Double Fine Going After Stacking, Costume Quest Rights

Posted: 12 May 2013 04:21 PM PDT

Double Fine used to be known for two things: CEO Tim Schafer and his ridiculously great games made at LucasArts and amazing ball of amazingness Psychonauts. Nowadays, Double Fine is home to a lot more games after a change of direction following the troubled development of Brutal Legend saw the studio quickly release multiple smaller games instead of one huge one.

Posted: 12 May 2013 03:57 PM PDT

EVE Online Diablo 3 ain’t. While players of the Icelandic MMO giant’s opus are all but encouraged to try and wreck the game’s economy and exploiters keep their loot after loopholes are plugged, Blizzard is nowhere near as forgiving. The recent Auction House exploit that allowed players to make out like bandits has been closed and the 415 cheaters dealt with.

Wi-Fi at 30,000 Feet

Wi-Fi

On May 9th, 2013, the Federal Communications Commission said they're planning on auctioning the right to use new airwaves that would improve in-flight Wi-Fi connections. The overall goal is to provide Wi-Fi that is equal to – or even better than – the connection most people experience in their own homes.

The new method of in-flight works by allowing better contact between the plane and the ground, and would allow internet service providers to share airwaves with satellite communication companies. The vote to move forward with auctioning off such licenses ended up unanimous, although it'll still likely take years for better Wi-Fi to actually get off the ground.

The long suffering Command & Conquer  series is getting a new entry in the form of a free to play sequel of sorts to one of the best games the series has to offer – C&C Generals. Judging by the video, the team plans to lift all of the best elements of that particular title while staying true to the franchise’s roots, but EA’s track record for bringing back revered franchises is not exactly stellar.

US Requires the Removal of 3D Gun Instructions

Posted: 12 May 2013 01:48 PM PDT

3D Gun

Defense Distributed is a non-profit organization out of Texas that made headlines recently for posting the first video on Youtube of a live firing 3D printed gun. The gun did include a metal firing pin and another metal piece in order to comply with the Undetectable Firearms Act, but all the parts were made from a 3D printer. The government didn't have a problem with the video. What it did have a problem with were the instructions posted on organizations website explaining how someone with a 3D printer could make a 3D printed handgun of their own.

Flying Cars Coming Soon?

Synergy

John McGinnis has spent more than two decades teaching himself aeronautical engineering and thinks he has the answer to the flying cars dilemma. After reading a NASA research paper that challenged the traditional equation for aerodynamic drag, McGinnis believed he finally found the answer for making a flying vehicle that's cheap, safe, efficient, quiet, and can comfortably seat a family of four.
