BLU Studio 5.5 is $179 Off-Contract Posted: 05 Oct 2013 06:37 AM PDT The post BLU Studio 5.5 is $179 Off-Contract appeared first on Geeky Gadgets. Smartphones are expensive. Everyone can't afford the Galaxy Note or other big-screen smartphones that come with a ton of fixtures, especially without a contact. BLU is trying to get more phones out to the masses though. Their new Studio 5.5 smartphone only costs $179 without a contract. The phone itself isn't very impressive, but the non-contract price point is. The Studio 5.5 sports 854 x 480 resolution, 4GB of expandable storage, and a quad-core MediaTek chip. It may not sound like much, but for $179 off-contract that's a steal. Posted: 05 Oct 2013 06:34 AM PDT The post Comcast's X1 Outage appeared first on Geeky Gadgets. Comcast had a major issue last night around midnight, when a large number of its new X1 cable boxes suddenly went out for no apparent reason. Users were reporting black screens, and by 3AM only a few were reporting the return of their service. The reports were spotty since the box isn't available everywhere yet and because a lot of people are questioning whether or not a cloud-enabled TV and DVR box is a good idea. Requiring an internet protocol to run makes large outages more of a possibility. New Kinect Not Focused on Targeted Marketing Posted: 05 Oct 2013 06:31 AM PDT The post New Kinect Not Focused on Targeted Marketing appeared first on Geeky Gadgets. There have been a lot of concerns about the Xbox One's Kinect since it was announced that every system comes with one and just how important it is for the console. Between the "always-on" fiasco and whatnot, some people have been concerned about how the Xbox One is going to be used marketing-wise. Is it going to take a look in my house and use my personal information for targeted marking purposes? The simple answer is no. Microsoft's Director of Product Planning came out and literally said, "Nobody is working on that." He went on to explain that Microsoft's R&D teams are more focused on things like facial recognition than they are targeted marketing information collection. BlackBerry Making Backup Sale Plans Posted: 05 Oct 2013 06:28 AM PDT The post BlackBerry Making Backup Sale Plans appeared first on Geeky Gadgets. It's just smart to always have a plan B in case plan A falls through, and that's exactly what BlackBerry is doing right now. You've probably heard about its impending $4.7 billion dollar sale to Fairfax Financial, but right now BlackBerry is rumored to be taking sale meetings in offers from Google, Samsung, Cisco and others just in case their deal with Fairfax falls through. Most of the companies bidding are interested in BlackBerry's servers and patents. They probably won't renew the company's horrid smartphone business, but you never know what the future may hold.
