Apple Files Patent For In App Purchases

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 12:41 AM PDT

Some of our readers will remember the company called Lodsys, who is suing a wide range of developers for ‘in app purchases’ on both Apple’s iOS platform and Google’s Android platform, as the company holds a number of patents relating to in app purchases.

Apple already has an agreement in place with Lodsys to use the patents, but the reason Lodsys is suing the individual developers is that the company claims this agreement doesn’t cover them.

Will Apple’s iMessage Hurt Mobile Carriers?

Posted: 10 Oct 2011 12:31 AM PDT

On Wednesday the 12th of October Apple will launch the latest version of its mobile OS, iOS 5, and one of the major new features in iOS 5 is iMessage, which is basically a cost free replacement for text messages.

There are already a number of different mobile apps that let you communicate with your friends without having to pay a fee like you do for a text message with your mobile carrier, and we suspect Apple’s iMessage is going to be very popular and could end up replacing text messages on the iPhone.

Romo Smartphone Robot is Cute and Cool (Video)

Posted: 09 Oct 2011 11:50 PM PDT

Kickstarter is a great place to run across some very interesting projects that might actually make it to production. It’s also a great place for people with good ideas to raise the money they need to build their device and sell them to the public. One of the coolest projects I have seen in a long time on Kickstarter is the cute little Romo smartphone robot.

Get Your Gangsta on with the Pump Action Slingshot

Posted: 09 Oct 2011 11:35 PM PDT

I have talked about the crazy slingshots that Joerg Sprave makes on a few occasions. The last time I mentioned him was when he invented the slingshot that flings iPhones. Joerg is back with a new slingshot that has a new and very cool design. This is probably the only one of the slingshots Joerg has ever made that I would actually shoot.

Fear The Tablet Claw, Weapon Of Doom (Video)

Posted: 09 Oct 2011 11:01 PM PDT

What? Relax. The Tablet Claw is totally totally harmless. Trust us.

According to its creators, the Tablet Claw came about after repeated observations of people wielding tablets. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that a slim tablet isn’t the most ergonomic of devices. Sure it’s great for a lot of things, but handling? So enter the Tablet Claw. Yeah, the name is a bit too ominous for comfort.

If you ever had your hair done someplace, this new ‘washing robot’ isn’t an exotic surprise. That’s the problem with robotics these days. The technology is available for programming complex tasks, but the machines that perform them look like appliances. Hasn’t Star Wars taught humankind anything?
