show.

The thread is coated with nanometre thin layer of pure gold which can now be created thanks to a new process developed by EMPA. As you can see by the photo below its already been applied to make bowties, handkerchiefs and ties even more snappy.

Android Now Makes Up 43 Percent Of US Smartphone Market

According to research firm Neilsen, Google’s Android OS now accounts for 43 percent of the US smartphone market for quarter three of 2011, and increase from the 39 percent share in the second quarter.

Apple’s iOS device are apparently in second place with a 28 percent share, around what it was in the previous quarter, whilst RIM’s BlackBerry has dropped down from 20 percent in quarter 2 to 18 percent in quarter three.

Nokia Cancels Nokia 600 Symbian Smartphone

Back in August Nokia announced three new Symbian smartphones that would come with Symbian Belle, one of those was the new Nokia 600, but now it would appear that the company has decided not to release the Nokia 600.

The Nokia 600 was due to go on sale for about 180 Euros and it featured a 1 GHz processor, a 5 megapixel camera, NFC, Bluetooth, and lots more, obviously Nokia has decided to focus its efforts on other devices.

Nokia Lumia 710 To Hit T-Mobile US In January?

Nokia’s first new Windows Phone smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 800 will go on sale in Europe later this month, the other Windows Phone handset that Nokia announced was the Lumia 710.

When it was announced Nokia said it would be available in early 2012, and now according to a recent report it could be headed to T-Mobile in the US, some time in January, which would tie in with what Nokia has said previously about launching their Windows Phone devices in the US.

Nokia To Bring Tethering To Lumia 800 Windows Phone

Nokia recently announced its first Windows Phone devices, the Nokia Lumia 710 and the Nokia Lumia 800, the Lumia 800 will go on sale in Europe later this month, and it looks like Nokia will be releasing a software update to add new features to their flagship Windows Phone.

Miniature Surveillance Insects Under Development By The Military (video)

It may come as no surprise to you to know but the American Airforce is currently deep into the developments stages of creating surveillance insects which can fly wherever needed to provide reconnaissance and intelligence without the enemy even knowing.

The small winged surveillance insect pictured below has no camera connected to it but shows just how far the research has already come. Also if the US Air Force is happy to show details of the developments you can bet the stage they are probably on at the moment is far removed from the image below. LG Optimus 3D Gingerbread Update Coming This Month

It looks like the LG Optimus 3D will be finally getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, and according to the guys over at Android Central the update should be released on the 21st of November.

Apple Planning To Add DropBox Like Feature To iCloud?

Apple recently launched iOS 5 and iCloud, along with the new iPhone 4S,, in our iPhone 4S review, where we also tested Apple’s new iCloud service, we noticed one feature that was missing, the ability to store files in iCloud like you used to be able to do with Apple’s MobileMe service.

This is one thing that iCloud is missing, and a feature that many previous MobileMe users, myself included will miss, but it would appear that Apple may have plans to add some sort of file storage service into iCloud, possibly something similar to DropBox.

Finder Concept Allows You To Find Those Lost Belongings

If you are like me and misplace your car keys or mobile phone just as you are about to dash out of the house. A new concept called Finder has been designed which uses RFID tags to help you locate those lost items quickly. Just make sure you don’t miss place the Finder itself.

The system works by allowing you to attach small RFID tags to your belongings which are then used to locate them when they lost by using the Finder device, as demonstrated in the picture below.

PlayBase Child Friendly Android Tablet

Karuma have this week unveiled their new PlayBase Android tablet which has been specifically designed for children to use. It’s equipped with a 7 inch multitouch display and is constructed from metal rather than plastic providing it with a much more robust and child friendly construction.

The PlayBase tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz ARM Coretex A8 processor from RockChip, which is supported by 1 GB of RAM together with 8 GB of internal storage. It’s also equipped with built-in Wi-Fi and internal battery which can provide up to 5 hours of use from a single charge.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime Appears At The FCC

We recently heard that Asus’s second generation Transformer tablet may go on sale next week, as Asus is expected to officially announce the new Eee Pad Transformer Prime on the 9th of November.

