Withings Pulse Finally Taking Pre-Orders – $99.95 Posted: 23 Jun 2013 06:58 AM PDT The recent fitness craze that's sweeping the U.S. has led to the development of a lot of nifty gadgets and apps – the most obvious example being fitness trackers. The Withings Pulse is the latest to appear on the scene. It was put on display back during CES as the Withings Smart Activity Tracker. Back then the company said it would ship in March, but they're just now starting to take pre-orders. The only noticeable difference is the name. Otherwise it's the same device showcased during CES. Posted: 23 Jun 2013 06:55 AM PDT The Paris Air Show was conducted during the last week, putting the latest and greatest aviation technology on show for all to see. Among many of the surprising announcements and demonstrations were experimental electric motors for planes. We all know about the auto industry's attempt at mainstreaming electric motors in order to save energy, but do we really want electric motors in our planes? The ones on display had nothing to do with actually flying the plane. They consisted of two 50 kVA motors between the plane's wheels that allow it to land and take off without using its main engines. Posted: 23 Jun 2013 06:52 AM PDT iPhones are notoriously expensive when they first launch, especially seeing as how a new model seems to launch every year nowadays. However, once the newer model comes out, older models of the iPhone are typically rather inexpensive. Most people waiting for a price drop on the iPhone 5 would normally have to wait for the 5s, but Walmart is hoping to help people stay up-to-date while making plenty of money in the process. Walmart recently cut the permanent prices for the iPhone 4s and 5 to $39 and $129 respectively. This is a major cut from their previous prices of $90 and $190. Keep in mind, these prices are for the 16GB models and require a contract with AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. Trying to buy the iPhone without a contract, or trying to buy one of the models with more storage, will cost you quite a bit more. Posted: 23 Jun 2013 06:50 AM PDT During the last World Cup, in 2010, FIFA televised 25 of the 64 matches in 3D on ESPN 3D. However, times have changed in just over three years. ESPN 3D is likely to be closed down before the 2014 World Cup, and anyone's chance to watch games in 3D might go right along with it. While there are currently a number of broadcasters interested in showing the games in 3D, FIFA is currently reviewing the cost of such an endeavor and might decide to simply focus on HD instead. At the moment, 4K Ultra HD is being tested during the Confederation Cup – which is kind of like an unofficial precursor to the World Cup. Sony, who was a major proponent for 3D in the past, is now pushing 4K instead. FCC to Review Google’s Latest Meal Posted: 23 Jun 2013 06:47 AM PDT Google recently acquired Waze for $1.03 billion. Waze, in case you haven't heard of it before, was a direct mapping competitor of Google Maps. Waze's revenue was extremely low, and the acquisition was overlooked at first, but it may trigger an antitrust investigation by the FCC. Antitrust laws are in place to keep a company from obtaining and maintaining a monopoly in any given industry. Many believe the deal between Waze and Google is a preemptive strike on Google's part to prevent Waze, who uses crowdsourcing to add more to their maps, from edging in on Google Maps' industry.
