Tesla’s 90 Second Battery Swap Posted: 22 Jun 2013 03:19 AM PDT Tesla Motors showed off their battery pack-swapping process earlier this week to show how recharging an electric vehicle could take less time than filling a gas tank. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla Motors, put the process to the test against what he claimed was the fastest pump in LA. Battery-swapping took only 90 seconds, while refueling took more than 150 seconds. Tesla Model S owners will be able to switch batteries without ever leaving their cars for what Musk said would cost the same as a tank of gas. Tesla won't require you to pay for the swap right away either. You can choose to take the old battery with you or not, and then Tesla will charge you the difference later. Posted: 22 Jun 2013 03:16 AM PDT Computer chipmaking company AMD has been hurting recently, but it's about to dig itself out of poverty and well into riches. Regardless of who ends up on top during this next generation of console gaming, AMD is going to make out like a bandit. All three systems, Xbox One, PS4, and even Wii U, make use of AMD's hardware. The revival could bring about a new age of PC gaming in addition to the new age of console gaming. Consoles are becoming more and more like computers. With the switch from PowerPC to AMD and x86 architecture, consoles are more like computers than ever before. This means that creating games for consoles and PCs is easier than ever before too. Remember how PC iterations of games took a bit longer to come out during this generation? That's likely going to become a thing of the past now that both make use of similar systems. Posted: 22 Jun 2013 03:13 AM PDT Everyone staying in the technological "know" has probably at least heard of Vine by now. It's a little app that allows you to easily take 6 second videos and share them with people via Twitter. That app has started gaining a lot of popularity, with the biggest user complaint being that 6 seconds wasn't enough time. Almost in response to Vine's growing popularity, Instagram announces its own video creation capabilities. Instagram's video creation and posting option is just as easy to operate in a flash, like Vine, but it offers a lot more than Vine. It allows up to 15 second videos, and offers minor editorial options such as stabilization and video filters – allowing for better produced videos to be constructed on the fly. Kickstarter Bans Seduction Guides Posted: 22 Jun 2013 03:10 AM PDT Kickstarter is a great tool for anyone looking to fund just about any project imaginable, but there are decency rules to follow. One user, who posted a project for a "guide to getting awesome with woman", seems to have crossed the decency line. The project, which shattered its $2000 goal by more than 500%, was reported as indecent by comedian Casey Malone, who called it a "rape manual". In many of the excerpts posted on Kickstarter – which have since been deleted – the author tells the reader to ignore what women want altogether and just do what they want without consent. The writer blatantly tells to reader to make nonconsensual sexual advances onto women that involve genital exposure. Jay-Z’s Samsung Deal won’t appear on the Billboard Posted: 22 Jun 2013 03:08 AM PDT In case you were unaware, rapper Jay-Z made a deal with Samsung to give away a copy of his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail ahead of the record's official release date to the first million people who download the free app onto a Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, or Galaxy S4. While Jay-Z did get paid by Samsung as if he'd sold a million copies of his new album, those sales will not count towards securing his place on the Billboard 200 charts. Representatives for Jay-Z argued that the million copies bought by Samsung should indeed count towards his place on the charts, but the Billboard maintains that nothing was actually purchased by the end consumers. Sales made to companies who purchase the album with intent to sell don't count towards the Billboard charts until someone buys the album from the resale company.