And now more evidence has appeared which would leak us to believe that Asus is getting ready to launch the Transformer Prime, as the device has now turned up at the FCC.

HP Slate 2 Windows 7 Tablet Announced

HP has updated its original Windows 7 tablet, the HP Slate, and the new model looks almost exactly the same as the previous version, although it has had a bit of a bump on specifications.

The HP Slate 2 comes with Windows 7, and it features an 8.9 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and it is now powered by a 1.5GHz Intel Atom Z670 processor.

iPad 2 Smart Cover Hack Fixed In iOS 5.0.1

You might remember the Apple Smart Cover hack which was able to allow anyone to access your iPad 2 by simply closing and opening the magnetic Smart Cover.

If you were a little concerned about the problem you will be pleased to know that Apple has now corrected the issue in the next iOS release 5.0.1, which has now been released to developers. In the new release Apple have changed the way the Smart Cover puts your iPad 2 to sleep when the 'slide to power off' button is displayed, closing the security issue.

iPad 3 To Be A Minor Upgrade Over iPad 2?

We have been hearing rumors for quite some time that Apple would launch an iPad with a higher resolution display than the existing iPad 2 and the original iPad, and it has been though that the iPad 3 would come with this new higher resolution display.

Now according to a recent report by DigiTimes, the iPad 3 will be a minor upgrade to the existing iPad 2, with the same display but a slightly thinner design and a higher capacity battery.

BlackBerry Torch 9810 Lands On T-Mobile 9th November

T-Mobile has announced that the new BlackBerry Torch 9810 will be available from T-Mobile in the US from the 9th of November, and the device will be available for $249.99 after a mail in rebate when you sign up to a new two year contract with T-Mobile.

The BlackBerry Torch 9810 comes with a 3.2 inch touchscreen display, plus a slide out QWERTY keyboard, processing is provided by a single core 1.2GHz processor and there is also a 5 megapixel camera which can record HD video in 720p.

Grand Theft Auto V Official Trailer Unveiled By Rockstar (video)

As advertised last week Rockstar Games have now released their first official teaser trailer for their new Grand Theft Auto V which runs for a glorious 1 minute and 24 seconds. Showing a glimpse of what you can expect from the next game in series once its released.

The release of GTA V comes three years after last instalment GTA IV and shows Rockstar’s take on Los Angeles with the narrator in the trailer talking about moving to the city to retire and being a father. Enjoy!

Google Removes Gmail App For Apple App Store

Users of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch have been waiting for quite some time for Google to release an official Gmail app for iOS devices, yesterday Google released their Gmail app for iOS.

The app was available to download from the iTunes app store for a few hours, but many users reported problems with the App, the main problem being push notifications and other bugs, and it looks like Google has now pulled the app from the app store.

iOS 5 Battery Problems Confirmed By Apple, Update In The Works

Apple has confirmed that they have found a problem within iOS 5 that is causing some users of the new iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 to have problems with battery life on their devices, something which has been widely reported over the last week.

Amazon Launches Kindle Owners Lending Library

Amazon has launched a new service for owners of its Kindle devices, the Kindle Owners Lending Library, which is available to anyone who has an Amazon Prime membership, and users will be able to borrow books from the library for free.

According to Amazon, the Kindle Owners Lending Library comes with thousands of books which users can borrow for free, and the list includes over 100 books from the current and formers New York Times bestseller list.

iTunes Match Shows Up On Apple TV

We were expecting Apple to launch its new iTunes Match service before the end of October, it would appear Apple are getting closer to releasing iTunes Match, as Apple has released a new version of iTunes Beta to developers which includes iTunes Match.

iTunes Match has now appeared on the Apple TV device, although the only people who are able to use iTunes Match at the moment are developers, who can activate the service via their Mac.

Headscratcher: Facedrink Is Allegedly A Non-Alcoholic Social Drink

Can’t argue the veracity of its claims because it says so on the product page. Apparently, judging by the promotional material available, a certain Barry Moustapha is the entrepreneur behind Facedrink. It’s a suspiciously blue liquid that you’re supposed to ingest for “the extra energy needed to be social or to deal with your boss.” So how horrible does your boss need to be for a pseudo-energy drink to work?
