| New Capacitive Touchscreen Works With Gloved Hands Posted: 25 Oct 2011 09:24 AM PDT A new touchscreen has been developed by SMK Corp that will allow users to navigate on the touchscreen even while their hands are gloved. SMK overcame the problem not by modifying how a capacitive touchscreen works, but by adding a secondary detection solution to enable users to use gloved hands. The new screen detection system has been developed by SMK using a new chip that supports high-sensitivity detection and improved detection sensitivity. It does this by employing a sensor panel structure that has a high resistance to noise to prevent malfunctions caused by noise. Enabling it to detect a gloved hand through 1.5mm thick screen resin. | Netflix Loses 800,000 Customers In Last Quarter Posted: 25 Oct 2011 07:57 AM PDT When Netflix launches in the UK And Ireland soon it will be hoping to make up a few of the customer subscriptions it has reported losing in the last quarter, which is estimated at around 800,000 customers. The loses are due to a few bad moves by Netflix over the past few months when it first decided to increase its prices and then split its DVD disk lending service and in streaming service into two separate companies annoying it exiting customer base. After which it then back tracked and cancelled the creation of the new company Qwikster set to take on its DVD rental business. | Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Lands On T-Mobile November 2nd Posted: 25 Oct 2011 07:27 AM PDT T-Mobile recently announced that it would be launching two new tablets Android tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the T-Mobile SpringBoard, and they have now announced the launch dates. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will land on T-Mobile in the US on the 2nd of November and the T-Mobile Springboard will be available from the 7th of November, although they haven’t announced any pricing details as yet.

The BBX trademark is owned by BASIS International, who announced last week that they were taking legal advice on what to do about RIM’s new BBX name for their platform.

We have already seen some leaked press shots and a teaser video of the new Nokia 800, as well as an actual photo of the Nokia 800 earlier today, and now it would appear that the first Nokia Windows Phone will be called the Nokia Lumia 800.

While riding the little robot is capapble of reaching speeds of up to 6 mph and rides in a similar way to that of a human. | IRIS 9000 Turns Your IPhone 4S Into Hal 9000 (Video) Posted: 25 Oct 2011 05:30 AM PDT It looks like we may have our first accessory for the iPhone 4S, which is designed to work with Apple’s new voice activated virtual assistant, Siri, called the IRIS 9000, and as you can see from the photo below the IRIS 9000 has a striking resemblance to Hal 9000. The IRIS 9000 is a dock for your iPhone 4S and it comes with a micro remote that will let you activate Siri by pressing a button, there is also a built in microphone which can pick up your voice commands, have a look at the video of it in action below.

The amazing new full HD glasses-free 3D display has been developed by NICT, in collaboration with JVC Kenwood and is a great example of how display technology is being pushed to its limits. The 200 inch screen weighs in at 500kg and consists of a condenser lens which focuses the light creating a sharp image, and a special diffuser film which lowers the horizontal diffusion angle, creating a smooth transition between the different viewing angles. | LG DoublePlay Lands On T-Mobile 2nd November Posted: 25 Oct 2011 04:23 AM PDT T-Mobile and LG recently announced their latest Android smartphone, the LG DoublePlay, and now it looks like it should be available from T-Mobile in the US from the 2nd of November. The LG DoublePlay comes with dual displays, with a main 3.5 inch multi-touch touchscreen display and a smaller 2 inch secondary display, which is located in the middle of the slide out QWERTY keyboard.

| Worlds First Flying Ball Drone Unveiled By Japan’s Ministry of Defence (video) Posted: 25 Oct 2011 03:47 AM PDT The Research Department at Japan’s Ministry of Defence has this week unveiled their new creation which is apparently the the world’s first spherical flying machine, and immediately reminded me of the flying ball drone from Star Wars. The flying ball drone has been designed to hover like a helicopter, and take-off and land vertically from any terrain. | Droid 2 Global And Droid Pro Get Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Posted: 25 Oct 2011 03:45 AM PDT Motorola has started rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to a couple of devices, which include the Motorola Droid 2 Global and the Motorola Droid Pro, and the update has been released as an OTA update. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update brings a range of new features to both devices, including a number of bug fixes, and if you haven’t got it yet, you can get it manually by heading to your settings menu.

Later this week we will see Nokia’s first Windows Phone device, one of which is rumored to share a similar design to the Nokia N9, and now Nokia has released a video showing how the Nokia N9 is made.

| Motorola Xoom 2 Tablet Appears At The FCC? Posted: 25 Oct 2011 03:19 AM PDT We saw some leaked photos of some new Motorola tablets a while back, which were rumored to be of the new Motorola Xoom 2 Android tablet and another device, and now a mystery Motorola tablet has appeared at the FCC. The tablet that has appeared at the FCC doesn’t have any name, although we do get some details on the specifications, which are different to Motorola’s existing Xoom tablet.

The Bao Research Group led by Zhenan Bao has demonstrated the new film/skin which is created by spraying the carbon nanotubes in liquid suspension onto a thin layer of silicon. This new nanotube-infused artificial skin can register pressure ranging from a firm pinch between your thumb and forefinger to twice the pressure exerted by an elephant standing on one foot. | Amazon Kindle Fire To Be This Years Most Popular Android Tablet? Posted: 25 Oct 2011 01:43 AM PDT Amazon’s first tablet will go on sale next month, and recent reports have suggested that Amazon’s have been selling around 50,000 of the tablet per day to pre-order customers, which could mean that Amazon would end up selling around 5 million Kindle Fire tablets by the end of the year. We recently heard from Google’s Andy Rubin, that there were around 6 million Android tablets out there, this includes all manufacturers, with tablets running both Android Honeycomb and also Android Gingerbread.

| Motorola Xoom, RAZR, Bionic To Get Android Ice Cream Sandwich Update Posted: 25 Oct 2011 12:46 AM PDT We heard recently that Motorola would be releasing the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola Xoom, and now Motorola has confirmed that Ice Cream Sandwich is headed to the Xoom, as well as some other of their devices. According to Motorola, the Droid RAZR, and the Droid Bionic will get the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update, six weeks after Google releases the software, and they have also said that they will confirm other devices shortly which will also be getting the update.

The HTC Radar 4G will be available for $99.99 after a $50 mail in rebate when you sign up to a new two year contract with T-Mobile, and it comes with Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.

| Android Overtakes Apple In Mobile App Downloads Posted: 25 Oct 2011 12:10 AM PDT According to a recent report by ABI Research, Android has overtaken Apple in mobile app downloads, in Q2 of 2011, with Android taking a 44 percent share on the mobile app download market compared to Apple’s 31 percent share. What is interesting from the report that whilst Android is ahead of Apple in the total number of download, the actual downloads per user at a rate of two to one.

The Nest is the work of Nest Labs and Tony Fadell, who was the former chief architect at Apple, and whilst at Apple he lead the development of the iPod and the iPhone, he left Apple a couple of years ago to start up Nest Labs.
