Pipeline, Valve’s Newest Experiment

Posted: 14 Jul 2013 11:03 AM PDT

While Valve's reputation as a gaming developer may be arguably overrated (I think it is), the company is undeniably an innovative leader when it comes to gaming marketing, management, and pushing the gaming community's social environment into the future. It's continued to prove its genius in the field with the growth and management of Steam, and is now looking to help further the education of up-and-coming teenage developers through Pipeline.

Pipeline is a website entirely created and run by teenage interns at value for the sole purpose of helping guide prospective game developers through the steps they need to fulfill their dreams. It seeks to answer intern inquiries and questions pertaining to career development paths within the gaming industry.

LoL Deemed a Pro Sport

Posted: 14 Jul 2013 10:59 AM PDT

Earlier this week, on July 11th, Riot, an e-sports team based in the U.S., told GameSpot that the company had successfully convinced U.S. Immigration to recognize the popular MOBA, multiplayer online battle arena, game League of Legends as a professional sport. The change makes it easier for players to obtain visas in order to play in the United States, allowing e-sports teams to pick-up international talent.

Earlier this year, Canadian LoL, which is short for League of Legends, player Danny Le was unable to play due to work permit issues. He'll become the first player to benefit from this proclamation, but certainly won't be the last.

And Hulu Goes To…

Posted: 14 Jul 2013 10:57 AM PDT

Nobody! Once again Fox and Disney have made a huge show claiming their willingness to sell Hulu only to deny all standing offers, two of which were from Yahoo and DirecTV. Instead of selling the company, all of Hulu's partners will be collectively sinking $750 million into the company in order to help grow its subscription base by offering more content.

No official statement regarding why the decision to deny all the bids was made. Last time Hulu's owners said that the offers were too low to accept, but this time there was no official statement regarding why they decided to deny all the bids – although this habit may very well come back to bite Disney and Fox in the rear.

WhatsApp Updated for Windows Phone 8, Fixed Some Major Bugs

Posted: 13 Jul 2013 10:00 PM PDT

You must be living under a rock if you don't know what is WhatsApp. It's a cross platform messaging service that allows users to communicate with your friends and family via 3G or Wifi. Currently, the application is available on all major mobile platforms including Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry, and Nokia phones (running good old symbian).

WhatsApp for Windows Phone has received a lot of criticisms as it lacked development for this OS. The beta application was launched in April and since, it has been a pain for the Windows Phone users to use the application as it was full of bugs and errors. One of the major errors faced by users was related to the notifications. In order to receive notifications, WhatsApps users had to rely on a third party hack that affected battery life of the smartphones.
