| Can Windows Phone Save Nokia’s Smartphone Business? Posted: 20 Oct 2011 06:58 AM PDT Nokia has released its latest quarterly results, and whilst the company posted a third quarter net loss of 68 million Euros, the loss was much lower than expected with Nokia increasing sales of lower priced handsets up 8 percent to almost 90 million units. Next week, on October the 25th Nokia World will take place in London, and we will finally get to see our first Nokia Windows Phone devices, since Nokia and Microsoft announced their new partnership earlier in the year.

| Asus Padfone To Launch In Early 2012 Posted: 20 Oct 2011 06:13 AM PDT Some of our readers will remember the Asus Padfone that was announced back in May, which is basically a smartphone and a tablet that can be docked together to form a single device, and it is made up with a 10 inch tablet and a 4 inch smartphone. The smartphone part of the Padfone houses all the powerful components, and the tablet part is basically a dock for the device with a larger display, it looks pretty cool, from what we have seen so far.

| Did Samsung Sell More Smartphones Than Apple? Posted: 20 Oct 2011 06:03 AM PDT Yesterday Apple announced their latest quarter earnings, and during the earnings call Apple also announced that they had sold 17.7 million iPhone’s for that quarter, and now according to a recent report by the WSJ, Samsung may have sold more smartphones than Apple for the same period. According to the WSJ report, Samsung sold around 20 million smartphones for the same period, compared to Apple’s 17.7 million, although this number has yet to be confirmed by Samsung.

| Google+ Passes 3.4 Billion Image Uploads In Just 100 Days Posted: 20 Oct 2011 05:48 AM PDT As well is announcing the arrival of applications to its Google+ social network together with the much requested use of pseudonyms. Google has also revealed today that it has received more than 3.4 billion image uploads to its Google+ site in just 100 days. Which equates to around 34 million images being uploaded to Google’s new social networking platform every day. In comparison Facebook has around 100 billion photos in total and has around 6 billion photos uploaded every month, so Google still has some way to go before to catch up.

| Google Street View Travels By Train Posted: 20 Oct 2011 05:30 AM PDT Google’s Street view maps are a great way to see locations, but they only work with locations that Google’s Street View cars and bicycles are able to go to, although Google has gone off road in some locations before, now it would appear that Google may have some bigger plans for Street View. Google has decided to hitch one of their Street View cameras to a train in Switzerland and the camera has been used to photograph parts of the Albula / Bernina railway in Switzerland.

| Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Lands In the UK For £389 Posted: 20 Oct 2011 04:48 AM PDT The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, which was announced a while back was due to go on sale in the UK in August, and now it looks like it is finally available in the UK and prices start at £389, which seems quite high considering that the Galaxy tab 10.1 sells for £399. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is now available from UK retailer HMV, with the 16GB WiFi model retailing for £389 and the 32GB WiFi model retailing for £469.99.

Well now Sony Ericsson has confirmed via Facebook that all of their new Android smartphones that were released in 2011 will be getting an update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012.

The new project is work which has been carried out by the Sensors and Devices group from Microsoft Research Cambridge, and has been designed to allow you to interact with 3D objects using your bare hands. The fantastic HoloDesk technology uses an interactive system combining an optical see through display and Microsoft’s Kinect camera to create the illusion that users are directly interacting with 3D graphics. | Samsung Galaxy Note UK Price Confirmed, £495 Plus taxes, Coming November 1st Posted: 20 Oct 2011 03:31 AM PDT We recently heard that the Samsung Galaxy Note would be hitting the UK in November and that it would retail for £559 plus taxes, now it would appear that Samsung has reduced the price of the device before launch and it will now retail for £495 plus taxes. The Samsung Galaxy Note will go on sale in the UK on the first of November, and the above price is for the SIM free version, no doubt some of the mobile carriers will be offering it at a lower cost when you sign up to a new contract with them.

| Kogan Announces Budget 8 And 10 Inch Android Tablets Posted: 20 Oct 2011 03:21 AM PDT Kogan has announced two new Android tablets here in the UK, the Kogan Agora 8 and the Kogan Agora 10, both tablets are designed to be budget friendly and they come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Kogan Agora 8 features an 8 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x600 pixels, processing is provided by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, there is also 512MB of RAM and 4GB of built in storage, plus a micro SD card slot which can take up to 32GB cards, plus HDMI out and mini USB.

| Android Now Running On 6 Million Tablets Worldwide Posted: 20 Oct 2011 03:04 AM PDT Many people have been wondering just how many Android Tablets are out there, and now we have some actual figures from Google’s Andy Rubin, who recently announced that there are more than 6 million Android tablets out there. Not quite anywhere near the numbers of Apple iPads that, and the 6 million included Android tablets running Froyo and Gingerbread, which were released by manufacturers as well as Honeycomb tablets.

| Samsung Galaxy Nexus Headed To Seven US Carriers? Posted: 20 Oct 2011 02:37 AM PDT Samsung and Google announced their first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone the other day, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and it was expected to be exclusive to Verizon Wireless in the US only but now it looks like it may be available with a few more carriers, after an initial exclusivity period with Verizon. Samsung has now posted a sign up page for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and also listed on the page is a choice of carrier preference, which lists a total of seven US carriers.

| Apple Turns On iTunes Match, Launch Imminent? Posted: 20 Oct 2011 02:26 AM PDT When Apple announced iOS 5 and iCloud earlier in the year they also announced a new music streaming service which is called iTunes Match, and it will basically let you stream music that you already own from the cloud direct to your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. When Apple released iOS 5 earlier in the month, we were told that iTunes Match would launch in November, and now it would appear that iTunes Match may be getting ready to launch.

| iPhone 4S Parts Cost Estimated At $188 Posted: 20 Oct 2011 01:20 AM PDT Apple’s iPhone 4S went on sale last week, and Apple announced that they had sold over four million iPhone 4S units in the first three days, and now details have been revealed on how much the iPhone 4S costs to manufacturer, which would mean that Apple are making a healthy profit for each iPhone 4S sold. According to Andrew Rassweiler, of IHS iSupply, who performed a teardown on the iPhone 4S, the 16GB model costs Apple around $188 to manufacture, the 32GB around $207 and the 64GB model around $245.

| Apple Pays Tribute To Steve Jobs Posted: 20 Oct 2011 12:57 AM PDT Yesterday, Apple held a special memorial service for Steve Jobs at Apple’s corporate campus in Cupertino, California, and thousands of Apple employees at the Apple campus and also Apple’s retail stores joined Apple’s CEO Tim Cook to pay tribute to Steve Jobs. Apple closed its retail stores for a few hours, so that its employees could watch a live stream of the memorial service and Apple has released the following photo, which shows Apple’s CEO and the companies employees.

| Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Released To Nearly Everyone Posted: 20 Oct 2011 12:42 AM PDT Microsoft has announced that it will be making the latest version of Windows Phone, Windows Phone 7.5 available to ‘nearly everyone’, and update notifications should start to roll out to Windows Phone handsets. Microsoft has said they are also still working with specific mobile carriers like Orange in Europe to resolve a few technical issues, and once those issues are resolved the updates should start rolling out.

| Windows Phone To Get NFC Next Year Posted: 19 Oct 2011 11:35 PM PDT We recently heard that Windows Phone would be getting dual core processors next year and also support for LTE, and now Microsoft’s Andy Lees has shared some more information about Microsoft’s plans for Windows Phone in 2012. Speaking at the Asia D conference, Andy Lees has confirmed that Microsoft will also be bringing NFC (near field communications), to future Windows Phone devices in 2012.
