New iPhone Incoming Sept. 10th Posted: 11 Aug 2013 08:02 AM PDT The date of the next major iPhone event has been set. On September 10th Apple will be unveiling what's most likely the iPhone 5S and a release version of the iOS 7. Of course it's all just speculations and rumors at this point. Apple could unveil something brand new or nothing at all, but the chances of either happening is slim-to-none if the recent past is any indication. Posted: 11 Aug 2013 07:58 AM PDT For those who may not know, Twitch is the streaming site for live streaming of everything gaming and geek related. Its iOS app recently received an update that nearly tripled the number of accessible live channels from 200 to 750 in order to deal with the massive influx of new content its seen due to its increasing popularity within the gaming community. The app also saw an overhaul of its chat system, which makes chatting much smoother and simpler than before, and Dota 2 players can link their steam account to receive in-game item drops as a reward for watching certain streams. Twitch hasn't said whether or not it will add this update for Android and other platforms, but it does plan to at least improve channel capacities across the board eventually. Defense Mobile to Support the Troops Posted: 11 Aug 2013 07:56 AM PDT Defense Mobile is a new mobile communication company that's planning to offer cellular communication services exclusively to active-duty forces, reserves and veterans at a reduced rate. It's easy to think that you'll get what you pay for, but Defense Mobile isn't skimping on its service to meet costs. The company just announced that it's made a deal with Sprint CDMA and LTE. By sometime in 2014 the company hopes to start offering military members with plans ranging from $20 to $60 while providing top-of-the-line coverage. It'll also offer the latest and greatest phones on the market, including the iPhone 5, Galaxy S 4, and HTC One. Posted: 11 Aug 2013 07:51 AM PDT Space Fence, the automated radar system that monitors all space debris the size of a basketball within 24,000 km from Earth's surface, is being shutdown effective September 1st due to budget deficits. The Air Force Space Surveillance Network, who uses Space Fence for 40% of its observations, tried to save the program in July, calling it a "critical defense system", but failed to do so. Don't worry though; there are plans to build a more advanced Space Fence. All they need is the money to do so. Although at this point, I think the Air Force Space Surveillance Network would have an easier time funding the project through Kickstarter than through the government. GameStop Xbox One Upgrade Promo Posted: 11 Aug 2013 07:48 AM PDT There's always a problem when buying games during the holiday season of a new console year. Do you buy the new system and the new version of the game, or do you buy the old system version of the game and wait to buy the new system. It's never been more of a conundrum than this year, but GameStop says it has you covered. Since the Xbox One will not be backwards compatible with the Xbox 360, GameStop has decided to make gamers a deal. If they buy the Xbox 360 version of a game, but later decide to get an Xbox One, you can switch the 360 version of the game for an Xbox One version for $10 or less. However, there are a couple catches. You have to purchase the game within 30 days of its launch and the offer is only good until the end of the year. Mockups of Upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C Spotted Posted: 10 Aug 2013 02:34 PM PDT In the past, we have seen the upcoming iPhone 5C in a number of photos. Today, a Vietnamese site, Tinhte posted what they claim are mock-ups of the upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C aka low cost iPhone. In case you don't know, Tinhte has a strong record of getting their hands on the pre-release Apple products, so we have all the right reasons to believe that the prototypes they showed should be close to what Apple is planning to launch next month. The folks at Tinhte received the prototype devices from a local accessory supplier PhukienGiare, who also supplied them with the pre-release mockups of the upcoming iPad Mini.
