Future Amazon tablets to be powered by MediaTek? Posted: 12 Aug 2013 12:22 AM PDT According to a published report in China, Amazon has signed a deal with MediaTek to supply chips for the Amazon Kindle Fire tablets. The report says that Amazon will use the MT8135 quad-core chipset which features ARM's big.LITTLE design. Avoid Your Neighbors with iDoorCam Posted: 11 Aug 2013 10:30 PM PDT When I first saw the source article for iDoorCam, I wanted nothing more than to ridicule it for the lazy name and cheesy premise. After watching the video below, I can't deny I'm intrigued. iDoorCam is a simple device with a camera and a button that pretty much takes the place of your doorbell. When the button is pressed, an alert is sent to your phone, which is acceptable by anyone set up to receive iDoorCam alerts from your device. After accepting, the device connects to your phone via the internet and shows you a live feed of your door front via a small web camera embedded in the device. You can then talk to them through the device's speakers, or ignore the people at your door altogether. Electing Officials via Twitter? Posted: 11 Aug 2013 10:23 PM PDT Researchers at Indiana University have found a startling correlation between Twitter and political votes. Using a sample of over 500 million tweets that took place during August 2010's House of Representatives elections, researchers found that the percentage of votes for political candidates correlated directly to the percentage of tweets that talked about the candidates. The study found that whether or not the post was positive or negative didn't make a difference. The numbers lined up simply by counting how many times each candidate was mentioned, regardless of what was said. The chief digital officer of NBC News said she plans to use the app to cover mass events like the Cairo protests or the Boston bombings. Apparently no app will be required. People will contact Stringwire via Twitter saying they're witnessing a particular news event and receive a link that will prompt the user to start recording via their cell phone. All videos will before being reported on to ensure the video is appropriate and that the tweeter was telling the truth.
