Surface Pro Price Cut

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 09:17 AM PDT

The Surface Pro, Microsoft's premier tablet device that's the reason why Windows 8 exists, is receiving a price cut of $100 to both its 64GB and 128GB models. This is shortly after the price of the Surface RT was cut by 30% after horrible sale outcomes that cost the company $900 million last quarter.

The price cut took effect this weekend and seems to be here to stay, although no official word has been made to say for certain that the cut is permanent. For now, you can be sure to get the Surface Pro for $100 off until August 29th.

Toilet Bluetooth Security Alert!

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 09:14 AM PDT

In my opinion, some things don't need to be upgraded, like toilets. Apparently Inax doesn't agree. They've created Satis, a new toilet currently only found in Japan that is accessible via an Android app. With the app you can control all of the toilet's functions, including jets of water and hot air that come from below. Unfortunately, so can everyone else.

All the toilets are equipped with the same "0000" Bluetooth pin, making it possible for anyone with the My Satis App in range of the toilet able to control it no matter who's using the toilet. The implications should be pretty obvious.

New Kickstarter Ban

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 09:11 AM PDT

It wasn't too long ago that Kickstarter banned an allegedly misogynistic book from receiving further help than it already had, but it's cracking the ban whip once again. Granted, it's not banning a project, but rather the rewards that projects can offer.

‘Sherlock’ Teaser!

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 09:09 AM PDT

If you haven't seen the last two seasons of BBC One's Sherlock, go watch it now! The show is absolutely phenomenal and coming back for season next year. That may be quite a ways away, but when you consider each episode is as long as a full-length feature film worthy of theatrical release, it's understandable.

Newsweek Sold to Business News Site

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 09:06 AM PDT

Last year we reported about how Newsweek, a popular magazine that had seen print publication for 80 years, was transitioning into a digital-only medium starting on December 31st, 2012. Less than a year after its transition, Newsweek is being sold to International Business Times.

The sale doesn't come as much of a surprise since Newsweek's owner admitted in April that he regretted ever buying the magazine. Newsweek is part of a joint venture with The Daily Beast but will be sold separately. The International Business Times will operate the magazine as a subsidiary and won't change anything right away.

Further details of the sale have yet to be released.

Facebook’s Bug Bounty Numbers

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 07:06 AM PDT

Facebook wants people to know that it's taking their security seriously, so it released the financial statistics for its Bug Bounty program. The program pays people who report security bugs depending on the severity and complexity of the bug. In the last two years, Facebook has paid over a million dollars to 329 bug bounty hunters.

The youngest of the group is reportedly 13-years-old, and payouts range from $500 – $100,000+. Some bounty hunters have even been paid multiple times. However, despite Facebook's efforts, more than six million accounts were exposed in June alone.

Netzero’s Deal with Sprint and Verizon

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 07:04 AM PDT

Netzero is a budget-friendly company that offers mobile broadband internet to people who can't, or don't want to, afford the high end costs that other providers charge. However, as it stands, the phrase "You get what you pay for" remains true; Netzero has been using an aged system from Clearwire that offers terrible connectivity.

Netzero's looking to upgrade change its service though. It's made a five year deal with Sprint for LTE and EV-DO, and also made a three year deal with Verizon EV-DO just in case things don't work out with Sprint.

Rumor: Galaxy S4 Mini Heading to Verizon

Posted: 04 Aug 2013 03:17 AM PDT

Samsung launched the miniature version of their flagship smarphone last month – Galaxy S4 Mini. The device was launched as an international device meaning that no carrier was offering the device at a subsidized rate in the US. However, it appears that the Big Red — Verizon — might offer it to it’s customers in the near future. A number of photos have leaked on the internet with the model number SCH-I435, showing the device with a Verizon logo on it. The carrier might have kept it on hold in order to wait for the launch of its Droid lineup and Moto X.

If you remember correctly, International Trade Commission imposed a ban on import if certain Apple products including iPhone 4 and iPad 2 3G, in June. The ban was imposed after the trade commission found some Apple products infringing Samsung patents. United States President Barrack Obama and his administration vetoed ITC's ban on the import and sale of specific Apple products. The ban was expected to take effect from August 5 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2 3G and the Original iPad 3G.
